Darklin

There are buried tentacles from some giant sea creature in those ruts. If you want to die go ahead and walk through them. I have seen a similar creature and if one of those tentacles gets you there is no way your getting away. Here look.

He pulls his pants down and shows her the sucker-mark scars from the little one that grabbed him in the cave near the grate in the ground.

All these sucker makes came from a little one that grabbed me in a cave a couple days ago. There are also some kind of large Baboon creature out here a couple days ago when we came through here. It had large fangs and threw coconuts at the gnome over there. You should really have a guard with you when you come out here, with all the stuff that can kill you plus the new Stonegut dwarf problem we need to stay safe. We really should organize a party to come and kill this thing. The tentacles alone would feed us for a few weeks. Wish I had a company of Elven Archers here with me. Would make short work of it.

The Knife

If the ladies are unimpressed by Darklin's "demonstration", The Knife makes his own attempt to persuade them.

"Miss Marge! There's serious danger here! There is a monster under the sand!"

"Just four days ago it ate one of the constable's men! His name was Greff. He came down here with Liam and another deputy called Jombo. The tentacles just came right up and grabbed him. He was still screaming when they dragged him into the water!"

"We're not making this up. It was just four days ago. Didn't any of you hear about this?"

Watches as the Knife runs out to join Darklin near the disturbance on the beach. She continues to watch as he and the Elf begin an animated conversation with the women from town.

Gnodric

Still holds his bow, but is now trying to search for Baboons while keeping an eye on the disturbed area in the sand while the Kinfe goes forward to join Darklin.

The Search For The Seaside Tower
Waterday, 24th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Warm, Misty, Buggy

About to continue into the disturbed sand, Marge isn't sure what to do when Darklin drops his trousers right there in front of Pelor and everyone, though the elf does notice that it isn't only his bruises that the large woman is looking at. She turns a deep shade of red and attempts to cover the younger girls eyes with her thick hands. "My heavens Mr. Darklin! Pull your pants back up, man! There are children here!" The young water gatherers can only giggle at the whole affair.

Once TK joins in, adding his warning to the mix, the girls seem a bit more responsive. Marge continues. "Ya, there was rumors about another beast blocking the beach, but we were told that a group of adventurers already came out here to deal with the menace. I thought this ruffled area was the sight o' that battle and that the danger was all behind us now."

The woman drops her yoke and pails, urging the other girls to do the same thing. She then moves to the tree line and snaps off some straight branches, about 4 feet long, handing one to each girl. "If we poke around in the sand, we should be able to feel if there is anything buried here or not, right? It aint like we never faced adversity out here before."

The Knife

"No Miss Marge, it hasn't been dealt with unfortunately. The Knife says. "A group came out here to hunt beaver down by the river, but all they did was cut a path around it through the jungle there. Now the thing has obviously got wise to it".

"The problem is that the beast is out there",
he points out toward the sea, "where we can't get at it. It can kill us but we can't kill it." The Knife looks at the others. "Unless anyone has just had a great idea?"

When he sees Marge breaking off the branches, The Knife winces. "Miss Marge at least let us.. His voice trails off for a moment and he cocks his head as if listening. "Say that again. He's got a what? You're not talking about Darklin again are you? I won't stand for that kind of smutty...Oh...Gnodric...right..." He looks back at Gnodric. "Apparently you have, and I quote,...'just the kind of tool we need' ". The Knife points to the grappling hook hanging from the elf's backpack.

"We toss it out there in front of us and drag it back. Hook the tentacles when they are fifty feet away, instead of poking for them when they are right at our feet".

Feanol

Is growing impatient as she watches the conversation unfold where she stands on the tree line, and is puzzled at Darklins odd depantsing of himself. She's unsure why it is taking so long to tell them there is danger and then get going.

Gnodric

Is still really concerned with the Baboons' and doesn't even notice Darklin's actions.

The Knives come up with a pretty good idea about combing the area with a grappling hook before advancing, but distant Gnodric misses the cue.

Marge picks her pails back up, almost irritated by this point. She starts poking in the sand in front of her while the girls trailing her do the same.

Much the the gnomes dismay, they push through the disturbed sand, keeping in line with the hard packed trail they normally follow.

All the party of five can do is watch as the large stubborn woman makes it to the other side unfazed, finding nothing in the sand with their probing sticks.

"See little fella? There's always more'n one way ta skin a dead cat! Come along, girls! We gots work ta do!"

Without another word, they start walking away towards the river again.

The Knife

The Knife waits , peering through his fingers, as the ladies advance. He expects them to be grabbed at any moment. When they aren't, he exhales heavily and shakes his head.

After a moment The Knife turns to the rest of the group. "Well, the only thing I can think of is that the monster already ate this morning....or maybe it just thinks women taste bad." He shrugs.

Grabbing his walking stick, The Knife starts to walk forward along the trail, probing the sand. "Now is as good a time as any..."

Darklin

Well let them go. If they don't want our help them it is on them. But I for one am not falling to complacency. I'll use the trail still.

He starts to probe the ground until he can get to the Jungle trail that leads around the disturbed sand.

Shakes her head as the women refuse to listen to the warning. Glad they are seeming to make it, but more glad to see Darklin heading back to take the sensible route. Not so sure what Knife is going to do, but what's new.

TK walks through the sand, just as the girls in front of him did, and he is soon on the other side of the disturbance unharmed. The girls dont stop to see what the others will do, focused on their task at hand, they continue hiking up the beach.

Darklin isn't convinced, taking the jungle trail instead. He soon vanishes into the foliage. Please see private thread.

Max, Feanol, and Gnodric don't do anything, apparently content to see how this plays out for the others before making their decision to cross the disturbed sand or not.

Watches Knife take off after the women, so he must not be continuing with them. More puzzling is Darklin coming back towards them at first but then taking off into the jungle by himself. "So Gentlemen, should we continue on our way?"

The Knife

The Knife reaches the other side of the churned sand and lets out a huge sigh of relief. He turns back to wave at Max, Gnodric and Feanol. "Look! It's safe! Come now while you can!"

Seeing the distant figure of the Knife waiving at them she's not sure what he wants, but will wave goodbye as she says "come on lets get through those trees. Gnodric, the Baboons will be up above us if they're still here." as she rubs the knot that still sits on the back of her head.

With that the two of them resume the walk on the path they never left. Expecting Max to come with them.

With TK already passed the disturbed sand, he turns to encourage the others to follow, but somehow they misunderstand him to say that he is leaving the group and staying with the women.

Feanol, Gnodric, and Max (?) move into the disturbed area, staying on the same path the water carriers took. Once they enter the jungle detour around the sand, they see Darklin a few yards ahead, peering up into the trees with his bow at the ready. He appears to be backtracking backwards towards them.

I didnt think this would be so confusing for a party who just passed through this way.

I will add a map to my post. Hopefully that will help clear things up.

Darklin

Backs up to the rest of the group and points to the Dark Shape in the trees. Then whispers:

There is a trip wire on the trail ahead. it appears these baboons are smarter than their mainland cousins. What should we do? I can stick him a few times before he gets out of the tree but who knows what these things are. Might not be able to hurt them, but I hate to leave it this way for someone to fall into their trap. We got to do something.

Patting his sword hilt "Now that sounds more like it. I'll take my chances hitting them to see if they bleed. Lead on, what's your plan?"
