Re: Founding Clifftown
OM - Today is currently Freeday, 26th of Goodmonth. This is the day that the Stoneguts move into Beachtown, correct?
So if a group leaves tomorrow, they won't be interfering with the timeline.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Technically, there is no timeline here since you are currently “in town”.
If you are asking me if you can camp here tonight and take off tomorrow, yes.
I was under the impression that you were eventually leaving from here, so as long as you don’t act on the information you wouldn’t know, like by going back to town first to do anything about the dwarves, you can leave anytime you like.

Re: Founding Clifftown
I don't want to keep players waiting while details of future trips are made. So I will continue updating this thread as posted until I get proper direction from anyone wishing to do something else.
The Long Black CLiffs
Mid Afternoon
Chauncey continues to look over the crushed human sized bones, He, Wes, and Grimm seem to be thinking about their next investigation, and might be willing to take another along as well.
Luther takes off alone, as he sometimes does. A few people follow the ranger as he investigates the area beyond the sparse treeline that runs east along the top of the cliffs. Kicking around at the surface reveals a rocky base that would be even less suitable for farming than the sandy soil they left behind on the beach. Wake questions if they are searching for anything specific and gets a strong impression otherwise. The bugs here aren't nearly as bad, with the strong ocean breezes blowing up over the cliffs, but grey clouds of them can still be seen further inland over the marsh.
Narramore sounds like he would stay to help with the town building, but is tempted by the Princess and the others when they follow the ranger, hoping to find out more about this oncoming group. The oppressive heat from the sun continues to beat down upon them in their exposed positions, with no clouds or shelter in sight.
The Princess spends some time looking around, spotting the ugly dwarf ship and most of Beachtown from her elevated perch, Looking out over the jungle, she sees only the lush green canopy form the massive trees hiding the nearest obelisk or any other landmarks in the jungle. She does spot the upper portion of a tall black tower peeking up over the trees near the very center of the island, but cant tell how far away it is from this distance. It appears to be positioned atop the high cliff wall that runs past the natives camp, but it is difficult to make out any more detail than that. None other than her can see it at all.
She believes one member of the oncoming group was waving their arm in the air at them, so she figures they have spotted her group. They are still a good 2 hour hike away, however. A bit further along the black cliffs, another smashed human sized skeleton is found up ahead.
Actions?
Luther
The Princess (-1 first)
Wake (-1 first)
Sir Narramore
Wes (-1 1st)
Chauncey (-2 1st -1 2nd)
Grimm -1 dam
Liam (helping in town)

Wake
"The best plan I have heard so far is to head to the 8'o clock Obelisk and then scout the dwarves mine on the way back. What does everyone think of that?", says Wake trying to bring some order to the current chaos.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Grimm
"If we survive scouting the obelisk, we'll be pretty battered on the way back to spy on the Stoneguts. We almost died at the last one, and we were like seven people. I think we should go directly to their camp.
It's just more important than satisfying our curiosity." He sounds like he's growing impatient. "I don't care if some of you don't want to do it. Your choice. But, those of us who want to, let's get moving!

Wake
Wake finds a spot with the most shade that he can, and sits on his knees down on the ground. He draws is dagger, which appears to be shaped like a scimitar. He closes his eyes while holding the dagger lying across his two hands and sits quietly for a few minutes until others express an opinion.

Ugh. Posted last night and now it's not here.
Wes
"I agree. Dwarves first. That last trip was brutal."
"Now I'm going down to help the townsfolk build shelters. Those of us who are going can leave in the morning."

Re: Founding Clifftown
The Princess
She relays her observations on the tower and the oncoming waver. "That tower is interesting. Without seeing a map, it seems like it could be in the middle of the so-called ring of obelisks." She continues musing on events and possibilities. "And that devastation we saw while sailing, it looked like it came from the middle of the island. Do you suppose a catastrophic accident occurred there?"
She waves it away for another day. "But more pressing is that group; they seem to be waving at us. I do hope they aren't in any immediate danger."
"Luther? You don't mean to scout that marsh right now, do you? I think we've learned that this immediate area is rubbish for planting, but may possibly be a decent spot for housing."
The Princess looks around and at the afternoon sun. "Well? Do we go intercept or not? We may have time to get there and back before sunset."

