"Two hours in the shade still means 6 hours in the worst heat. We need to leave much closer to the time the temperature starts to drop. Then we walk until we get there and figure out a rest period then. Spells are nice but we can't kill ourselves to be slaves to them."

"Good call, Knife! Let's rest tonight over there too then. We can still advance a lot during the late afternoon and evening."

Under The Not So Scorching Sunset
Freeday, 26th of Goodmonth
Early Evening, Partly Cloudy, Warm, Humid, Breezy

Feanol thinks it a bad idea to leave the meager shade they have constructed until much later in the day, when the sun is not so intense, convincing Keg to agree with her. Despite the concerns from a few others, the group stays put where they are, moving their cover along with the suns path, as the afternoon passes. They sleep and eat, sweating out all the water they drink in the heat of the afternoon, but their reddening skin is not burned any worse, thanks to staying under cover.

Once the sun starts to get close to the horizon again, sometime around early evening, their leader suggests it is time to depart this place. TK rolls up his sticks in the tarp, leaving them behind in case they need them again tomorrow. As they set out, they are treated to a dazzling sunset in the distance where the sky and the ocean meet....

but when they look back towards the swampy area they left earlier this morning, the elves in the group see more of the same specks in the sky that appear to be heading towards them.

The Knife

The Knife shoots a nasty glare at the hilt of his sword. "That's the last time I listen to your advice, 'Mr-Stay-Here-They-Won't-Come-Back'. "

Staying low (even for a gnome) behind the rock, The Knife grabs the bundle of wood and starts to quickly rebuild his shelter. "Can't throw a net on me under here", he gasps as he works.

"Oh, no, they're back. Just when we were about to leave." And then she mutters something as she gets her sling ready again.

I'm not sure if it matters, but the "specks" are a good mile away at this point. Only the elves can see them.

Plenty of time to do something other than hide or ready weapons.

Keg squints and shakes his head. Well, I can't see anything... That means we have time to prepare or get away. I'm not keen on running, nowhere to go really, and we just fight tired. What do we have that we can make a fire with? I have the rags I have been holding onto... We could make a lot of smoke with that, but it will probably not last long. Come on, ideas.

Darklin

I have 2 flasks of oil and a hooded lantern. How about some flame arrows? I made 10 for the Pirates but never got he chance to use them. Shoot their nets and set them on fire.

He drops to the ground and starts pulling the lantern, Flint and Steel and all 10 of the flame arrows from the quiver. Starts to light the lantern.

Max

We could drop ropes over the side and slide down to the beach below. It would give us a better defensive position.

I'm kind of stumped right now. OM's description says it's breezy, so I'm not sure how long smoke from fires will last.

I did think of suggesting that we build some fires and that the MU's cast Affect Normal Fires to increase the effects of the smoke. But I don't think we have the fuel for that.

The MU's could cast Enlarge on a few people. Maybe if they see that their targets won't fit in their nets they might leave. Also, wouldn't Enlarge cause more damage and give longer range? If they get hit with boulders and ballista bolts instead of slingstones and arrows they might have second thoughts.

"They're still far away, but in this place it won't make any difference to move or stay, like The Kinfe said. I think we better get something ready to avoid being catched by those nets. But what?

I have an oil flask too, if that helps."

Oil, arrows, and rags are readied while a few good ideas are presented on how to deal with the oncoming threat.

As they continue to watch the far off specks in the sky, the elves notice that they eventually appear to to veer off towards the the east, no longer flying straight for the party's location. They appear to be heading cross-country over the larger land mass of rock in the "crabs claw", though still in the same general direction that the party is heading.

The sun drops a bit closer to the horizon, allowing even more relief from its rays and signaling the oncoming night.

Keg

Grumbles a little and squints but sees nothing. I don't like it... Do you think they might be meaning to flank us? Or come in from another direction when the sun goes down and they are less visible? All of you can see in the dark, right?

Keyon

The elf has remained silent, watching the beasts in the far distance. He finally shrugs and readies himself to move. "We'll not find out by staying here," he muses aloud. "Let's go. Yes, I can see in the dark. "

The Knife

The Knife breathes out heavily and wipes his brow when he hears the threat is heading away from them. "That was close...Do you think those things can fly after dark?" Then he starts to take down the shelter he was rebuilding.

When he's done, The Knife shoulders his gear again. "I'm glad to be rid of that extra weight. Let's hope we make good time for the next few hours."

"I'm not sure they are a major concern now, as they seem to be going somewhere specific. I would think most likely we were seen as too tough, and they're moving on to other things. Also, I don't think Wasps are night flyers, so I'd suspect a night ambush of us would be pretty tough for them to pull off and by their path IF that was their objective they think we kept moving. So lets get going and we elves can keep a distant watch on so that we have any warning of approaching problems."

Darklin

I agree let get moving. if we keep a good pace up maybe we can get there before to late and not have to deal with them anymore.
