Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Tiny
Tiny is near the undead.

Thorelf
puts his torch to the first decomposed body. It starts to smoulder, at first slowly, like a damp log - then the torn remnants of its clothes catch fire, with a vile crackling sound.
As Thorelf moves on to torch the next body, the first one suddenly sits up, leans on one rotten knee - then staggers to standing position. Sleeves on fire, repulsive yellow smoke licking its putrid skull, it looms over Korin and Tiny, arms stretched out towards them (see image). It is a terrible sight to behold.
Adversary d6 roll [1d6]=6
Initiative roll for Korin and Tiny!

Turns undead on what is left of the Zombie.
The cults focus of the afterlife has taken another remarkable turn.

Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Thorelf stumbles backwards appearantly chocked by the turn of events. Then he regains his composure, and stands ready, sword in hand.
Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
The Zombie
looking as if wearing a fearful crown of nauseous smoke, gains initiative and strikes out first.
Zombie targets Korin on 1-3, Tiny on 4-6 [1d6]=3
It is the dwarf that gets in the way of its fists on fire:
Zombie to hit roll [1d20]=6, Damage S/M/L [1d6]=6
but the zombie faffs the attack and misses Korin.
Thorelf
stopped in his tracks (and did or did not set fire to any other undead before this ? Pls clarify), then regained composure and drew his trusted blade.
Eaton
calls upon holy powers and aims to turn the zombie (but a 1d20 roll is needed for this: please post roll)
Then,
Korin and Tiny
both take a swing at the smouldering deadhead, and finish it off for good. It explodes in a fragmented burst of barbecued zombie flesh. It collapses here, there, and a bit over there. (And no, it does not seem like it is 'snoozing' any more)

Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Thorelf was just about to light up the second body as the first one rised, so only one on fire so far.
Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Eaton's turning was successful, but the zombie was hacked to pieces before his holy hand could have any effect. Strangely though, it didn't seem to affect the two remaining undead - they are still 'snoozing peacefully' on the floor.
The last sickly whiffs of smoke swirl upwards and dissipate against the ceiling 40' above. Vague sounds can....maybe...be heard.

Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Thorelf suddenly drops his torch and darts like a cobra to take position next to the north door, back against the wall, in so being out of sight for anyone entering through it.

Feeling that something is going on. Moves into the shadows next to Thorelf.

Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Korin hears something as well and moves to a better hiding spot and tries to hide in the shadows as best he can.

Looks around as everyone scrambles for cover, then follows Thorelf.

Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Everyone scampers to find some kind of protective or tactically advantageous position along the 'north' wall, out of view of the double doors on same wall.
But if there were any worrying sounds coming from behind doors or elsewhere just now, they've gone quiet again. All that can be heard is that....

Actions!...faint, slight swooshing sound in the background, coming from nowhere in particular. Like soft wind rustling through branches - but much fainter.
Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
Thorelf lets down his guard and walks over to pick up his torch.
"It was probably nothing. We can't leave these cursed bodies behind. Tiny, I suggest you chop the head of the other two. They are already long gone, and by releasing them from this state, maybe their souls at least can find peace."

Re: Chapter 02: Aquifers & anaglyphs
NB. Any player attempting to behead the remaining undead, will have to post a 'to hit' roll for each one.

Korin walks up to one of the prone undead and swings the longsword in hopes to behead it.
