Re: In the Mind of Man (ooc and questions V)
Thanks. Yeah, I go +2/-2 so I don't have to look up a character sheet as often.

Longsword vs. S/M opponent [1d8+3]=8+3=11, vs. L [1d12+3]=2+3=5
This is the second time the barbarian's damage against a large opponent is less than that for a medium one.

Hey Paladin, on a related note, the damage for daggers for a large opponent is 1d3, not 1d4. Just a heads up for next time.

Re: In the Mind of Man (ooc and questions V)
Yeah, I noticed that.
At least I hit. That's twice in a row, which may be a new personal best for Cruloc.

My apologies! Forgot these are large beasties.
I was also coming to tell you that I had Iago throw two daggers...but he only had one on his character sheet.
My mistake.

Can Cruloc attempt to cure Grigor's poisoning?
Assuming Grigor hasn't straight up and died, a favourable reading of the barbarian's First Aid ability would give him a 60% chance of success (base 50% + 10 for Grigor's CON).

Cruloc specifically bought some herbs for such an occasion.

I had the same thought after not seeing his name and stats in the stats block. Amethu has a slow poison and CLWs left to try also.

Hey everyone,
A new player in my "Secret of the Sleestaks" game asked me a question that I thought was worth sharing:

Hi Jemmus,
In general, I roll whenever a PC wouldn't know whether they've succeeded or not. And I usually don't post those results in "Behind the DM Screen."
For example, if a PC rolls and succeeds in a search for concealed doors, and I say they found none, the player knows none exist. Whereas if the DM secretly rolls and says the PC found none, the PC doesn't know if any doors exist, which is more realistic. They just know they didn't find any. Likewise Find Traps, Hide in Shadows, Move Silently, Ranger Tracking, etc. I handle all those kinds of rolls. Just describe the PC action and I'll handle the roll. I also roll for PC initiative, so the outcome doesn't inform PC decisions on what actions to take.
But in combat, the PCs know whether or not they succeeded in hitting. So PCs roll to hit. Likewise most Saving Throws and Attribute Checks, damage dice, CLW dice, Bend Bars/Lift Gate, Open Door, Pick Locks, Climb Wall, etc.
Make sense?

Re: In the Mind of Man (ooc and questions V)
I read this different. If a player rolls against his skill, with a success he could announce "if a door is here I would be sure of it" but with a fail the character would confess, " I tried my best but any hinges or clues are beyond me". The GM would announce there are none to be found, which corresponds to the success and also confirms the failure that none are found but a more skilled seeker might find one if one was truly there. Which is just as realistic in my view. For example, if a PC rolls and succeeds in a search for concealed doors, and I say they found none, the player knows none exist. Whereas if the DM secretly rolls and says the PC found none, the PC doesn't know if any doors exist, which is more realistic.
For myself I tend to include the roll in any post and also add a conclusion, "Yul checks for tracks (fail roll) but finds no discernible prints to follow"

But when a ranger publicly succeeds in their track roll, and are told they find nothing, the player knows no tracks exist. Which they shouldn't. They should only know that no tracks were found.

A delusion brought on by either poison or religion.

Amethus hp roll for added magic-user level divided in half for dual-class for a grand total of 1 additional! Fortunately, he does add a 2nd level spell slot.
By finding this lovely spell book, since he can read some of the spells, can he transcribe them in his own spell book automatically or does he need roll for a % chance to know them. If I fail, can Kiri still have a chance or is it gone? or vice versa? I don't assume Amethu takes it outright either only that he can read it naturally. Kiri has read magic so I assume he could have access to these spells as well?

That IC post was the most romantic love letter I've ever seen.

Kiri can learn these spells too of course.
Just this once, I'll ignore the time it normally takes so we can get back into the action.
You'll both need to cast Read Magic this morning. The spells are in a sorcerous language. The rest of the book is in High Atlantean (which Amethu can read but Kiri can't). It was that text which revealed the spells' names to Amethu.
As per PHB p.10, Amethu and Kiri each must roll versus % chance to know spell. Please include the spell name in the macro. Don't forget about your maximum number of spells. Failure means you can't get the hang of the spell. It doesn't impact anyone else's chance to learn. Good luck!
And please let me know if you have any more questions.

I mean, technically, wearing the Helm of Uthoth, Kiri can understand it.

I posted about not having ink before reading this behind the scenes chatter, but if we're going to fast-track the spell learning, that's great. Would we both have to share this book, then? Amethu can carry it.

My rolls to possibly learn each spell (this is very exciting):
ESP: Chance to Learn New Spell (70%): [1d100]=33
