Re: The Bathhouse
The Dead Three Doors...
Seeing nothing of interest, Ambergris returns to his companions as Tommy sends his unseen servant to open the door at the end of the hall.
This chamber is empty but not bereft of decor. Carved into each of its three doors is a full-figure depiction of one of the Dead Three; Lesh recognizes the faces almost immediately.
East Door. The face of this door bears a carving of Bane, the lawful evil god of tyranny, who is depicted as a tall, armored man wearing a bucket helm. His right gauntlet is painted black and clutches a set of shackles.
North Door. This door bears a carving of Bhaal, the chaotic evil god of murder. He's depicted as a powerfully built, skull-headed man with long, curved blades where his hands should be. (This is the door you just opened to the room.)
South Door. This door bears a carving of Myrkul, the neutral evil Lord of Bones. He is portrayed as a cloaked figure whose face is hidden under a cowl. In his skeletal hands, he clutches a screaming human skull.
There is no western door; merely an opening in the wall...

Tommy nods and positions himself next to the doorframe as the unseen servant moves in to open the door and start exploring, onece the door is opened, the floating decoy (tommy starts calling it McCoy as the commands can sometimes be understood over the mental connection with his companions) moves in slowly while we see if there are any threats and start to stealthily move in

Ambergris
I asked before regarding Mina and the wino in the pool. Was Ambergris able to pull them out from the pool alive or finding them face down in the water, did they drown? If they did drown I would suspect it a result of poisoning of some kind and they were probably murdered, which would affect my actions and judgements in regard to exploring the cellars.
Anyway, we have come through the Bhaal portal. I would presume that the Myrkul and Bane doors also lead to other nearby businesses that act as a front to a wider cult. So I think the way to explore is westwards.
He shrugs, we are looking for information and clues rather than conflict. Each way is equally risky.

Hey man, I answered you on page 1 of this thread; here's what I said > Sorry man, in my haste to get a post out, I overlooked this. Ambergris is able to get the girl and the man out of the pool to keep them from drowning. The man is out like a light, the girl is somewhat cognizant, but dazed and confused.Spearmint wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:28 pm Ambergris

Cool?
Ambergris moves toward the western opening and holding his lantern, he sees a corridor running about 15 feet and then stairs leading down.
To the south door, Tommy commands his unseen servant to open the door...
Lying on the floor of this otherwise empty room are the pale bodies of three humans in filthy black robes, arranged in a triangular formation. A lit torch lies between them. A rough-hewn staircase to the left (you're right) leads down to another torchlit chamber.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay. All three of you are still in the octagonal room you first entered. Ambergris is peering down the open westward passage on the left (if you're looking at the map); Tommy and Lesh are looking through the southern door into the room.
Tommy takes in the scene
says to Lesh (Mentally) "there's something wrong here, the torch is still lit"
he looks to the staircase to the right and inspects the scene for any details (are the bodies tied? any fresh blood on the floor?)
Perception: [1d20+4]=17+4=21
in any case he sends the unseen servant ahead and keeps some cover still behind the door frame
he makes the unseen servant hold before reaching the bodies (makes the floating robe move its arms) and casts Mage Hand to pick up the torch
sorry, must have missed your note.
"Follow the torchlight I think." he suggests to where to explore next. He will help check over the bodies and frisk their cloak pockets. Specifically thinking they wear the some uniform or designated cultist garb. They might have identifying papers, rings and other paraphernalia associated with the death cults.
Are they actually dead? Not just sleeping? No blood from wounds pouring on the floor? Stabbed, poisoned or gassed?
Looking closely at the bodies, Tommy can tell they are breathing...not dead, and there is no blood.
Ambergris
Frisking a supposedly dead body, he is startled to realise they sleep.
I suspect this is no ordinary sleep. I don't think they have just succumbed to a 'sleep' spell or effect. Their positioning in a triangle is deliberately done, by choice. Theirs I suspect.
"While their bodies sleep, do their spirits wander?" he says. "Quickly bind them. Secure their hands and gag their mouths!" he suggests rather than just murdering them.
Re: The Bathhouse
Necromites!
Tommy's unseen servant leads the way and is about to pick up the torch in the middle of the bodies, when Ambergris heads into the room and straight toward one of the bodies. The sailor bends down to frisk one of the bodies, and as Tommy cries out a warning, the "dead" body rolls and rises up with a flail in hand!
Ambergris > roll for Surprise please!
Tommy is not surprised because of his Perception check; Lesh is in the back and can't really see what's going on.
The pink figure is Tommy's unseen servant. The orange fuzzy ball is the torch.
I have removed your follow up posts to my Notes section...we'll see what happens and I'll post accordingly.
sorry didn't mean to be a pain.
Surprise, pg189 in the handbook, is an opposed roll, Ambergris uses a passive perception test.
Ambergris Perception proficiency skill roll [1d20+2]=14+2=16
Figuring the sleeping figure will continue to sleep and his thoughts echoing his previous comment that though the bodies are there, their spirits might be elsewhere, he entered the room as Tommy's mage-hand picks up the torch.
Suddenly the trio move!
If they don't get the jump on him, he will move to his previously posted actions, which is to attack one with his spear.
He figures to frisk one of the bodies, and as Tommy cries out a warning > "They're not dead!" < and suddenly the trio of bodies begin to move!
By Bells Bald Balls! Tommy exclaims, raising a fist (paw?) and unleashing an blast of eldritch magic that slams one of the necromites in the chest, lifting the figure of its feet! (10 dmg + prone)
Hearing something about balls and seeing the tabaxi casting a spell, Lesh bursts into the room with a gleeful expression on his reptilian mug. His teeth gleaming and with a "kaa-kaa-kaa, Holy fire!" he invokes divine magic and a flame-like radiance descends on the necromite to the left of the sea captain. The necromite is somewhat taken back from seeing a lizard man coming at him that he is caught flat-footed and takes the full brunt of the sacred flame! Necromite save: [1d20+1]=6+1=7
Ambergris brings up his spear, but the necromite closest to him is quicker. The skull flail in its hand whirls and smack the sea captain in the side of the head, leaving him seeing stars!
The bludgeon to his head causes Ambergris to emit a few expletives which result in his attacker being immolated in a fiery ignition of warlockian curses! The necromite howls in agony and crumples to the ground, unable to repel the warlockian curse! Necromite save: [1d20+1]=11+1=12
(I'm not sure "warlockian" is a word, but I'm damn gonna use it from now on!
)
The prone necromite manages to get to its feet and begins the incantations of a spell.
The necromite Lesh attacked, reacts violently, whirling the skull-faced flail around and down upon the lizard man's head!
Forgotten for the moment, the unseen servant stands still holding the torch which sheds shadowy light on the combatants in the room.
Cursing & Necromites, Rd. 2
Cursing the burning flail-bearer, Ambergris turns and runs another necromite clean through with his spear! The man belches blood and dies on the end of the spear.
Lesh likewise curses the necromite who whacked him in the head, staggering back a few paces toward the bath-robed unseen servant. Invoking divine magic once again, he shouts "Lyonsbane!" and burning radiance erupts from his hand, striking the necromite again!
Moving behind Ambergris, Tommy fires another eldritch blast at Lesh's opponent, even though the man somehow dodges the full effect.
Necromite save: [1d20+1]=14+1=15
"Do you value your life?" the tabaxi shouts at the man, hoping to keep from killing him.
The necromite responds by invoking claws of darkness and sending them after Tommy...who easily tumbles out of the way!
Necromite: [1d20+5]=4+5=9 [2d4+3]=6+3=9
