Re: OOC 3 > Rant and Rave and Throw Rocks!
Not a problem. And sorry I've been quiet as well. I was off at a training/department meeting this week, and only barely got back yesterday what with all the thunderstorms. I thought I posted something here, but looking around maybe I didn't. If not, I apologize. Tarrin the Wild Mage will be making his presence felt shortly.

Re: OOC 3 > Rant and Rave and Throw Rocks!
My general thought was this...
1/4 of the potion = 2d the weapon's normal damage (i.e. it isn't [damage roll x 2], but the normal damage die rolled twice, so an arrow would be 2d6 instead of 1d6)
1/2 the potion = 3d the weapon's normal damage
3/4 of the potion = 4d the weapon's normal damage
All of the potion = 5d the weapon's normal damage
Someone who drinks all of the potion is going to average about 30' in height, growing 5x their current size. So an arrow is going to be like 12.5' long. That's got to be at least as big as a heavy ballista, which does 3d10 (in the 2e rules, siege weapon information is found under Chapter 8 of the Player's Option: Combat and Tactics book in the link Hedgeknight provided (http://www.purpleworm.org/rules/). But I figured it might be too hard to relate every weapon to a siege weapon, so it would just be easier to increase damage dice for the weapon in question.
Plus, that way you still have a lot of dice chance in each roll. You could conceivably roll crappy and still do under 10 points of damage, even if you are 30' tall.
If damage doesn't increase, then it seems like the potion would only be good for things like, "Oh, I've fallen into a 15' deep pit and I can't climb out; thank goodness I have a potion of growth!"

If no one disagrees, we'll put this in the house rules thread. How would this effect say, a longsword or other melee weapon?

Well, there are two ways of looking at it. First, the potion description says that strength does not increase enough to give increased damage. From that you could say your damage is normal.
Or we could go with the rules from the Enlarge spell, which increases your damage dealt as a percentage of the increased size (ie: 150% bigger size = 150% bigger damage). Since the potion is adding 6 feet, figure our how much of an increase that is over your normal height, and multiply your damage by that percentage. Which is pretty close to your way, actually, so either would work. Personally, I'd go with some variation on Option 2.

Yeah, I wasn't figuring any bonus for increased STR. This was all generally based on the relative size increase of the weapon.
To answer Hedgeknight's question, it is just an increase in the damage dice rolled, so...
a battle axe would do 2d8/3d8/4d8/5d8 (or 1/4 potion, 1/2 potion, 3/4 potion, 4/4 potion respectively)
a long sword would do 2d8/3d8/4d8/5d8
a knife would do 2d3/3d3/4d3/5d3
a Long Knife +1 would do 2d3+1/3d3+1/4d3+1/5d3+1
a TH-sword would do 2d10/3d10/4d10/5d10
etc.
etc.

I went with the initial 2d6 for this combat - let's push this along!
Nice posts, fellers, here and IC > poor ol' Bork...I hope he gets to do some damage before he dies.

Actually, the two handed sword would do 3d6/9d6/12d6/15d6, since Bork is a large creature.

I was just using the standard damage rolls and not accounting for creature size... probably because I'm generally not a big fan of the whole weapon damage vs. size aspect of the rules.

By the way, what was the giant's strength check for?

Just wanted to make sure he could break loose from the weakened, fireballed vines and grasses.

Sorry, I meant to say that Tarrin blocked Greystone from leaving, not Darkstar. I guess we'll just roll with it. Your names are way too similar.

You want me to delete my responses and we can reply it from when Tarrin cut in front of Greystone?
I am fine with having my own argument later

It's all the same conversation... And would likely end the same way, whenever it takes place.

Re: OOC 3 > Rant and Rave and Throw Rocks!
Happy Saturday fellers!
Got all three threads updated - yeah me! Appreciate your patience - hell week at work.
Was looking through some of the other game threads and noticed something that is missing from our game > character portraits. I'd like to see what you think your character looks like - it helps to put a "face" with the name.
Also, is there a way to embed an image into the text without having that large, obnoxious box spread out all the way across the page? Mod help, Alethan?

See this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=667
You want the first section, on imbedding the image. In order to imbed the image (vs. attaching it) it has to come from the interwebz, not your hard drive. You can host the image somewhere, like a photobucket account. That will make sure you have control over it (so it doesn't get removed by the host, leaving you with no image).

Photobucket works well. I've used it to host maps and other pictures I need to embed in the game I run over on rpol.

I use Photobucket too and it worked well with Thurgrum's pic. Hey Hoon > I run a game and play in a game over on RPoL - which game do you run?
