[003] Into the War Camp
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Hearing the voice call out in the direction of the door Ha and Kobi were facing, Toshizo runs into the room, his steeps in his heavy armor drumming on the tatami. "Now is not the time for subtlety or caution," he thinks. "We must surprise them and kill them quickly." He runs to the door to the southwest, rapidly slides it open and runs in, looking right and left for the nearest opponent for a katana strike.
Partially encumbered - BAP 5, BMA 5 x 2 Running = 10 yds. If there are any apparent bandits in the next room, he'll run to the nearest one and stop at Medium (katana) range. Whether the nearest one is sitting, prone, or otherwise, he'll run toward him.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Ha moves into the room, determined to butcher the sleepers as efficiently as possible. Ha will move to the sleeper nearest him and slice him open while he sleeps.
BCS= 12+ 1(good blade) + plus a huge amount for sleeping target
[1d20]=18 Assume this is a hit (perhaps a noisy one)
Damage 1d6+2 (katana)+1 (blade)+3 (strength)
[1d6+6]=3+6=9

Just confirming that actions for Ha and Toshizo have already been posted.

Blessings remaining before sunset:
Ha: 2
Eiji: 1
Kentaro: 1 (on turn 5)
(I really do want you to follow the Fog of War rules. You split the party and I'm using the spoilers to help you.)
Toshi, Taka, Eiji:
Toshizo's move is entirely a reaction to the observations of Ha in the other group, and not to input Toshizo had. Because the NPCs get to act before you, I will work to have their actions incorporate your action and have it make sense. Please react to what's happening here - it takes an action to Give Orders to share information between groups.
The trio stand for a moment in the quiet entryway, no sound or movement within the house to indicate the bandits are preparing for the dawning day ahead.
"Hai! Who are you?" a surprised voice calls from further inside the house. "Up! Up, all of you!"
Eiji turns and places a hand on Toshizo's arm. "May the everlasting Buddha look kindly upon you as you act with honor," the buddhist tells him. Eiji then drops, kneeling on the floor mats and beginning to pray. Jīva sits obediently at his side in the entryway.
"Now is not the time for subtlety or caution," Toshizo thinks. "We must surprise them and kill them quickly." The Bushi breaks into a run, crossing the entry room and opening the sliding door on the far wall...
Beyond the door, Toshizo sees a 30' hallway, two sliding doors indicating rooms on the right side, one double door on the left side. At the end of the hallway is an opening, indicating a turn to the left. The sounds of commotion are head behind the double door on the left side.
The second door further down the right side stands open, a man in the nagagi of a poor samurai already having stepped into the hallway, his katana and wakizashi wielded in each hand. Toshizo, focused on entering battle, steps towards the samurai before him. "You will not live to regret this mistake!" says the other man, bringing his katana in an upward arc, sliding easily under Toshizo's armor and slicing painfully into his side (-7hp).
We pause here at Phase 2. Taka gets to act here on the first round, then we start at the top of the order for the next round. [/ooc
OOC:
Ha, Kobi:
"Up! Up, all of you!" yell the first man at the table. The slumbering men begin to awaken at the call to arms from their commander.
The other officer, sword in hand, charges across the room towards Kobi. The officer brings around his katana in a powerful arc, but Kobi dodges back out of the way, the blade passing merely an inch in front of his nose. Kobi steps to the side as the man comes at him, positioning in the man's flank, and stabs him fiercely with his yari in the shoulder. He then pulls it out and stabs again, this time a glancing blow.
While the officer near the table continue to shout urgently to get his men to rise, Ha steps forward and executes the man closest to the door - the bandit never made it to his feet, still partially shrouded in his blanket which slowly stains red from the gushing blood.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Giving you a chance to specify action knowing what happened before you in the round. You'll go (end of this round), then can also declare for next round. You're just inside the entry room and within 10 yards (30 ft) from the fight between Toshizo and NPC Officer #3 in the hallway.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Taka will start across the room (3 yards movement). Next round she will continue (and then at least should be close enough to the doorway to observe farther in) unless someone bursts through the doorway in which case she will throw shuriken instead.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo felt the pain of his first wound in real combat. It was like the pain of accidentally cutting one's finger, except on a hugely greater scale. He slashed at the bandit with his katana and brought his wakizashi forward to parry.
I assumed (maybe mistakenly) that in the quiet house, Toshizo could hear the officer yell out in the other room. Thus he ran toward the sound of the voice.
Character sheet marked with lethal damage taken. Toshizo is using ni-to-kenjutsu defensively, so +1 to AC.
Kenjutsu BCS 12 [1d20]=4 Katana [1d6+2]=2+2=4
Parry (kenjutsu Raw BCS 11) [1d20]=20 Critical failure, no bonus to AC.

