Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
If we're going to do anything at night, it would mean waiting the whole day here.
Splitting the party is risky, especially as you say, when it's 2-2-2.
But the entire operation (assuming it goes well) would take around 90 minutes. Since it's early morning, there's a good chance we could be gone before the wasp-riders even get here.
There's the risk of other flying encounters though. Remember the dropped bodies?

Keg looks at TK and grins. Well, damn... that is a fine idea. I'll starting bringing some in... the big man doesn't wait for the others and just steps out getting to work bringing in debris to cover the trapdoor.

The Knife
The Knife looks on in confusion as Keg shambles by holding a big chunk of rock. "Er...Keg... what's with...?" Then it dawns on him. The man must be sleep-walking! He steps back to avoid having a rock dropped on him, then shouts:
"KEG! KEG! WAKE UP! IT'S MORNING! WE'RE LEAVING!"

TK awakens the sleepwalking Keg as the others continue to discuss how they should return to civilization.
A few plans are brought up, but none of them are set in motion yet.

Love the floating shade idea!

I think flying out of here is risky, but offers a good chance of not meeting the wasp riders. (Plus, a movement rate of 24" is pretty fast. The carpet might actually be faster than the wasps.) Walking out is safer, but we're virtually certain to meet them.
I vote to fly out.

Well the plan has always been to travel at night, and sure we might want to do the crossing of the inlet piece before dark, but the rest of it should be a night time operation. If we find the hop scotch via flying carpet is too difficult we'll just walk.
Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
Using the flying carpet as a portable bit of shade is a great idea, but I think maybe we might benefit more from someone heading out as a scout and looking for a sheltered place up ahead (Speaking from the idea of wanting to explore more of the island. And then dropping off one or two passangers at a time at whatever checkpoint. Not sure what the capasity of the carpet is, so this might not be ideal, but then again I bet we would still cover more ground and get a much better view of the land around us mid flight, maybe uncovering a couple hexes at a time as we go.

Keyon
The rogue's head begins to throb at all the back and forth, and he smiles faintly. "We could always try drawing more plaques from the box...perhaps it will lessen our number until we all fit on the carpet." He winks and steps aboard, then commands it to hover two feet above the ground. "After all, what good is a treasure if you don't use it?"
His smile widens into a daring grin. "Or get on and let's be off. If we're going to attempt this flyover idea, let's be quick. Two of you who can easily conceal yourselves on the other side, climb on. You can hide there while I come back for the others. Knife and Darklin would be ideal candidates. Feanol, will you ride along as my glass cannon to put wasps to sleep? Keg and Elnaerel can remain here in concealment until we return."
He looks around them. "Sound acceptable? I don't like splitting up. But the longer we wait and waffle, the more chance some wicked monstrosity stumbles upon us. Let's be about our work."

The Knife
The Knife smiles broadly. "Hiding has always been my favorite way to fight". He jumps aboard the carpet, then looks towards the north, expecting to see the wasps at any moment.

If that settles it, he'll point out their destination and ensure that everyone knows where everyone else will be and for roughly how long.
"All right. Let us leap headfirst into foolishness," he says with a chuckle. "The spinners are jealous that they missed snipping my thread with Assamuk, so they will be watching. Hang on tight, you lot." Keyon orders the carpet away. "Keep a keen eye out for enemies."
Once all have gotten their grip and are settled, he orders the carpet across at maximum speed.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
Do you mind pointing this out to the DM as well?

It is roughly 2.6 miles to the tree line directly across the water, near the spot where you fought the crabs. It is roughly 1 mile across the water to the other side of the “crabs claw”, but that area is still rough rocky ground. The carpet will cover about 4 hexes (miles) over the course of one hour.
All of these hexes have already been explored, by you, so is BH talking about going in the opposite direction?
A little better clarity on the route would help me out greatly.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
Yeah, I am actually all for exploring more, even if only taking the long way around to see what else is on top of the cliffs to the northeast of Clifftown on our way. Now that we can scout from the air we could get some major exploration done.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
I was thinking someone back there had already decided where we'd land during that previous discussion. My bad.
I'll go back and read, or one of them can chime in with it.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
We could always hop to the other crab claw and regroup. Then make a second hop across to the other inlet. So that we're split for briefer periods and remain closer together. Any objections?
Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
The thing that worries me about moving to the other crab claw is that there might be no cover there. If it's just bare rock, whoever was waiting there would be exposed.
I do like the idea of using the carpet to scout along the cliffs to the north though.

How about...we head to the crab claw and check it out. If there is no cover, we go on to the other side. Cover both bases.
