So he only gets BMA / 2 (3 / 2) which should be 2 since it doesn't specify round down.Close To Engage: This Option allows Unengaged characters to move up to one-half their Base Movement Allowance in yards and execute an attack on the same Action Phase.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Ah, you're right ffilz, don't know how I missed the one-half BMA part. So Taisho ends up 3 yards from the NPC, Extra Long range, -1. BCS 7 -1 +5 = 11. Minus the o-bake's AC3 = 8.
For the second strike (if any): Half the first BCS and -1. 4 -1 = 3.
We're getting there. It takes a village to learn Bushido....

I'll just take the one strike so I can parry, looks like a hit:
For 3 subdual damage (Bo is 1d6(s)).

Unarmored Taisho, in his fine pants, shirt, and belt of peasant cotton, turned and closed on the tall o-bakemono. A bojutsu thrust of his pilgrim's staff digs its bronze-shod tip into the thing's left side.

Bo is listed in the weapons chart as damage D6,S, looking up, S is for subdual (L is for lethal).jemmus wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 9:45 pm Unarmored Taisho, in his fine pants, shirt, and belt of peasant cotton, turned and closed on the tall o-bakemono. A hit and 3 damage. I don't see that bo or bojutsu do Subdual damage, but I'll check again.
Turn 2 is coming up. In this case the NPCs have the highest BAPs, except for Katsumi. There's not much Katsumi can do this turn except continue running. So I'll post the NPCs' actions, the you can post the PCs' actions. (I think it makes sense that the PCs' would decide on their actions in reaction to what the NPCs do first).[/spoiler]
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Turn 2
It's club whipped away into the woods, the eyes of the warty tan bakemono-sho widen and its lower face... grimaces? It's hard to tell what thoughts are playing in the thing's slow mind. It bounds away into the woods, toward the direction of where its weapon might have flown.
The great red creature with the strange unearthly scent very briefly turned its massive long-haired head toward Taisho and gave him a sidelong glance. It leaned forward toward Ito again, raised its great club overhead, and aimed a crude overhand blow at the smaller ronin's Ito's body. It lands on the side of Ito's heavy iron kabuto helmet. The kabuto neatly channels the weapon's downward energy onto the outside of his sode shoulder plates, which further direct the force downward toward the ground. The club's head strikes the earth of the forest floor, and Ito and Taisho feel a tremor through the loam through the soles of their feet.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Thanks Frank. O-bakemono to 3HP damage. When it hits 0HP it will be down, but not dead. The PCs can dispatch it, or otherwise.ffilz wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 11:09 pmBo is listed in the weapons chart as damage D6,S, looking up, S is for subdual (L is for lethal).jemmus wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 9:45 pm Unarmored Taisho, in his fine pants, shirt, and belt of peasant cotton, turned and closed on the tall o-bakemono. Turn 2
All PCs, please post you char's Actions. If you have more than one, please post all of them. If the situation changes along the way, you'll be able to adjust. The bake have already done their Actions. The rest of the Turn is all for PCs, It ought to be quick to Turn 3.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Kentaro is running to save his horse.
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Looks like at the bottom of the turn Taisho will have another hit since even if he no longer gets the +5 for side, the 2 still hits (and no chance of a critical unless something has pumped his BCS up to 15...)
Damage
Clearly Taisho heeded the instruction of the temple weapons master well...

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
The o-bakemono is so focused on the armored bushi that it didn't change facing. So it's still a +5 attack from the side. The low Wit thing may have underestimated Taisho.
As you said, no crit. The roll of 2 is higher than 10% of the BCS of 8.
Under normal circumstances, ie. when the Adjusted BCS is
greater than 1, a BCS die roll of less than or equal to 10% of the
Adjusted BCS indicates a Critical Success, or a die roll of 1 in any
case. Thus, a character with a score of 2-14 scores a Critical Success
on a die of 1. If the Adjusted BCS is 15 to 24, a die roll of 1 or 2 is a
Critical Success, as 15/10, rounded nearest, is 2, as with all numbers
in the range to 24. An Adjusted BCS of 25 to 34 receives a Critical
Success on a 1, 2. or 3, and so on.

In Turn 2:
Nothing eventful happens to the three PCs running toward the fight.
Kentaro - Running toward the fight and his horse.
Taisho - Has done his Action for this turn.
Omi - Is "pre-programmed" with if-then actions. (Will move to point blank range and start loosing arrows, unless approached by hostiles. Then will use iaijutsu). No need to post.
Katsumi - Will assume is still running to the fight, unless posts otherwise.
Ito - Please post for both of your Action Phases.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Turn 2
Ito, Taisho
No sooner had the end of the o-bakemono's club hit the ground than the bushi's katana slashed across its hard, broad belly. The thing grunts. From the side, Taisho strike the back of its head with a hard swinging blow of his staff. He quickly brings the bo back to a defensive position.
Katsumi, Kentaro, Omi
The quick ninja fairly flies up the moonlit mountain trail, the two armored bushi running up it behind him. Omi carries his dai-kyu at the ready.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Turn 3
The wounded o-bake steps back with its leg, so that it is has the armored bushi in front to the right and the bo-wielder to the front left. Apparently it takes Taisho more seriously now. It tries another overhand swing at Ito, but the ronin's strong armor again deflects the blow. There is no sign of the departed bakemono-sho, other than possibly the sound some yards away of heavy feet moving in the quickly away through the woods.
Ito and Taisho - Actions please.
Katsumi, Kentaro - Please post something when you're ready. We don't want to get too far ahead without letting you check in.
Omi - Still following the if/then instructions. But you're welcome to post as well, of course.

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Still running...
The horse is still tied up and unharmed at this point, right?
Any chance the bakemono-sho is running in my direction that Katsumi/I/Omi can intercept him?

Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Can I take a step (1 yard) to the side to continue to gain the +5?
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Yes. You'd have to change facing to the left to attack. That would be your 2 yards of movement. So still Extra Long range. Or you could use your full 3 yards and have no attack.
PCs
Re: 1st Scroll - The Will of Nobles
Hmm, since I'm engaged, I only get 1 yard of movement.
Trying to understand how this all works... I haven't played games that charged movement for facing changes...