Is there a round 2 action for Ha?

Okay. I was using spoilers to help you with Fog of War. The guy didn't start yelling until the next round and I wanted Toshizo to be able to react authentically on round 1 to the room he was actually seeing. I didn't expect an argument, or for you to ignore a request that you honor spoilered text. I'll just post openly and it is on you to ignore what you should not know if you're not in the same rooms/fights. I apologize for the confusion.
Toshi, Taka, Eiji:
Eiji remains kneeling in prayer in the entry room, eyes closed. Next to him, Jīva tilts his head curiously, watching the humans run past. Taka walks calmly across the room (9' of 20') towards the now-open doorway where Toshizo can be seen, locked in battle.
Toshizo steels himself against the pain of his first true combat wound; his own katana blow going wide. The officer's blade, now slicked with Toshizo's blood, comes around again in a nimble strike, slicing across the cheek as Toshizo fails to bring up his wakizashi in time. (-6hp) Toshizo is quick to ripost, his training now kicking in, and the heavily-armored samurai slices through the sleeve of his opponent's pajamas (-4) causing the man's next blow to miss.
Taka walks up behind Toshizo as this happens (18' of 20'), the calm-faced high class samurai woman standing serene behind the armored Toshizo as he wounds his foe. (1 yard to Toshizo, 3 yards to officer)
OOC:
Ha, Kobi:
You didn't post rolls, so I'll roll for you.
The bandits are roused, hopping to their feet and tossing away blankets. One of them lies dead at Ha's feet, ten others now look on him and Kobi with malice. The first officer brandishes his katana and charges across the room at where Ha stands.
Kobi doesn't wait, stabbing the officer a third time (-4). The man then pivots to face Kobi and step in to bring to bear an overhead katana blow, but Kobi moves to the side. The officer has left himself wide open and Kobi's spear slashes his abdomen, releasing the officer's bowels from his flesh as he collapses to the floor. (-10)
Ha moves with efficiency, stepping over the dead bandit and slicing the next (now standing) bandit with his blade. (-7) The bandit screams and collapses, holding his bleeding chest as his shirt soaks red with his blood. The remaining nine bandits scurry for their own blades, picking up a mix of katana and yari that were around the room, turning to face the armored Ha and unarmored Kobi with no time to don armor themselves. The first officer reaches Ha after the second bandit is already slain, bringing his katana around in an angry blow that misses Ha completely.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Taka will take an observe action to see (and listen to) what else is going on, and evaluate if she has a clean shot with shuriken, ideally at a different target than the man Toshi is fighting.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo realizes that he had underestimated the bandit's fighting ability. And that he'd made a mistake trying to parry his strikes, rather than cutting him down as quickly as possible. He executes part of a ni-to-kenjutsu kata, striking with his katana and wakizashi almost simultaneously.
Double ni-to-kenjutsu attack this phase, so any opponent's attack BCS is at +1 until Toshi's BAP next turn.
1st attack - katana (BCS 12 -1) [1d20]=20[1d6+2]=3+2=5 Oh no....
2nd attack - wakizashi (BCS 12/2 = 6 -1 =5) [1d20]=9[1d6]=4
Critical Failure - [1d20]=11
Attacker loses his balance. He suffers a Daze Special Effect and must make a Speed Saving Throw or fall down.
Partial encumbrance Speed =15 /3 = 5 +1 (level) = 6. [1d20]=1 That's not where I needed that 1 roll.
Daze Special Effect - I found this on p. 65. Target Dazed. Target forfeits next Available Action Phase.
Ni-To-Kenjutsu
The character is allowed the option of a "double attack." Each of
the attacks is at a -1 modifier in addition to other situation modifiers.
The attack with the primary weapon has the normal Base BCS value
while the attack with the secondary weapon is at one half the Base
BCS value.
Use of the double attack leaves the user vulnerable. Beginning on
the Action Phase in which the character makes the double attack and
continuing until the same Action Phase on the following Detailed
Turn, all attacks directed at the character receive a +1 to their BCS.

