Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Urlando
Still holding his morningstar, Urlando grabs at one of the metal-faced beings with his other hand. This dude won't be expecting this, he thinks. They think we're timid little lab rats. He intends to drag the being along as a shield against the purple lights, and if that doesn't work, push it into the nearest light and run.

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Kurot observes, fascinated. He wishes Bruce were still here, so confirm his theory that the purple entities are interested only in biological life forms. Why, though?
Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Fortress Interior 346D/81 (Evening)
The light entities >BLINK< and disappear only to leap the distance and reappear next to their targets.
Round 1

Podo attempts to alert his companions, but the environmental >HUMMMMM< prevents vocal communication. OOC: Green overlay area on map. He bounds towards Denslow and preps for defense. Two of the constructs attack Podo and two are against Denslow.
Podo is struck twice (DMG 8 + DMG 1 = DMG 9) with electrical flashes.
Denslow fares better and receives just one flash (DMG 3) from his attackers.
Silvestri draws his blaster, but before he can react, a light foe strikes twice with flashes and >SNAP, SNAP< of energy discharges! (DMG 6 + DMG 1 = DMG 7)
Saiph tucks into the alcove’s corner to maximize his stand against these threats. His cover affords some protection as he is struck only once with an electric jolt. (DMG 3)
Needle retreats out of the room and back into the hallway, meeting one of the light matrixes and receiving two strikes! (DMG 6 + DMG 3 = DMG 9)
Anton stands his ground and prepares for a fight. Perhaps confined by the golden column, each entity succeeds with its dual attack and inflicts heavy damage on the symbiote!! (DMG 1 + DMG 7 + DMG 5 + DMG 6 + CRIT DMG 7 = DMG 26)
Urlando abducts one of the masked humanoids for use as a make-shift shield. Before he can block with its body, the pain of an electrical strike >SNAP< (DMG 6) thwarts his effort!
Kurot is momentarily curious why these light entities are conspicuously avoiding him. He then witnesses their rapid descent onto his comrades!
Max, focused on the alcove humanoid, is surprised by two of the arrivals and receives three strikes! (DMG 7 + DMG 7 + DMG 2 = DMG 16)
Each energy attacker has consumed two pairs of its extremities in the initial attacks.

Podo
Uninterested in what happens when all 10 appendages have been used, Podo thrusts his spear directly at the center of the floating construct to his left.
Initiative:
OOC: this being my first combat, did I do everything correctly? do I need to do anything else? Also Norjax do you allow Luck to spent on any roll, is there anything we can't spend it on?

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Anton aims for the munitions at the entities edge hoping to disable it. The hivemind musters all of its psychic energy!
Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
It dawns on Kurot that maybe he should save the theorizing for later and help his friends. Anton seems to be in the worst shape, so Kurot rushes to his aid.

Despite feeling prepared for an attack Needle is still surprised when the blue light creature shocks him and he reacts slowly:

He flinches and makes a wild swing with his Battle Axe:

Fortress Interior 346D/81 (Evening)
Round 1 continued ...

Saiph makes a ritual gesture with his arms and fires Molecular Disruption (14pt. dmg) from his palms and into the creature. The enemy explodes in a cascade of sparks and vanishes.
Silvestri aims and blasts (7pt. dmg) the floating star with his ancient weapon. The light disappears on contact with the energy beam.
Max fumbles and is prone. (ML choice, spend action to recover next round)
Denslow swings his deadly blade into the translucent entity. (2pt. dmg) It vansihes after the blade passes through its envelope.
Podo jabs the magical construct with the tip of his spear (9pt. dmg) and it winks away.
Urlando attempts to use his hostage as a ram, then swings and misses with his morning star.
Anton tries to strike one of the pests with his hammer but cannot make an impact on the luminous adversary.
Kurot comes to Anton’s aid and connects once with his axe (8pt. dmg), puzzled when the entity vanishes after contact.
Needle slashes with his battle axe, barely touching (1pt. dmg) the light-thing but causes it to wink out of sight.
Although deadly, it is now apparent that these entities are fragile and swatted away like insect nuisances.
The masked humanoids begin to move towards perimeter corridors of the main chamber.

Seeing the cloaked humanoids starting to leave the area, Saiph slips up right behind the closest one and tries to follow it out of the room.

Urlando turns one head to thank Silvestri for his aid, while the other remains fixed on the purple thing. He lashes at it with his morningstar:
