Expedition planning and discussions
Re: Expedition planning and discussions
Just some housekeeping on the map from what I have described in updates that are not noted.
Door K was opened to a corridor that proceeds south at least 60'ft.
To the west of 'tapestry' room is an archway (no door), it leads to a 20 x 20 room with a large round stone (table?) in the centre.

Ok, will update soon!
Re: Expedition planning and discussions
One more thing from me. In play-by-post (and in real play as well for that matter) I as a player have always considered talk (as well as nods, pointing etcetera) as "free action". That means that while I limit myself strictly to one action per turn for Gerdal, I do keep conversations flowing. The way I see it, it's a nice way for the often-posters to pass time and add atmosphere to the thread without actually doing anything that affects the game. It could be considered "fluff". Is that behaviour okay with everyone or does it add to the confusion? I always thought that it's easy to skip if you're in a hurry and just want to read the action, since talk is in blue.
Re: Expedition planning and discussions
I agree on talk, that is how I have always played it in FTF and I don't see why it should be any different in PBP, but its Spearmints call as DM.
Re: Expedition planning and discussions
Sure talk is great. Just keep it related to the expedition. "Hey let's look at that scroll from the lizardmen again", "I wonder who those jackal mask folk were?" , "Let's check the walls for secret rooms" ... Is all fine.
Not, "anyone know the results of the Bogtown mud wrestling league?"

I agree that extra dialog is not only acceptable, it should be encouraged.

I’m actually loving it! This is definitely the fastest paced PbP game I’ve been in. I do need to make a point of checking in a bit more frequently than I’m used too, though.OGRE MAGE wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 2:32 pm I wouldn't mind hearing Red Warrior's thoughts, because it seems like RW must have to spend a lot of time reading through all the posts in order to make an action. I don't want to speak for someone else, but that would get old for me after a while.
If we are waiting for another player to post, but they cant get the time to do so because of how long it takes them to catch up on everyone else's posts, I would think that player would eventually get frustrated. The last thing I want to do is alienate another player into thinking that they cant keep up.
Don't get me wrong on any of this. I enjoy this game and this group a lot. I am simply trying to iron out a few wrinkles along the way if we can.![]()
I also am digging the very different characterizations by the players. For my part, I’m trying to play Isvand as a somewhat hyper but good natured yokel, trying to make a good impression amount the “bigs”. That’s why the bad music, rhymes, and general deference to the other party members.
I’ve shared a bit of Isvand’s internal monologue, which I can definitely cut if it adds to confusion.
I’m personally really enjoying the flow.

Re: Expedition planning and discussions
Thought I do need to read all the backstory soon!
Re: Expedition planning and discussions
I enjoy reading this in others, and try to convey it myself. While it seems OOC, it provides character detail that we often miss during play. The PCs would see more in each other than we usually write, and they would respond to those things.redwarrior wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 3:00 amI’ve shared a bit of Isvand’s internal monologue, which I can definitely cut if it adds to confusion.
For example, Isvand felt a little guilty for leaving Steban in the pit with the ghoul. That's cool, and Steban is aware of it. However, and I'm not sure if I conveyed this well, Steban doesn't hold it against him. What Steban actually tried to do was move forward to engage the ghoul so Isvand could escape; Steban knew he couldn't fight the ghoul and climb out, so he chose to help Isvand escape.

I don't mind the thoughts if someone wants to post them. I don't, but that is a preference on my part.

Re: Expedition planning and discussions
If we can't figure out how to disarm the magical effects on the door, Isvand is probably the best to go first. With his Halfling magic resistance, on top of thief saves, he probably has the best odds of surviving whatever. Of course, disarming is better...

Re: Expedition planning and discussions
So, post Isvand actions in the forum though by the post it seems you are fine with Amos trying to find & remove any traps first.
you currently save as F1.thief saves,

Re: Expedition planning and discussions
It's the halfling luck, aka "plot shield"
Re: Expedition planning and discussions
oooops, did I do that...
Re: Expedition planning and discussions
Though Isvand may not agree, I think that scene works better than 'Amos fails to pick the lock'.

Re: Expedition planning and discussions
LOL, It's great. It definitely fits into Isvand's "humble beginnings" story. AND he's not dead!
