Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Tarrin pulled himself to his feet, drawing his massive sword as he moved. The night was coming into focus; at least as much as it would for a mere human. And there seemed to be a distinct lack of creatures running toward him trying to claw his face off. "Is that it?"

OOC: Unless Greystone can get a final shot off, I guess it is...
In case he is able to get one last arrow off...
To Hit, Shortbow [1d20+3] = 19+3 = 22
Damage, Flight Arrow [1d6] = 2

If the last arrow doesn't finish off the hobgoblin, and it looks like he can catch it, Greystone will draw his scimitar and take off after it with the intent of chasing it down and killing it. He is afraid the creature might just be a part of a scouting party and could tell others of their whereabouts.
Or, if he and Darkstar are able to get another shot off before it is out of range, then maybe that is what they should do... Either way, he doesn't want it to get away.
When that is done, he will attempt arrow recovery.
Arrow Recovery (5 hits, 1 crit) [1d4-1] = 3-1 = 2

Darkstar's parting shot narrowly misses, but Greystone strikes the fleeing hobgoblin in the middle of the back, killing it. It's almost time for third watch and you have six dead hobgoblins lying about.

Greystone quickly examines the bodies for anything of value. He turns to Tarrin and asks, "Are you rested enough for your watch, Tarrin? If not, I can continue and you should get some more sleep, if you can..."

Darkstar also helps examine the bodies and says to Greystone Cousin if they tracked us to here we shouldn't wait for more to find us. Let us get moving with haste.
Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
"Agreed," Tarrin said. "And even if they were an isolated group, their corpses will draw scavengers. I have a nearly full memory of spells, I will not be less effective if we move." He grimaced. "Well, no more than anyone after a night march on almost no sleep. But better tired than dead."

Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Darkstar hits Tarrin on the shoulder and smiles. Cousin if you take the lead we will follow. I will keep an eye to the back.
Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Greystone nods and quickly packs up his meagre camp supplies and mounts up.
After the bodies are looted, Greystone will lead the party on towards their destination of Neverwinter Woods.

Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Searching the bodies of the hobgoblins garnishes 30 copper and 15 gold (and 70 xp each). Most of their weapons and gear are in good condition. Likely they are a patrol from the Crags, which is littered with hobgoblins, trolls, and various other evil creatures.
Riding into the night, Greystone leads you toward Neverwinter Woods, traveling as fast as safely possible in the darkness. When you reach the Crags just before dawn, you see the ruins of a small manor off to your right. The horses are tired and so are you.
Do you push on? Or visit the abandoned manor?

Greystone points out the manor to the others and says,"The horses are beat. We could use a rest, ourselves..."

Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
A weary Darkstar nods I agree. We all need a rest.
Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Tarrin shakes his head at Greystone's suggestion. "True, we're tired. But I don't like the look of that manor. Any number of beasts could be lairing in its ruins. Let us see if we can find a place to camp where we can keep a discrete eye on it, but that is out of its sight. Perhaps when we are less exhausted we can see what it holds."
Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Greystone nods and begins looking for a sheltered grove of trees or suitable natural shelter where they might rest until sun up.

Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Finding shelter in the Crags is not too difficult and after a few minutes, Greystone picks out a copse of hickory and oak trees on a slight rise that offers a good view of the trail below and the manor house. You unsaddle your horses and make a quick camp, settling in to the woods, blending into the shadowy darkness.
Darkstar is on watch as the eastern sky begins to lighten...and his sharp eyes catch movement at the manor house. A trio of short creatures with reddish skin wearing dark leathers, hobble out of a hole in the wall at the back of the house. One turns and pisses against the side of the house, while the other two look toward the northwest, pointing and jabbering quietly. A few seconds pass and Darkstar sees two huge wolves (figure they are worgs), coming out of the hills and up to the manor house. Each worg carries one of the smaller figures. The two figures dismount and the other three greet them - they talk for a minute or two and then all five and the worgs disappear inside the manor.

Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Darkstar slowly moves back to camp, in case any any eyes are watching from the manor. Once in camp he quietly wakes his two companions. Two worgs and 5 riders, short with redish skin, at the manor. I do not believe they are aware of our presence.
Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
Greystone opens his eyes and is immediately up and alert, as if he hadn't just been sleeping a minute earlier.
"Worgs? Maybe a raiding party? Red-skinned worg riders are sure to be goblins of some type..."Greystone doesn't say anything further, but he gives the impression that he doesn't want to circle around this group and avoid confrontation.
A little concerned about what happened with his bracelet (or, rather, what didn't) and the hobgoblins last night, Greystone closes his eyes and concentrates, digging his fingers into the nearby grasses, and attempts to communicate with the plants at his feet.
He asks them if they can tell him anything about the red-skinned devils walking the nearby lands...

Re: Neverwinter Woods - Spring 1358 DR
"And this is why you don't camp in strange ruins at night," Tarrin said quietly, his eyes still closed. Maybe he should add that to the Windrider's liturgy.
Sighing, he opened his eyes and rolled upright. He pulled on his holy symbol and spent a little while praying to regain the few spells he'd used the previous day. Then he stood. "Well, I suppose we should do something about them, shouldn't we?"
