What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

I'm not overwhelmed by the rules, it's the amount of background material that I feel compelled to read, that I THINK is necessary to run the game...when it isn't necessary at all. I have a small town detailed out from many years ago, and I'm going to begin there and see where the game takes the players...or where the players take the game. ;)

Good plan Gary! The players take the game, yes or where the DM takes the players ;)

There's a lot of Traveller material for the 3rd Imperium setting. That's why I don't use it; way too much to read up on and there are always players who know more than me and foil my diabolical...err...

I used to have a small village (roughly based on Hommlet) that I ran games in, and a rough idea of what was "out there". Used the same village for ten years, with eleven different game systems, and later groups were impacted by what earlier groups had done.

My DM style is to set the world(s) in motion, make bad things happen, and then give the players the chance to be heroic. How they do it is up to them, and I try to let them get creative.

Strongly agree that games work better in less detailed settings.

The nice thing about games here is that a GM has time to dress the set between scenes when the players exit stage left instead of right.

I find if you can create a campaign where character actions count, not just in combat encounters but in the political relations, the local world building, the influences they can exert; then players become more immersed in the game and even upon character death, are quick to roll up another role to play.

I think there is nothing worse than a DM scripting 10,000 word historical backgrounds covering gods, kings, countries, locations but the players only venture into a local dungeon with their actions rarely impacting upon anything or anyone beyond the local tavern.

I came here from Reddit looking for some Traveller. Preferably Mongoose 2E but Classic and Mega are always welcome!

I want to run a weird-fairy-tale/swords&sorcery game here, in the land of Mag.

ffilz wrote: Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:36 pmOh, I didn't notice this... Too bad I have never read any of the source material. I have 4th and 5th editions of Stormbringer and over 40 years of RuneQuest experience which should count for something in running Stormbringer...

Well, on top of this, I am trying to roust up interest for Cold Iron Samurai Adventures and there's no way I'm going to try and run multiple play by post games.
...And you, too! Glad to see you are around, too, Frank! It's been a while, as well! :o Who's next? Havard? Eusebio? Mortepierre? :) :) :)

Trick is, Stormbringer is pretty easy rules-wise. If you manage to get your hands on one of the earlier (pre-4th editions), it's pretty much RQ, even though it comes with a few changes in detail. The later editions are more complex, and always seemed to me to be essentially what 2e Ravenloft and Planescape were trying to do: Games optimized for one-shots or very narrow-path/railroad scenarios aimed towards readers of especially the later novels in Moorcock's series. - Not saying this as a snide: Love it, actually. And the recent French fork edition of the "Mournblade", at least to me, is probably the best "big" RPG since the late 2000s.

What I see with MB and other incarnations of Stormbringer is the lore - it's based on an extremely long book series: Either, you have to dumb it down, in which case it essentially becomes RQ with weird magic, or you have to read up A LOT of stuff that probably won't end up being relevant to the game, at all. So, the "entrance fee" one has to pay as a DM to make such a game happen, not cheap.

May I ask what program you used for the map? Looks sweet. I've been playing around with Inkarnate for a while, and while fun, the results were not necessarily what I would have liked best.

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Actually, I did most of the colorization by using the context menu on the perilous-shores webpage.

Interested? Basic rules are linked from my sig. This would be a bit a sandbox, but I have a few ideas for threads you could follow through it.