Toshi, Taka, Eiji:
Eiji remains kneeling in prayer in the entry room, eyes closed. Next to him, Jīva tilts his head curiously, watching the humans run past.
Toshizo's skill at arms avails him and he deflects two powerful blows of his samurai opponent. The heavily armored bushi goes on a full-out attack, trying to push forward with his momentum and strike with both blades. Unfortunately, his opponent evades skillfully and it is Toshizo who is thrown off balance, stumbling forward and falling to the floor in the hallway! (critical fumble, lose round 4 action)
Taka stands calmly in the doorway between the officer and the entry room where Eiji kneels in prayer. She steps over and pushes open the sliding door on the left wall, allowing her to fully observe the situation. She can see themixed emotions on the face of the ronin before her in the hallway - he is confident in his position to kill Toshizo on the floor at his feet but the presence of a clean, well-dressed noble woman a mere two yards from him rattles him with uncertainty. Through the doorway, she can clearly see the pitched battle looking utterly inauspicious... seven men surrounding and stabbing Kobi, who is stunned, woozy, and with blood running in his eyes while Ha stands against two others, only four bodies on the floor around them.
OOC:
Ha, Kobi:
The second officer bleeding-out at his feet, Kobi advances through the bandit rabble and flanks the other officer who threatens Ha. The officer, with Kobi and Ha on opposite facings, is in a dire position and Kobi slices deeply into his flesh with his spear (-9). The officer shrugs it off and maintains his focus on Ha, bringing around the blade of his katana in a vicious strike against Ha's unarmored sword arm (5x2=10, critical hit).
The bandits swiftly move to turn the tide, ganging up on the unarmored Kobi rather than the armored Samurai Ha. Two come to the aid of the leader, cutting at Ha from either side (one in each flank facing, -3, -4). The other seven surround Kobi, striking at him from all directions! One blow to his head slices the think scalp and exposes the white bone beneath, the blood running into his eyes leaving him momentarily stunned and distracted. Two other blades slice him in his weakness (-8,-8, -6)
Mindful of the number of blades he faces over the skill of the ronin before him, Ha pivots and strikes the bandit to his side, felling the man with a single, mighty blow (-10, dead). He is focused and deadly, parrying the second strikes from both his remaining opponents.
Wiping blood from his eyes and trying to clear his head, Kobi tries to block as best he can but is significantly disadvantaged against the seven men who assail him in a pitched battle and now bleeds from several more wounds, woozy and barely still on his feet. (-8, -3).
OOC:
Both Toshizo and Kobi are stunned in round 4, so I need actions for Taka and Ha. (Toshizo can free roleplay as he spends the round getting off the floor. )
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo momentarily panics has he tumbles to the floor. "One downward stroke and I am no more!" But his training engages and somewhat calms him. "I must stand, and quickly!"
Just so I understand about moving in combat to side or rear facings. When Toshizo's combat with Officer #3 started, they were Engaged and in each other's Front facing. Could either move to the other's side facing during their phase and still attack?