Sir William Narramore
"Interesting," the knight says and shades his eyes, peering out in vain to catch sight of the tower. "My first goal, whatever else is done, is meeting these people. For some reason, I am intensely curious about them." He smiles. "Afterward, I am game for any exploration. Im baking like a potato here, though. Some shade wouldn't be amiss."

"Interesting that tower...
I'm going to go back to... camp. And probably will help around a bit and rest and get ready for tomorrow.
Good luck with the group coming."

Wake
Wake finishes his prayers and stands back up and says, "It sounds like Wes and Grimm are locked in on the scouting the dwarves with a small crew - understood. The Princess, Sir Narramore and I are interested in meeting the new comers. Luther and Chauncey would you like to go with either group - I see you both have your own things going with the marsh and bones?"

Re: Founding Clifftown
"I conjecture that these unfortunate souls jumped – or were cast – from the clifftops. It seems the most likely explanation," says Chauncey, "But without further evidence, the question is moot."
He sticks with Wes and Grimm as they return to the camp and acts in a supervisory capacity to any ongoing projects, not deigning to dirty his hands or, Boccob forbid, lift anything.
"I can make one of us invisible tonight before retiring," he says to his companions, "Who would like to go first? Tomorrow I shall be able to render two more of us unseen."

Wes
"I think Grimm should go first", says Wes. "One of us might be called upon to use our spells later today and ruin the whole thing".
"Also", he adds, "Obad Hai has given me abilities to move quickly through the jungle, to pass unseen by animals, and even to talk to them and perhaps persuade them not to harm me. I may not need to take up your offer. At least for the moment".
"So if somebody else wishes to join our quest, you could render them invisible instead".

Re: Founding Clifftown
The Long Black CLiffs
Mid Afternoon
Wes, Grimm, and Chauncey take their leave from the rest of the group, moving back down the rocky cliff tops and returning to the beach where the commoners are working hard to get things organized. By the time they get back, Marge already has a crew up above the cave hole, piling up rocks and using the abandoned tarp as a wind catch to help flush the stink from the cave. The woman is adamant that the wet cave will do for shelter until buildings can be erected. Wes helps out with any plant identification, finding plenty of fruit trees and other edibles in abundance in this secluded area of the beach. They find Liam pointing this way and that, doing what he can to keep everyone working. He just shakes his head at Chauncey and his baby soft hands. I will get a new mission thread set up as soon as I know who will be leading it, what it will be called, and once we are sure no others are going along. Until then, please continue posting anything you want to do in Clifftown here.
Despite the senior groups offer for anyone to join them on their mission to spy on the dwarves, Luther, Wake, Sir Narramore, and The Princess remain where they are on the cliffs, still wishing to meet up with the oncoming group they see in the distance. Though Wake seems to be on the fence on whether he will accompany the other group or not. They head towards the east, finding another bleached white skeleton laying in tatters atop the black cliffs. Luther seems to want to travel deeper inland, across the massive marshland they can see stretched out for many miles to the North. The other group on the cliffs is clearly headed towards them, so the group continues slogging through the scorching sun, any exposed skin already starting to burn and sting from the intense rays. After about an hour passes, you appear to be almost halfway to the other group when you spot something out of the corner of your eye over the middle of the vast marsh. Can I get a Hard Wisdom check from each of you with your next action, please?

Sir William Narramore
Narramore adjusts his cloak to cover more exposed skin, still using part of it as a hood to shade his face from the sun and drape over metal armor to prevent some modicum of heat from pouring through.

Grimm
"Good idea, Wes. Besides, I've got nothing against turning invisible." Grimm grins. He opens his arms wide, as if he were to embrace someone. "I'm ready! Do your magic, master Chauncey!"
If my two companions don't mind, I would like to have Grimm lead the party. That would be a first for me. Besides, he's eager to know what's going on over there with the Stoneguts and know where that thing is.
We could call the quest... 'Metal Examination'?
