The Knife

"It's a two part thing," The Knife tells Gnodric as they approach the Treehouse. "First we're going to try and find the rest of our party. We were returning to town and got split up when we wandered into a nest of giant ants. We ran one way, Keg, Keyon and Elnaerel ran the other".

"We made it back here and met Max. He's looking to go find a magical treasure that will save Beachtown or something. Apparently it's somewhere out on the cliffs to the east. So we joined up with him."


As they begin to shift through the sand in search of the nails, The Knife begins to speculate on the second part of their mission. "When we were out across the river, we climbed up to the top of the cliffs. Way off in the distance we saw what looked like some kind of tower. I wonder if Max's treasure is hidden in there?"

"If it is, we might need more rations. That tower looked a long way away."
The Knife frowns.

Max will offer to heal Darklin.

[1d8] = 3 Cure Light Wounds

[1d8] = 6 Cure Light Wounds

That should do it. I only get 2 per day. Sounds good to me. I will need your help on another issue after we find your friends. I have a mission of my own. I'll be back here tomorrow morning ready to depart. Now if you will excuse me I am off to my tent for some sleep and preparations..

Here is a quick update that will start you out on the morning after returning to town. Please feel free to continue making your plans until you are ready to head out.

Waterday, 24th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Warm, Misty, Buggy


Max is able to heal the ailing Darklin to get him feeling much better by the next morning.

With a solid newcomer recruited into their group, the party starts their preparations for their trek over the black cliffs.

TK wonders if the tower they spotted from a distance earlier has anything to do with this mission. If so, he suggests that they might want to stock up on extra supplies, as it will be a loooong walk.

Actions?

(the search for nails isn't completely futile, as you are able to find 7 of the bent, rusty fasteners in the sand under the Treehouse) :D

Darklin

Darklin emerges the next morning in his Gleaming Elven Scalemail. Decked out in full battle gear. A pair of long swords on his back with his bow and quiver. Backpack bulging with rations and waterskins. A medium shield strapped to his pack. Ready to face the world.

Good Morning everyone. Are we ready to be off to find our friends?

Max

Wakes at dawn and says his prayers and sacrament. Studies his spell book before tucking it into his pack. Gathers his gear together and decides to wear his chainmail since they lacked much fighter support. Removes his 8 Flanges Mace from the chest. I guess it is time to break you in.

My father did a good job making you so let's see what you got.

He tucks it in his belt on the opposite side of his belt as his footman's mace and straps his Spartan Shield to his backpack. Tucks the slings in his belt pouch along with the bullets. And makes sure he has all of his remaining rations and water skins. He puts everything else into his large chest and locks it up. Sticking the key on the thong with his holy symbol. Then leaves his last 3 silver pieces on the lid of the chest for the girls to find. He did not need them where he was going so better to let them have it. He them moves off to join the party at Darklin's tent.

The newcomer shows up ready to go. Staff in hand, dressed in studded leather with his large shield ready to go. Long Sword at his side, and Long bow on his back as well as his backpack. He maybe appears a bit too neat and his gear a bit to new to even try to pass for anything but a newbie. Still he looks like he can use the gear it just hasn't happened yet.

Slowly approaching the young mage can be seen loaded down with gear. She's dragging three spears and has a quiver showing over her back. Coming up to the group gathering outside the tent, she finally looks up from her struggling approach. "Hi guys, did you find any" trailing off into a pregnant pause "What are you doing here"? She blurts out at the newcomer.

Gnodric unaware of her approach turns quickly when he hears the familiar voice. "Cuz, I sure didn't expect to find you here, what brings you out into the world from the deep forest".

The girl looks at him and says, "Why aren't you back home working on your studies? It hasn't been that long since we had word from your Father that you still weren't able to get even the smallest enchantment to work".

"Listen Cuz, I'm not cut out to be a magician, I'm a fighter, Dad just has to understand that, and I'm here to prove it to him." Says Gnodric.

The two come to terms with finding each other here in this remote spot, and he takes on the axe and spears to his load (Unless someone else wants to have one). She bought the axe because they might need to build something, and the spears for trade with the natives. The quiver of arrows she brought for the bowmen in the group since she has no use for them. Gnodric will split them with anyone else that has a bow.

The Knife shows up with his battered equipment, his walking staff and the large curved blade at his side.

"Good morning everyone! I'm ready to go. Not exactly looking forward to all those bugs though. Are we going to buy some tarp to build a shelter?"

The Search For The Seaside Tower
Waterday, 24th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Warm, Misty, Buggy


Once everyone is healed and powered up with their full compliment of daily magic, the party is ready to head out to search for the friends they lost in the jungle yesterday. Gathering at Darklin's tent early in the morning, the 4 elves and 1 gnome make their acquaintance's as they discuss the immediate future.

