Marodin hears the chatter about Innana's wounds and takes a quick glance over his shoulder.

"Ugh. Not good. Innana! Get back!"

Marodin will attempt to move closer to Innana and cast Cure Light Wounds on her.

If Innana disengages from the fight, Semele will approach her and administer First Aid. If not, she'll continue her attempts to kill sleeping gnolls.
Semele already cast her one CLW on Innana before this fight. She doesn't have another.

Innana the fighter:

If Bregalad makes it over between the gnoll and Innana, she will do a fighting retreat towards Marodin to get in on the healing spell he is ready to cast.

If Bregalad does not make it over towards Innana, she will fight to the death. Hopefully the gnoll will be the one to die.

Innana has her sword and shield in hand.

She hears Tratiln echo a command to Semele to heal her leg.
Very cool description. By the way, have you read the Paksenarrion books by Elizabeth Moon? I think you'd really like them.

OK. That is just spooky. I looked up Elizabeth Moon on Amazon, and low and behold, there is Innana on the front cover. I had to order the book.

Round Three

Innana backs away from the gnoll slowly in a light-headed daze and manages to disengage without harm as Bregalad comes to her aid. Semele rushes up, pulling bandages from her pack and a jar of foul-smelling ointment. Marodin is close behind, calling upon his Immortal patrons to bless the warrioress with healing energy.

Hackles raised, Bregalad jabs at the gnoll that almost killed Innana but the lithe monster dodges the blow. Tratiln rushes up to stand beside the spearmen, but the gnoll evades that blow as well. It seems as though the gods themselves might have abandoned the adventurers for the moment. Thordin engages the two remaining gnolls but is unable to strike a telling blow. However, the gnolls fare no better, as the two sparring with Thordin are unable to damage the doughty dwarf and both Bregalad and Tratiln fight off blows from the other.

In the courtyard, Lanny and Rhys recover in time to both fire at the gaunt gnoll, but both arrows go wild. In response the creature raises its medallion for the second time and another flame burst forth, engulfing Lanny this time.
Innana regains 2 hp from the First Aid check and 4 from the Cure Light Wounds spell. Man, everyone rolled terribly this round. Lanny took 7 damage from the magical flame. I'm going to say that Semele needs to spend another couple rounds actually administering the first aid, although Innana regains the 2 hp immediately. Marodin can rejoin combat, if he so desires.

So, Innana, the first book in the series is Sheepfarmer's Daughter. It's a pretty kick-ass series; she's a pretty decent writer.

Tratiln, his smirk long since gone due to his bad luck in melee combat, is beginning to get frustrated. "Blasted gnolls, go down already!" Tratlin will continue to stike at the nearest gnoll, keeping himself between them and Innana and Semele.

Lanny the elf

Lanny reels from the blast of oily black flame, reflexively dropping his bow to the ground to protect it from harm. He glances at his seared flesh, at Rhys's seared flesh, and at the slumped figure lying on the ground.

"Medics in the courtyard!" he yells at the top of his lungs.

Quickly drawing his sword and shield, he raises his shield in front of him to protect himself from another fiery blast.

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!" he yells as he charges the gnoll sorcerer, determined to grab the beast's attention and to skewer it with his sword to prevent it from accessing its medallion for a third time.

Innana the Fighter

Innana felt hope replace the frantic exhaustion when Bregalad rushed into view. Focused now on safely retreating Innana was able to hop back towards the clerics. Immediately she felt Semele bring her to the ground and expertly apply first aid. Innana feels the healing spell from Marodin fill her body like liquid gold heat. Innana drops her head back lost in time for a moment.

Suddenly Innana hears Lanny scream "Medics in the Courtyard!" Innana's eyes pop open and looks into Semele's wide open. Innana's voice came out as a raspy whisper"Where is Lanny?" Innana says a silent prayer to any immortal who may be in the area, "Help Lanny". Innana hears Lanny's scream and Innana squeezes her eyes shut "Please help Lanny."

Rhys the Traveler

While Lanny attacks the gnoll directly on, Rhys dops his bow, draws his sword, and uses his speed to flank the gnoll, attacking it from behind.

Bregalad the elf

Lanny's call for aid drives Bregalad to finish his own fight quickly! "Hold fast, Lantharios! Help will soon be there!" The elf hopes that it will not be too late!
As soon as Bregalad's own fight with his gnoll is over, he will enter the courtyard through the main entrance, and search out Lanny and Rhys.

Innana the Fighter:

As soon as she is able, Innana intends to help out where she can. If Thordin is still in battle with the gnolls, she will help out with finishing them off first since they are the closest.

Innana then intends to follow the rest of the group in and fight whatever may be within the walls of the courtyard.

