Mobile version of dice roller?

#1 Post by ToniXX »

I'm curious if anyone using the dice roller would benefit from a mobile-friendly version? It actually looks pretty good on my android, but it could be better. But, if nobody will use it, there's not much point in doing it, at least not right away.

I personally don't, but I believe Ron and Argennian both check the forums and occasionally try to roll dice from mobile devices.

I think arg has an android too, I use an iPhone4 that my agency got me. Try not to do too much on that with playing when rolling is involved. Too klunky.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Thanks for the input, guys. I have an android too, but I just don't see me using it that much either. I'm at my desk so often.
I'm still kicking the idea around, though, along with some others.

Mobile phone gamer #2 checking in here, albeit a bit late! :)

Yeah, I'd say that like 70+% of my posts are from my Blackberry 'BlackJack' smartphone. (Btw, I always italicize the 'smart' part of 'smartphone' because I'm sure that I'm not using it to its full capability, therefore... I feel caveman-dumb and technically-idiotic. IC: "Aye, tis indeed sorrowful but most true, milords!" OOC: yeah, the phone's smarter than I am! )

Honestly, it's not that bad and I am so thankful to be able to have a phone with internet, as I was homeless for awhile and still don't have internet at my new place. I've always struggled a bit when making rolls, as I cannot copy/paste (can this be done with a Blackberry?) and so have to type in my rolls and the entire hyperlink. I also have to physically type in the codes for colors, font styles, etc. My best friend is patiently trying to get me to go 4G with an Android or Iphone but still haven't pulled the trigger yet. I know, I know... :D

If there was a way to do a mobile option, would it be in the form of an app? Don't think, or should say know, if apps are available for a Blackberry. No worries or pressure as I'm sure my buddy is going to be getting me a 4G phone for Christmas. And I'm getting meself internet at home! Woot! :P

Thanks for the input, Argennian. The mobile version wouldn't be an app, just a mobile-optimized version of the site. If you come to the site on a mobile browser, it would be automatically detected and redirect you to the mobile version.

Anyway, I think it's pretty low on the priority list at the moment. The site as it is looks pretty good on my Android phone, and I've seen it on a friend's Iphone.

Also, Argennian, if you have the choice, go android. Don't drink the Apple cool-aid (just my two cents!)

Heh, the iPhone doesn't like the Jethro Tull board (no Flash capabilities)! But the price on it is nice... :)

Agreed. No need to make any changes unless the demand arises. The site works great as is and I can access everything via my Blackberry, so no worries there! :)

Yeah, my buddy's got an Motorola 4G Android and I'm pretty sure that's the way I'll go as well. My boss just recently got the iPhone4 and he likes it but did admit that it took some getting use to, coming from a Blackberry like I'm using.

I guess my real reluctance stems from working a lot of construction over the past 3-4 years and so was always concerned about dropping/durability issues with a touch-screen or even a flip phone for that matter. Not that any of the new phones out there will love being dropped from a ladder, mind you, it's also the dust, laying on/up against it things that concern me.

How's your Android held up? Are you happy with it overall? What service provider do you use? If given the choice, would you use a different one? Just curious, you know! :?

I used to have a blackberry too. I liked it a lot, but then I got an HTC Inspire and was simply amazed at what it could do. I immediately got a shell for it, and yes, it has held up quite well so far. I've dropped it more than a few times, and it's fine. I really like the build quality on HTC phones.

My network is AT&T. It's great in my area, but I'd give Verizon a try if I ever have problems. I live pretty close to a freeway and can see the ATT cell tower from my front porch, so I get great bars at home.
