"Endgame: OOC Planning Discussion"
Re: "Endgame: OOC Planning Discussion"
You looked for a travel brochure for Avastan but couldn't find one...
Maybe that was a clue!
The second clue is that it ends in 'stan.
Barracks wisdom holds that not only should you "never get out of the boat" but also you should never fight anywhere that ends in 'stan!
It's cold - looks like you'll need your muffler and mittens (correctly strung through your coat sleeves), a retune of your compressor masks and a lot of white emulsion.
For background flavour think of somewhere where the British have fought four wars, the Russians two and the US one. For theme/era it's back to the eighties and "Zinky Boys".

How many of the wars suggested were won by the named parties?Tiglath wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:11 pm You looked for a travel brochure for Avastan but couldn't find one...

Well, I don't suppose we will find many tickets that are sand volleyball contests on a tropical island, with a wet bar and breezy cabanas near the beach.Tiglath wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:11 pm You looked for a travel brochure for Avastan but couldn't find one...

Depends on your definition of victory. Some of them were "won", but it didn't stick. Hence the next wars. Even Alexander couldn't get a lasting victory, and he married in.How many of the wars suggested were won by the named parties?
Judging by how Jess found the officers on day one of the Inchin op I'd say you've just served that particular ticket. Pity you all forgot to play volleyball while you had the chance, eh?Well, I don't suppose we will find many tickets that are sand volleyball contests on a tropical island, with a wet bar and breezy cabanas near the beach.

It sure doesn't sound like a good honeymoon spot...

Re: "Endgame: OOC Planning Discussion"
Hasn't the Imperium got an Admiral by the name of Elphinstone?
Re: "Endgame: OOC Planning Discussion"
I seem to remember him as a Fifth Frontier War counter and that he was not as good as the Duke of Regina but better than the terrible Santanocheev.
I believe the historical precedents for the admirals' game mechanics were those unfortunate folk who were in post but revealed to be lacking when it came to the crunch in a war. Some Union commanders in the ACW seem to fit this bill and Duke Norris' Imperial Warrant that lets him take charge is surely borrowed from the very same "wheeze" that Napoleon pulled on his hapless brother during the invasion of Russia in 1812. He thought he was doing a great job in "independent command" until one of Napoleon's trusted subordinates handed him the "To Whom It May Concern.." letter from the Emperor!
PS That sawing and hammering from behind the GM's screen is just me building a scenario - I'll try to keep the noise down!

Re: "Endgame: OOC Planning Discussion"
Correct assessment, Jess wants more and better vehicles we can keep.Frank
To Duran:
"Thank you, I certainly appreciate your flexibility. I'll discuss it with the others in the morning, I'm sure the Sargent-Major will be tempted by the offer of vehicles, mobility is certainly a challenge"

That might not be the best option though:
The basic outline of a platoon eliminating the pirate facilities at a starport defended by a battalion without destroying the starport as a facility requires good intel to define what exact facilities we must eliminate, which we must not, the dispositions of the defenders and how to disrupt their deployment.
Re: "Endgame: OOC Planning Discussion"
I switched this across to Avastan Planning as it was so pertinent to wot I woz about to most eloquently post therein.
