How good a driver is Camp Freddie? Can he shoot a .5?
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Do they still have the Ma Deuce?BackworldTraveller wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 5:48 pm How good a driver is Camp Freddie? Can he shoot a .5?

Well, it will be good to have a Veteran of the unit's pervious actions on hand to provide a bit of unit history and panache. I seem to have recruited from the bottom of the social scale and having Camp Freddie would be good.
Has anyone written the guy's bio yet?

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
I can't find much on Freddie beyond his name in my notes, I'm afraid. Same for most of the original troopers. They all had Rifle 1, which is now Rifle 2.
Looking at the new unit personnel and kit lists it seems we have everything but the kitchen sink.
So...
How about a Goulash Cannon with a Water-Burner to crew it? Just think, our own field-kitchen, and a bod with an NVQ in Catering. Freshly boiled bread, piping hot ice-cream, and all the soup sandwiches we can eat, right where the action is

He's not trained on the Ma Deuce but could fire it untrained (but not whilst driving).
With Grav Vehicle 1 he is a proper driver and might have some specific (JoT style) expertise as an ex Collace "wheelsman"/getaway driver. I'm sure you've seen the film...

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Looking good.
Unfortunately....
Jess' IFV only has 4 non-crew seats, not 8, because we fitted the PD VRF-Gauss
Edit
Sorry, I forgot that. It just struck me as I looked at the size of the new squad.
So we need to find a home for the people Jakob used to command....
It might be best to keep Jakob's squad as was, in 4.1, and have the Recon Grav-Belted, with a ride-along on Jakobs G-Carrier as needed. Until we acquire another ride.

And miss out on your Compo Rations???The Bindoner wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 7:52 pm How about a Goulash Cannon with a Water-Burner to crew it? No Biscuits AB, Apple Flakes, Tinned Bacon Grill and Iranian Mars Bars???
If you feed folk proper food then you'll only have to start digging latrines!
Stick with Compo - see what I did there?

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
As an addendum to skills I think the Grav Technician needs Gravitics to fit the job description.
So Demo 1, Cbt Eng 1, Gravitics 1 ???
No loss of skill base just don't have him setting charges / clearing mines in a hurry or under fire...

We'd need a Fang-Farrier too, no doubt.
I'd re-purposed the Grav Tech entirely to the Sapper role, but you're right, we do need a guy to work on the lifters...As an addendum to skills I think the Grav Technician needs Gravitics to fit the job description.

Hate to lose the Demo 2. It's a skill where you really need a 3 before you use it.
Perhaps the Sparks could be Elec 2 Grav 1? Give the driver Grav Vehicle 2/Mech 1 and we're squared away.
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Please fit in the Gravitics however suits - but you do need it.The Bindoner wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 8:59 pm I'd re-purposed the Grav Tech entirely to the Sapper role, but you're right, we do need a guy to work on the lifters...

Query: Is having Demo 2 better/more immediate than having Cbt Eng 1???
Maybe that's the sort of thing an "Officer of Engineers" would have... ?
As to Demo Skill (or "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!") my view is it only risks critical failure when doing something exceptionally dangerous (otherwise anyone handling explosives as a career would surely be killed by the certainty of continual "Russian Roulette"). Explosives are safe unless...
Risky examples would be: any "assault pioneer" task under fire, doing hasty demolition tasks, resetting failed charges, defusing other folk's charges, using explosives that look like ripe gorgonzola, using your Ordnance Disposal course to adjust someone's IED so it goes off not on the command wire but when they return to check why it didn't explode, etc
Mundane would include: building a charge at leisure for a specific known task (shaped or frame charge), handling and storing explosives and ordnance, making "idiot proof" satchel charges for other's use (they might place them wrongly but won't shouldn't blow themselves up)...

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
There are 9 troopers in Kit's 8-seater.
Jess has the right number, but the wrong people. Charlie, Harry, King and Mike are her guys. And now Sugar.
Oh, and I think Freya is taking Freddie as driver/protection.
Other than that, looks good.

But... Those are exactly the things we hired him to do!Risky examples would be: any "assault pioneer" task under fire, doing hasty demolition tasks, resetting failed charges, defusing other folk's charges, using explosives that look like ripe gorgonzola, using your Ordnance Disposal course to adjust someone's IED so it goes off not on the command wire but when they return to check why it didn't explode, etc
I'm leery of explosives, had bad experiences in a previous game. A PC went out to failed roll early on and another nearly did later, but we sent an equally skilled NPC in his place.
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
In Jess' IFV, she needs one of those four seats, so she can only have three others with her.The Bindoner wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 10:28 pm There are 9 troopers in kit's 8-seater.

I'm assuming Commander, Gunner and Driver have positions designed in and the four/eight seats are the self-loading cargo.by joertexas » Wed Jun 23, 2021 11:43 pm

If Freya takes Freddie, what happens to "Florence"?
Joe Roberts (JR)
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
I'm good with "accommodating" Jess' fire team in the PD vehicle and she takes the Commander position.
Florence will still fit in the Technical - it's the bigger version air raft with seats plus some cargo capacity.