Innana has her sword and shield. She also has her throwing daggers. she has four more she can throw. (She is going to save the silver daggers in case we need them for the were-creatures.) Innana also has her cestus for close encounters of the third kind. Innana intends to pick up the net if it is close enough.

Round Four

Rhys leaps forward, drawing his blade and raking the tip across his enemy's cheek. Lanny also advances and attacks, but the gnoll dodges the strike while drawing from his belt an ivory club that looks disturbingly like a human femur; the bone is carved with a variety of obscene runes and, adorning the base, are several clumps of what look to be hanks of hair, still attached to scraps of leathery skin. The gnoll giggles insanely as it lashes out with the club, delivering a blow to Rhys that sends the mystic crumpling to the ground.

Outside the walls, Thordin presses the attack with his two blades; the magical sword pierces the defenses of one of his opponents but leaves him open to a blow from the other that sends the doughty dwarf reeling for a moment. Marodin rushes to the aid of his friend but is unable to land a hit. Innana rushes in, heedless of the danger, and strikes the gnoll that Thordin had previously wounded. The monster is now bleeding heavily from numerous gashes, and its movements are slow and strained. Bregalad thrusts with his spear, impaling his foe as Tratiln delivers the killing blow. Now only two gnolls remain, engaging Thordin, Marodin and Innana for the moment.

Upon hearing Lanny's shouts both Drudsa and Semele rush forward through the open gate and see Lanny battling another gnoll with the form of Rhys lying motionless on the ground.
Thordin takes 6 damage and missed his Deflect chance. Rhys took 5 damage, reducing him to 0 exactly, but managed to save to stay alive but unconscious. I'm going to say that Drudsa and Semele can reach him next round and attempt to stabilize him. Both can use First Aid, and Semele can still cast an orison, I believe, that will heal 1 hp. The gnoll that Bregalad and Tratiln were engaging is now dead. And I made a mistake; the gnoll is a shaman, not a sorcerer.

Innana the Fighter:

Innana points up at the sky, and looks in amazement, "Is that a flying cat?" (hopefully the gnolls follow her gaze). Innana intends to move in for a quick kill as they expose their necks. "Nope!, Innana spins in a spiral with her sword in full swing, "Just a couple of dying dogs!!" Innana intends to slice their necks on the tail end of her spiral turn.

Innana holds her shield towards the gnolls, as she makes in mostly around her spin, she will bring the shield around the other side in case of any backlash.

Tratiln quickly moves from the fallen gnoll before it even has a chance to hit the ground to begin engaging the next one. "Bregalad, you go high and I'll go low" and with that, Tratiln will lower himself a bit and swing low on the gnoll, making sure that Bregalad has plenty of space above to hit him.

Lanny the elf

Lanny's heart begins to pound furiously as he sees Rhys fall to the ground. He knows that timing is now critical, and that if Rhys is not provided first aid promptly, he will likely die. Yet, Lanny knows that he cannot provide the first aid himself, for that would leave him wide open to an attack by the gnoll. And then there would be two corpses instead of one.

Seeing Drudsa and Semele appear at the main gate, a glimmer of hope appears in Lanny's eyes.

"Drudsa! Semele! Over here! Please hurry!" he calls to them. Lanny waits to see the shaman's reaction.
Lanny will take a -1 penalty to his initiative roll and will wait to see what the shaman does. If the shaman attacks or approaches Drudsa or Semele, Lanny will administer emergency First Aid to Rhys in an attempt to stabilize him and save his life. If the shaman continues to attack Lanny, Lanny will attempt a Fighting Withdrawal with sword and shield to try to draw the shaman away from Rhys, so that Drudsa and Semele can get to him safely in the next round (my understanding from your post is that they would be moving to his location in Round 5 and attempting First Aid in Round 6).

First Aid: WIS+1=16
or
Fighting Withdrawal: Longsword, Masterwork (Basic): 1d20+3, 1d8+1 damage

Also, I am assuming that the new house rules for First Aid as listed on the House Rules thread (and particularly the rules about how long it takes to adminster it) pertain to first aid applied for purposes of regaining hit points at the end of a battle, and not to first aid applied for purposes of stabilizing an unconscious person (to prevent them from dying). The DD Rulebook pages 47 and 143 seem to distinguish between these two types of application of First Aid.

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad answers Tratiln in elvish. "No, my friend! Lantharios calls for help! Thordin will handle those two!

Bregalad races into the courtyard to aid Lanny and Rhys. He will cast Magic Missile upon the shaman, as soon as he is within range.
Sorry, Tratiln. Bregalad would love to assist you in finishing off those two gnolls. But he's more worried about that shaman in the courtyard.