Darklin and Max are decked out in more gear than any of the others have ever seen someone carry through the jungle before, with multiple weapons, shields, heavy armor, and stuffed packs hanging from their necks and backs. Feanol shows up with multiple weapons herself, dragging a pair of spears behind her, nearly unable to move with the heavy load. She finds a familiar face has also joined the group, her very own cousin Gnodric, who she promptly hands off most of the new weapons to so she can walk upright again. This newcomer elf is also decked out in several dozen pounds of gear, now carrying no less than 6 weapons on him plus shield and armor.

TK is there as well, a smallish gnome who has also packed as much poundage upon himself that he can carry, wearing stained leather armor adorned with metal studs. The first thing he asks is if anyone has enough coin to buy some more gear to carry along with them. One thing is for certain, this group might not move very quickly, but they should have at least one of everything you could think of to bring along on an adventure, with several multiples for good measure.

Actions?

This will be the only warning about encumbrance. If you have items listed in your inventory that you aren't actually carrying, please get that cleared up. For example: Feanol is currently unable to move with the amount of items listed on her sheet and her 4 STR. Remember that the entire party can only move as fast as their slowest member.

Are we still planning to take a raft up the river? If so maybe Max and I should go and change to our lighter armor. There is no way the raft will hold both of us and all the others too. I will go and change. Max you should change too.

Max and Darklin depart and return shortly dresses in Studded Leather instead of the Scale and Chain as before.

The young elf is grumbling a bit as he stows the "few things" his cousin has persuaded him to carry for her into his backpack, well except for the additional handaxe which he places where it can be put to use if needed, when the other two return in their light armor. "Well are we ready to take off now?"

While the others go to change their gear, The Knife looks through his meager amount of belongings and looks for anything that he could leave behind.

"If we are going to travel by raft, it will have to be well built. That one we found barely floated with just three of us. And building it, then polling against the current will be a lot of work." The Knife laughs. "I'd much rather walk upriver and float down".

Returns and Looks around after changing armor.

Well it looks like Feanol has a new man today. Hope everyone is ready. Remember we are out to find our friends. If we meet anything our best bet is to avoid it if we can. We have a long way to go. So if everyone is ready, let's make like a Cowpie and Hit the Trail.

With that he turns and starts walking. The starts humming like the Soldiers from Wizard of Oz. At least until he is out of Beachtown

Wisely deciding to lighten their loads before heading out, Darklin and Max return to their tents to change back into their lighter armor, but return with their entire compliment of extra weapons.

Feanol hands everything she cant carry over to her cousin Gnodric, which is almost everything she carries, making his load much heavier now.

TK looks over his not so meager gear, the 75 pound gnome seems pretty content carrying 75 pounds of equipment, as if he was carrying a second gnome along with him on the journey.

The party gets down to the beach, ready to head out to look for their friends, but that is as far as they make it.

Actions?

I still don't see all the sheets updated yet, so I will pause this here until you can actually move again. (as I said, you only move as fast as your slowest member, so if Feanol has 40 pounds of gear on her sheet, she cant move)
Current weapons on her sheet, ONE of which she can actually use:
6 daggers 6
short bow 5
24 arrows 5
hand ax 5
2 spears 10
for a total of roughly 31 pounds of ONLY weapons, and about 30 pounds over her carrying capacity.

If she adds those items to Gnodric's sheet, he will be carrying an arsenal of:
4 of her 6 daggers 4
short bow 5
24 arrows 5
hand ax 5
2 spears 10
long bow/ 20 arrows 12
long sword 6
6 MORE daggers 6
quarter staff 5
for a total of 58 pounds of ONLY weapons on one person.

Not counting arrows, the five of you are currently carrying 53 weapons all together. Am I the only one who sees this as a bit unrealistic?

I don't want to be a big pain about this, or drag it out any longer, but I need to see some realistic inventory lists on your sheets. If you own items that you aren't currently carrying, they should NOT be on your list. Please separate those items in the notes section on your sheet instead so I don't have to look through items you arent actually carrying on you.

I have one rule about sheets, and I don't think it is too much to ask of the players to keep them current and accurate.

The Knife thinks about the long journey ahead and the load he's carrying. He removes one of his bandoliers and most of the darts he's carrying. "I'll eat my way through the rations. That'll help", he thinks.

As I explained earlier and detailed on the character sheet I never was carrying the bow it is back with my chest. If no one wants to carry the spears, or hand axe I'll leave them here. The arrows I brought in case anyone else needed any, but if they aren't needed again they will be staying in camp. At this point with no one expressing interest in any of them I would say we drop them here to retrieve on our return. The spears and extra hand axe were for trade purposes with the natives and was a request by others in the party.
