Euripides Nereos

I like sticking to the coast. Head away from the people that...uh, killed...the captain. Despite captain Lazerus being a bit...odd? crazed?...he was still captain on Euripides' first voyage, and the Atlantean is saddened at the memory of how he met his end.

Apollonius Triton

Upon waking, Apollonius slakes his thirst and adds his voice to those who prefer scouting the coast.

Oops. I thought he'd already taken a drink. My life is a giant brain fart lately.

Searching The Coastline
Morning, Cloudy, Cool

Hakon nods his head at the idea of finding more food. “The debauchery I heard coming from those forest folk only ended a couple hours ago. If it was some kind of ritual or celebration, I’m half tempted to suggest we sneak in for a closer look now, while they’re down. But gettin some fish to eat sounds good to me, too!”

Sneaking their way back down to the stony beach, the group looks the area over again, finding no evidence of wreckage or any bodies washed up on shore. Still feeling bad for what happened to Lazereth, Euripides inspects the area where he fell, finding absolutely no trace of the man whatsoever. Oddly enough, even the man’s spilled blood appears to have been cleaned away from the rocks.

With the tide being out slightly, the coastline can now be accessed around the rocks without entering the water. Nothing but forested shoreline can be seen in either direction. Can I get a [3D6] Wis check from each of you with your next actions, please?

Actions?

Sorry Paladin, but the healing ale must be imbibed within 6 rounds of brewing.

Who is carrying the water cask around with them? Or will you leave that in the cave while you explore?

Valkrina

Inspects the boulder and etches 'Capt Laz' died here on the surface in rough graffiti.

She looks to Drest as the team scout to choose a direction.

As we go along the beach she walks ankle deep in the water so that the tide washes away her footprints. "No point showing the savages which way we went," she says.

Euripides Nereos

Euripides will wade out onto the water, going for a quick swim in the direction the rest of the party is scouting. He'll head back toward shallow water, taking Valkrina's suggestion of staying in the water.

Xenos gestures to the cask "I don't fancy leaving this behind. Does anyone have anything we could use to strap it to my backpack? I've got some bandages, but I don't think they'd be strong enough. "

Apollonius Triton

He'll join his fellow Atlantean and indulge in a swim, soaking in the brine and remaining close, lest the party be separated.

Valkrina uses a stone to etch the rock where the captain was brutally murdered before walking back into the shallows. She feels a slight pull from her idol, causing her to look out over the sea in the direction the captain was pointing the day before.

Hakon helps Xenos secure the unwieldy cask onto the back of his gear with some vines from a nearby tree. Drest leads the group around the rocky outcropping of the enclosed beach, moving further up the stony shoreline.

The Atlanteans both decide to wade into the ocean for a swim, wetting their gill slits in the cold, briny water. When they see Valkrina looking out over the vastness of the sea, they too feel the pull from their idols, as if it is summoning them all in the same direction. They stay close to the shore, following the lead of the groups scout.

Traveling up the stone covered beach for about a mile, the group doesn't find anything of note. There is no evidence of any wreckage from their former ship, and no other bodies are found washed up in this direction. They do find some thick soggy rope in a tangle of tree roots, and plenty of driftwood laying around, but not much of anything else. Looking further up the beach, Drest thinks he spots a trail opening that leads into the forest about a mile or so away.

Drest

Drest talking softly, "Looks like a trail up ahead, we should at least check it out. Let me go a little further in the lead."

Drest will try to sneak up on it in case anyone is around.

Valkrina

Picks up on the magnetic draw of the idol and the call of the wild to get out to sea. She reflects on the last words of the deceased crazed Captain and his urge to go beyond the horizon.

"We need to build a raft. Or steal some dugout canoes."

The driftwood and rope offer a small hope of cannibalising the flotsam into a suitable platform. Cannibalising. ... the Lazereth rock was not washed clean of blood, it was licked clean.

"Let's get to work before the tribe comes hunting."

She begins to sort the driftwood into pole and plank sizes.

Euripides Nereos

Seeing Drest begin exploring the trail, the young Atlantean believes his skills could come in handy. He attempts to move quietly behind Drest, but as wet as his clothes are after his swim, he is unable to control the noise they make as he moves.

Valkrina and Apollonius start collecting the scattered rope and wood washed up on the shore, quickly realizing that they will need to find much more material if they plan to build a raft able to support their numbers. Xenos suggests they think about hunting for food, hoping the distant trail is used by game.

Drest sneaks further up the coastline warily, looking back often at the noisy Purloiner following him, and usually with a sour look on his unruly face. Once the group gets closer, they spot three wooden poles protruding from the ocean surface a few yards offshore. The thick poles appear to have rusting iron shackles and ship chain attached to them near their tops. The poles, and the trail into the jungle, appear to be empty at the moment.

Valkrina

Puts aside building the raft. She thinks the idea good but the resources need gathering to build something big enough to carry us all.

"Maybe the natives have some canoes? Dugouts from trunks or crafted from frames and hide?" she muses on other options though a thought of paddling away in a human skin framed kayak not a nice (or totally implausible) idea.

She theorizes on the sea poles. The tribe securing captives to be eaten by crabs or held as an offering to appeases some dirty below the waves?

"Let us get off this beach and hide by the trail. I suspect it is well used by the natives and we have wondered further into their territory. We should wait for Drest to return out of view.""

She finds some dense bush or forested area that might serve to hide them and from which they can ambush any predatory travellers coming down the trail.

Drest

Drest will examine the beginning of the trail better. How recent was any activity, frequent use, how many beasts of burden, any evidence of small water craft being dragged on shore, anything that stands out?

Apollonius will also secret himself in the brush, after first assuring himself that it conceals no other denizens, and keep watch down the trail.

Xenos moves off the beach to be less visible, but tries not to get in the way of Drest and his examining. He keeps alert for signs of anything approaching.
