The Knife

The Knife tut-tuts for a while, as he searches for a way to loosen the glass plug.

Darklin

Seeing Feanol's lifeless body drop he moves to grab her and stop any further blood loss. Using his cloak to stop the bleeding to her head where she just bounced off the stone floor.

Elnaerel do you have any healing left. She is in bad shape.

Elnaerel

Elnaerel doesn't wait a second to rush towards Feanol, put her hands on her and mutter some words to her goddess.

"Elehnestra will help us yet twice today, but let's hope for Keyon to arrive... Besides, we need water and only she can provide us with that at the moment. I'll have to save my prayings.

Do you feel better, Feanol?"

Keyon
With Feanol safely above (or so he hopes) with their comrades, Keyon turns a coldly malevolent gaze upon the ghostly creature.

"I value very little in this life,"
he murmurs as if speaking to himself. "My own wasted existence least of all." Keyon takes a few steps closer, training the brilliant gem upon the creature while glancing around the room and at his feet in hopes of avoiding potential traps or ambush.

"But for some reason I can't explain, I value her. The lovely smile. The sharp tongue. The flickers of genuine kindness she inspires in me." Keyon smiles faintly, but it soon fades; his dark eyes harden. "And you would take her from me?" He steps abruptly toward the box and tugs at the lid.

"Then I will take something of yours."

The Horror Below
Starday, 27th of Goodmonth
Early Afternoon, Sunny, Hot, Breezy

Leaving Keg at the trap door, Darklin and Elnaerel quickly move to help the fallen Feanol, the cleric healing her back to consciousness as keg continues to struggle with the stone hatch in the floor.

TK uses his picks to deftly pry the glass plug back out of the hole in the floor for a second time. A stream of cool air rises up through the hole along with a musty smell of undeath. When he looks at the small item in his hand, he finds that it looks quite familiar to him. (Normal Int. check, please)

Information for Paladin ONLY please!!!
Keyon is glad to see the woman of his affections suddenly disappear from the symbol, hoping she is now safely above with the others who clearly didn't follow him down here. The elf continues to keep the undead monster in the corner at bay with his bright gem, moving closer to the box and flipping open the long lid effortlessly. Inside, he finds what appears to be a row of several small ivory plaques, 35 in total, all positioned snugly within their box. A warning of some kind is written in common inside the box lid: Pick A Card, Any Card, But Only One Card Each, Unless Instructed Otherwise. (I will take a d35 roll if he decides to take a pick from the plaques.)

The monster grumbles and hisses as the lid is opened, but stays right where it is, hiding its face from the intense light rays of the gem. Keyon notices that the light shrouding the figure in the chair with the box on its lap suddenly fluctuates. When he looks up at the hole in the ceiling, he sees the bright green eyeball of the gnome looking down at him through the tiny opening.

Feanol

"Elnaerel, thank the gods you've come. Max & Gnodric can beat and choke you, but stay away from that spirit he can drain the life from you. His touch is icy cold, and can turn you into the same beasts that those two have become." She begins to set up, but feels too weak still and lays back down.

Elnaerel

"No, Feanol. I haven't come in looking for you. You made it out of that place! You must have stepped on another carving, right, Darklin?

... Keyon. He's down there. He's looking for you. I'm saving a healing for him. And will pray later for water for today. Stay here and rest."

She goes back to the trapdoor with Keg and brings a rope out of her sack. "We can use this."

Keyon
For the moment, noise and intrusion from above are allowed to pass without remark.

"Godly power..." Keyon repeats the phrase with an avaricious gleam in his eyes. He scans the ivory plaques, his pulse thumping at the high-stakes game of chance. "Or certain death." He takes a plaque and turns it over in his hand.

"A man lives but once, and I have lived more than most. Let us see what fate decrees."

If nothing happens right away, he'll head to the chariot and back to his comrades, sending the spectral entity a final glance as he plants both feet upon the symbol.

The Horror Above?
Starday, 27th of Goodmonth
Early Afternoon, Sunny, Hot, Breezy

The recently revived Feanol warns Elnaerel about the horrible capabilities of the spectre Assamuk, unaware that she is currently safe from the undead atrocity that surely would have killed her and made her his own if not for the incredible bravery and foolhardiness of Keyon. Who incidentally, is still trapped below with said horror.

The trio of Keg, Darklin, and Elnaerel use a rope they cinched around the hammered spike so all three of them can yank on the hatch together. TK watches as his friends eventually force the stone floor cover open about half way. The smell of damp, musty death immediately escapes from the now open hatch, as does a sharp blast of frigid, stale air. A bright light can be seen shining from somewhere below.

Information for Paladin ONLY please!!!
As soon as Keyon looks at his pick from the box of plaques…

…he immediately feels a portion of his knowledge and memory fade from existence. Blinking away the extremely uncomfortable sensation, his partially shattered mind suddenly comes to the realization that he must draw yet another mystical plaque from the box. (I need a d4 roll and a d34 roll, please.) :?

The monster continues hissing and grumbling as the card is drawn, still hiding from the bright light in its corner. He mockingly laughs once the results of the card become known to him, just before his attention is suddenly drawn elsewhere in the room. Keyon sees a light appear, coming from a square opening in the dark ceiling several feet above him and to his left. Assamuk immediately starts floating towards the opening with his face shielded by his arms.

All Keyon can do is draw another ivory card, the magic of the plaques compelling him to do so.

Keyon
Grimacing at the painful sensation inside his mind, Keyon answers the urging of cruel fate and withdraws a second card.

If the power is left him and he sees Assamuk moving toward his comrades, he will cry out "Close the door!" and leap onto the transporter.

If not...well...I shall await further instruction. :?
