The hideous lizard/bird hybrid quickly dives at Talmond's face... but meets the steel shield of the well-armored fighting man instead. It shakes its head, momentarily dazed.

Talmond quickly capitalizes on the moment, swinging his blade and slicing through a small section of the creature's left wing.

"Thrice-damned lizard chicken..." Thrydwulf mutters amidst a string of epithets and curses. "...and nobody got the candlesticks."

Rumple is no match physically against the Thrydwulf, who tosses his growler at the goblin and "repositions" their guide away from the doorway and into the corner. "Ass." Rumple groans after recovering from having the wind knocked out of him.

The massive human brings his crossbow up and aims around the corner of the doorway, risking the creature looking at him, and lets loose a bolt that pierces the same wing Talmond struck an instant earlier.

Luthar and Gulnur assemble in the hallway behind Thrydwulf, prepared to join the fray should the opportunity present itself.

Seeing the lizard? bird?- take flight, Vinwrick drops his sword and gathers his bow, getting a quick shot off at the creature, but his arrow sails just over its mark as the spastic creature bobs up and down with the frantic flapping of its wings.

Tova remains camped in the corner and reflexively brings the verbal and somatic components of his trusted Sacred Flame spell to mind, sending a flame-like radiance down on the flying abomination eliciting a pained squawk!

Seeing the creature fly outside, Vinwrick quickly moves to the window, latching it closed to prevent a return. "Are you ok, Talmond?" he asks, though all evidence suggests that to be the case as the wounded party member is already kneeling over and scavenging through the hybrid bird's nest for anything of value.

In addition to dining implements -- forks, regular knives, broken plate, a wooden cup -- Talmond begins to find scraps of vellum and scraps of parchment that appear as of they've been passed through a shredder. The fighting man can't say whether there's any significance to them, but some of the strips look as if they might contain writing, and symbols.
