Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
You should always be worried. And.....since Keg isnt an elf, I guess I know at least one player who looks under spoilers when they shouldn't be.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
The character still doesn't know what he shouldn't. He can only react to what others are doing

Elnaerel
"Oh. Those are Tasloi riding giant wasps! They're wielding javelins. I would start attacking them, as they're generally hostile to us but, what of they don't want to attack us? Remember what happened with the dwarves."
She tries to get as much cover as she can behind the rock.

Darklin
Readies his Long bow and nocks an Arrow waiting to see if they are hostile. Targetting the Wasp they are close enough. When the first Javelin is thrown at the party, he will launch his arrows.

[1d6]=3 Arrow damage
[1d20+3]=7+3=10 Long bow Attack Miss

Will follow suit with all the other ranged attackers. Once they are in range and the first Javelin is thrown he will sling a stone.

The Knife
Not being able to see anything yet, The Knife hisses out a string of questions.
"How many are there? Have they seen us? Are they heading this way? Maybe you should all take cover? Hey Elnaerel! A prayer saved us from the big crab. How about another one now?"
As he babbles, The Knife takes his tinderbox out from his belt pouch and breaks off a few chips of bark from the branches he's hiding behind.

Gnodric
He too steps behind the rocks to get a bit of cover as he sees the giant wasps with riders. "Well looks like more fun for us"! He smilingly readies an attack as soon as the wasps are in range. Aiming for the wasps. He will wait until someone else fires first, follow the vets.
Arrow 1: [1d20+2]=14+2=16
Dmg: [1d6]=1
Arrow 2: [1d20+2]=6+2=8
Feanol
Crouches down with the others. Waiting to see if the creatures attack, and if they do being ready to use sleep to take out at as many as she can.

Keg takes a readied stance and raises his shortbow to the ready, holding himself ready to take aim and fire should they indeed be attacked. I still can't see them! How many are there?

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
Under The Scorching Sun
Freeday, 26th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Sunny, Humid, Breezy
Looking around for cover, Keg sees a few rocky ledges, one of them already has an uncharacteristically quiet elf ducking behind it. Another has a gnome half hiding behind his makeshift cloak and stick sun screen, mumbling to himself and collecting bark chips for some reason.
Elnaerel tries to find cover as well, seeing all the best hiding spots already being taken. Though she has never seen these creatures before, she somehow not only knows what they are called, but guesses their bent and preferred methods of combat as well. (maybe she carries a MM2?)
As the line of specks close in on the group, they do indeed appear to be strange looking tiny jungle creatures riding atop giant wasps. Feanol ducks for cover, watching to see if any of the wasps become bunched up in a tight formation, which they don't. Keg, Darklin, Max, and Gnodric all ready their ranged weapons, planning to fire as soon as the first javelin from the creatures flies towards them.
TK starts calling out questions from behind his cloth shield, none of which are answered. When he suggests that Elnaerel say another prayer, she does so, quietly calling out to her goddess Ehlenestra. The young priestess nearly faints when she sees a beautiful, sparkly image of what might be her deity suddenly appear right there next to her on the rocks. The elven woman doesn't say anything, but she raises a shimmering bow towards the monsters, apparently ready to aid her humble follower.
The wasps form a wide loop in the sky as they approach and slowly start to encircle the vulnerable party. They fly around for a moment, but none of them let loose their javelins. They squeak loudly to each other as they circle overhead, then a few of them appear to pull out what look like small nets of some kind. There are a total of 10 wasps in the sky, each one ridden by one of these strange looking humanoids, keeping their distance at about 50 feet or so over your heads.
I wasn't sure if that was enough to trigger your attacks, so I didn't use the posted rolls yet. If your intentions are still to fire at them, just say so in your posts, no need to reroll your attacks.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
So when you say giant wasp... Are we talking like the murder hornets from last year that were like 5 or 6 inches long, or are we talking the size of a dog.... a cow.... or a bus??? I just want to make sure I understand what we are seeing.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
The creatures riding the wasps are about 2 feet tall, so the wasps are about 4 feet long or so.
Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
10-4. That is still a LOT of wasp!

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”
One question. Are they in range for the sleep spell?
Gnodric
Looks at one of the "vets" "Fire and scatter before they drop nets on us?"
If he gets any indication that anyone agrees he does it. If he gets nothing he does it.
Feanol
She wants to throw her spell if one or two are in range, and she likes her cousin's idea to scatter afterwards.

Elnaerel
Elnaerel startles at she sees an image of her goddess right next to her! She can't believe her eyes and, for a second, an overwhelming sensation of awe and humbleness surrounds her but, after seeing her goddess' combative reaction, the elven cleric comes back to her senses. She listens to Gnodric's idea, which compels her to think best to react and stop waiting to be captured with nets, probably before being killed with those javelins.
Her first shot is directed at one of the small riders: Sling (stone) - To hit [1d20]=19; Dmg S/M/L [1d4]=4
Didn't check any MM2, just knew what they are. It must have been somewhere at the back of my head. Thought she might have heard about them after having lived in a forested area. They aren't as uncommon as a behir or a catoblepas, I think. And as for their fighting techniques... I saw the one on the pic carrying a javelin and that was it
But I dare you to throw something from the glorious Fiend Folio (with 1HD, please
) and see if its weird looks are recognizable by anyone

In Elven: What are you doing? We are not hostile to you, be gone.

Max just stands around spinning his sling. Watching them fly around.

Re: Quest #34 "The Search For The Ruined Tower”

Under The Scorching Sun (and nets)
Freeday, 26th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Sunny, Humid, Breezy
Keyon and TK remain hidden, occasionally peeking out over the madness about to descend upon them. Darklin decides to hold his fire, and is rewarded by almost becoming trapped under a small vine net thrown down at him from above. If the creatures do understand the elves words, they show no indication of it.
Gnodric fires his bow, looking to Keg for suggestions that never come. He plunks one of the wasps with his first arrow before looking to scatter. Keg hits the rider with another arrow, hearing a high pitched squeal from the pain.
Elnaerel is amazed that her prayers have been working so well lately, happily accepting this most rare of occurrences known as divine intervention. When she sees her sparkling helper quietly begin to fire arrows at the monsters, it inspires her further, guiding her stone to an almost perfect shot that knocks one of the wasp riders from its flying mount. It falls to the rocky cliffs with a loud crunch.
Max and Keg are both hit with flying nets that partially envelope them where they stand. (a Hard Str check will allow you to rip through them easily enough to still act this round) Feanol notices that the wasps dip slightly in elevation when the riders throw their nest, believing that she could catch two of them in her spell if timed properly.
