Founding Clifftown
Re: Founding Clifftown
Wake
Wake listens to the various opinions and says "Without having a plan of attack, going after the dwarven mine, would not have a high likely hood of success. Is there a plan as part of the proposal? One of the other options was to search for the next orb site, where do we think it would be? Do we have a place to start or are we going off randomly?"

Sir William Narramore
The tall man listens to one, then another, then another of his comrades as they bandy ideas. When Wake speaks, he pulls a slow grin. "Random describes much of our lives here, comrade. Even our best-laid plans go horribly awry most days." He shrugs with a wry chuckle.
"Whatever we can do that will most aid the new town in getting established and defended, I'd say we pursue that goal. Exploring and removing threats from as much of the nearby terrain as possible sounds a worthy pursuit."

Luther
Luther is feeling a bit annoyed that he's not thinking of anything useful.
I don't wanna tackle the Stoneguts- not without a for-sure superior force. There's too many of 'em, from what I hear. Those little rutters are hard to fight- you gotta go underground and fight them on their home turf, like driving out a nest of badgers. I just hope Sister Daisy and her bunch are successful.
For me, I'm heading East, up the cliff. With that, he heads that way. His plan is to explore the swamplands and see what's what.

Spinning Around
Mid Afternoon
Chauncey looks over the crushed bones, believing them to be about human sized. He doesn't see any remnants of clothing or any other decaying material, but it does look like these bones have been picked through before.
With no clear goal to their explorations, opinions on where to go next seem to vary amongst the group. The idea of looking for the dwarves isn't very appealing, so Narramore suggests sticking close to where the settlement is starting so any nearby dangers can be sussed out.
Luther isn't hearing any of that, so he takes off up the clifftops towards the East, climbing up higher until he reaches the flat portion at the top of the cliffs that run the rest of the way along the shoreline. The ranger can hear the waves of the Azure Sea splashing upon the rocks, 60 feet below his position. To the north is a line of thin trees that eventually melds into a vast marshland that stretches on for miles and miles, as far as the human can see. The bugs arent bad out here in the nice sea breeze, but a constant hum of insects can be heard over the marsh.

"Whatever we do," the knight says, "I feel like we should speak with whomever is approaching." He points to the group in the distance. "I'd feel better knowing if they're friend or foe before we set out."
He fashions his cloak into a hood to keep the sun from his face and gauges the distance between the two parties. How long does he think it will take for their paths to meet?

Grimm
"Well, Luther just took a decision. We can wait for them if you want, the only thing I have against it is that I don't like waiting. But if none of you is in a hurry...
We never planned to attack the Stoneguts. That'd be madness. We thought about knowing more about them, their forces and their camp."

Wes
Wes looks east, wondering what kind of creatures Obad-Hai has filled the swamp with. As he stands there, he thinks back to boarding Quark's ship in Saltmarsh, full of excitement at all the things he expected to find in Obad-Hai's domain. No cares or obligations. For a moment he considers throwing in his lot with Luther and heading into the swamp.
Now here I am with plenty of obligations, he thinks to himself. Big ones, to the folks down there, when I told them that Obad-Hai would watch over them. And small ones, to fellas like Chwee. Told him I'd meet up with him, I did. Hard things to carry, obligations.
Wes lays down his pack for a moment and rubs his shoulders. He nods towards the oncoming strangers. "I reckon we should find out who these folks are first of all".
Then he looks down at the townsfolk busy at work below. "They've been run off once from their homes. This is the end of the beach. They can't run any further."
"It's time to find out what the Stoneguts are up to". He picks up his pack again.

Re: Founding Clifftown
With a couple players only posting once a week or so, I want to try to do a bit of housekeeping here to see if we can get this slog figured out.
Luther is currently headed towards the other group along the cliffs edge. They are still a few miles away, so it will take some time to reach them. It sounds like Princess, Narramore, Grimm, and Wake are up for this? Anyone who wants to go along is more than welcome to follow the leader.
Chauncey proposed going to investigate the next obelisk, which would consist of an actual "mission", but is currently looking at bones on the cliffs.
Wes was going to help the townies, and then go along with Chauncey, but has since decided to head out to investigate the dwarves?
I think Liam is still helping the folks breaking ground for Clifftown. (which is fine if he needs to be put on pause for a while)
I will mention this again....you need to have a safe, comfortable place to train, study, research, rest, etc. in order to advance in level. At this current point in the game, there is no longer a safe "town" to do that in. So anyone who is hoping to get a few easy XP exploring in order to level up before doing something else will not be able to do that.

Luther
Luther is only partially interested in the approaching strangers. Right now, his primary interest is in the highlands he's on. Is this open land that could become farms, or barren rock?
He notices if anyone else is climbing to join him, and will wait.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Is this group aware of the dwarven pillaging of beachtown? I saw that Marge showed up with two men, but it seems that nobody here is aware of the devastation back up the beach.
The Princess
"Who's up for a game of following the ranger? Sir Narramore?" She looks around. "Getting a lay of the land around this new settlement would be useful, and will hopefully only take a few weeks hours."
She takes the opportunity to scan the area, looking all around, trying to identify landmarks like the shining obelisk, the dwarven boat, and Beachtown. How far is she able to see from this elevated position? Is she able to see the black tower?

That was deliberate on my part, as I can't have anyone going back trying to foil their plans, since it already happened.

Narramore nods and heads toward the oncoming group after Luther. "Follow the ranger it is," he replies. "Get a look at our surroundings and the neighbors."

Re: Founding Clifftown
Without putting too many words into other peoples' mouths, Wes, Chauncey and Grimm were very likely going to scout out the dwarves. The Obilisk would probably be their #1 choice, but it's a least a dozen (unmapped) hexes away. Very tricky unless a large group wants to go.
Since it's a scouting mission, maybe 4-5 would be needed for the dwarves.
I'm not sure what we could to to build up a shelter unless we want to RP cutting down trees and building a cabin

Wake is happy to help most options that are not random wandering or scouting the dwarves. His preference is on visiting an Orb/Obelisk site.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Are you referring to the obelisk assumed to be at the 4:00 position? Because there is an obvious reason I am making that one extremely difficult to get at, if you haven't noticed yet. (though I wont try to stop you)
There are reportedly other obelisks that might be easier to reach.

"If you ask me, I'm all for paying a visit to the dwarves. Just three of us, counting the mage making us invisible like he did with Lady Trouble.
It doesn't look like anyone else is coming, but at least one would be welcomed. More than four would be too many."

True and true. I will keep jumping on as I am able to make sure there isn't something direct for Liam to address.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Without countering the Dwarves there will be no base at all soon, so clearly someone needs to take care of that right now. Chauncey's main interest lies in the Obelisks, but he's no dummy. No, really, guys...he's not. Um...guys...?
He is conflicted, but is for scouting out the dwarves. With Magic.

Re: Founding Clifftown
If the 4 o'clock obilisk is difficult to get to, and the 7 o clock one is being investigated by the Swamp group, the next easiest one to get to would be the 8'o clock one. Which is about 3 hexes north of the dwarven mine.
So we could scout the dwarves either on the way there or the way back.
And you're right, the dwarves won't stop until something is done.
