1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles - 1st - 3rd Days
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Ito and Omi continue to charge.
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Ito continues wending his way toward the bandits ahead at the fastest possible pace.
The laminated wood of Kentaro's great creaks as he draws the string to his ear. He looses the arrow and it flies in a shallow arc and buries itself in the body of the archer shooting at him. The strike rocks him and twists his torso. He is gravely wounded, but the legs under him legs remain planted in a kyujutsu shooting stance.
As he winds his way through the field of stones and boulders, Omi's eyes are fixed on the lightly armored bandits before him. The wide sode on his shoulders flex and bounce with each quick and heavy step.
I assume Omi and Ito are holding bows at this point. The range is point blanks for both. If you want to change weapons in your secondary phases in this turn, you can. That would be in Turn 7, before we go to Turn 8. Which will be posted now.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Kentaro gives a rueful look to his dwindling quiver and shoots again to finish the man off.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Turn 8
The bandit who ran from Ito and Omi into cover 5Py re-emerges and runs to the right of the bandit in the indigo armor and holds his yari lowered. The man in an archery duel with Kentaro 1Pnh looses another poor shot at him, this time too high. The arrow flies a half a yard over the big ronin's shoulder. A bandit with a naginata 4Pn and some light ashigaru armor pieces emerges from the foliage to the south and runs toward the men behind the fallen rock. The man in the dark blue armor 3PHdh shoots at Ito, but the shot is high and the arrow sails away into the distance.
Kentaro again shoots at the archer toward his right, but his arrow goes wide and plunges through the foliage beside the man.
5Py and 3PHdh have partial cover (-2 to BCS) behind the lying rock.
Need:
Omi's and Ito's secondary actions for last turn, if any. Are they still carrying dai-kyu, or did they draw katana?
Omi's, Ito's and Taisho's primary actions for this turn (Turn 8).

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Omi and Ito will change weapons. Both draw wakazashis.
OOC: They are drawing waks due to the restrictive terrain. If they can use katanas with out penalty, they will draw those instead.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
T and YT squares are restricted terrain. The squares in front of the bandits aren't restricted, so the bushi draw their katana.

Need Omi's and Ito's actions for this turn. I assume they'll continue rushing to the attack. But to be fair, I don't want to assume anything.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Do you need another roll for Kentaro?
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Yes, Omi and Ito continue to charge
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Turn 8
The two samurai bushi continue their rush through the rough terrain toward the foes. The both dropped their dai-kyu and drew their katana.
Turn 9
The bandit standing behind the lying rock eyes Ito's approach, long yari lowered and at the ready.
The archer to Kentaro's right again looses an arrow at him. It arcs through the air, strikes the side plate of the bushi's chest o-yoroi, and bounces away.
The man with the naginata continues his approach and stops to the right of the archer in heavy armor, the blade of his naginata raised. That archer again draws his han-kyu and looses a willow leaf yanagi-ba at Ito, from only short yards away. The arrow strikes the bushi's armor squarely and punches through.
Ito 11HP damage.
Everyone's Turn 9 actions please. Ito can run 3 squares, Omi 2 squares.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Still don't see anything for Taisho to do yet other than continue to observe. Once everyone is fully engaged it might be worth him getting in and bonking people, but he can't risk a solo engagement...
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Kentaro has had enough of this bandit. He aims carefully and ends his life.
Dai-kyu BCS 12 +1 for arrow = 13. [1d20]=8 damage [5d5+3]=13+3=16

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Taisho, lying atop the standing rock beside the big and furiously shooting ronin looks all around and listens. To the front, there is the sound of layered wooden bows creaking as they're drawn toward the limit of snapping, the sounds of steel arrowheads striking stone, snapping, or humming away away into the distance, with high and taut tones fading to loose and low tones in the distance. And the sounds of steel striking and puncturing steel....
To the left and right, no movement is seen. But it is silent on the mountainside. The birds don't sing in either direction. Even the insects hardly fly in their clumsy, imperfect lines and circles. Taisho, son of town merchants and not a bushi himself, doesn't know what to make of it. Is this what happens in nature during a rapid and violent archery duel? The action is quick, unforeseen, and unsettling enough to himself that he imagines that it must be similar to the isolated creatures of this section of a lonely mountain. Or do they detect something else moving about? He looks and listens again. Nothing. "Not likely," he decides. "Arrows flying, only seconds ago two men spilling their lives toward Heaven or Hell. Enough to draw the attention of even a short-sighted bug for a while."
But in the direction of his feet, to the north, he still hears songbirds fuss, sing, and call. It sounds as if they are going about their usual birds' business.
It looks like a gakusho's job is kind of like a D&D cleric's job-- boring a lot of the time, but always needed and valuable, and sometimes you have to be a fighter and save the day. With this time scale (6 seconds per 1 minute turn!), the bushi Ito, Kentaro, and Omi (in order of Action Phases) can only see before them. They're intensely focused on shooting at a foe or closing on him, they're not aware of what's going on side to side or behind. At the end of the next round (Turn 10), it will have been 1 minute of arrow flurries and 1 minute of characters moving around for combat.
I think Situational Observation abilities will always be helpful and crucial. As will Perception of Hidden Things rolls, either by the player or undisclosed by the GM. I think a gakusho or shugendo can find themselves crucial in Bushido. Sometimes the bushi might find themselves taking a backseat holding onto their hats while the high Wit and Will spiritual people figure things out. Nippon is a ghostly place. In the wilds, in the towns, and in the cities.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Kentaro's arrow flies and drives through the middle of the archer bandit's breastplate. His han-kyu flies out of his hand and he drops to the ground.
Need Omi's and Ito's actions. Again, Ito can move 3 squares and Omi can move 2.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Turn 9
Ito and Omi continue their charge through the stony field toward the armored men behind and beside the lying rock. Ito steps over the body of the man with a naginata slain by Kentaro's arrow. The bushi see that one leg of the pants of the man with the naginata (4Pn) is soaked with blood, as if it had run from under his ashigaru breastplate.
Turn 10 revised, please see below.
Turn 10
The bandit with the yari (5Py) meets Ito's charge with thrust of his weapon. The yari's head pierces Ito's armor and slashes the bushi's side.
The man with the han-kyu and parts of heavy armor 3PHdhcarefully steps among the stones behind him, still facing the charging bushi.
The may with the naginata stretches forward to slash its blade at Ito, but it only whistles through the air.

Ito hit for 2 HP. Has taken 13 HP damage so far.
4PHdh's backstep isn't in the rules, I improvised that. I think it will come up as NPCs and PCs want to lengthen Range or avoid Engaged status. I propose that stepping backward and keeping the same facing be at half BMA. Thoughts? FYI, because of the rough terrain, the bandit had to make a Deftness ST for the move.
Ito can attack 5Py. Long Range (-1), Partial Concealment (-2), on Treacherous Ground (-1) = -4 to BCS. 4PN is out of range this turn, because the diagonal length of squares is 1.4 yards. So he's 2.8 yards away (more than a yard beyond Long range for a katana, so no attack allowed).
Ito can also (Easy) Climb onto the flattish rock lying in front of him. That would give the Elevated Position bonus to BCS (+1, -1 to NPC's BCS). Since he's Engaged, I'm going to say the Deftness/2 BCS applies. On a failed roll, the character just stays in place and doesn't climb. Like Walk, Run, etc., I'm going to say Climb is a Primary Action.
Need everyone's actions.

Taisho will continue to observe. I don't think he can get anywhere useful in the span of the combat anyway...

His current foe felled at last, he turns to the other bow-wielder (3PHdh) and fires an arrow over his head.
