I haven't played AD&D this century, so out of nostalgia I'll give it a look. Thanks for the invite.Leitz wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 10:48 pm If you want a simple AD&D 1e game for a couple of months, I've started one here. Nothing to over-think, just go into a dank place and kill bad things. Relieve holiday stress.
Background is posted, action starts Monday. I enjoy gaming with you all.

Wow, I was "receive-only" yesterday and figured there would be dozens of fun posts to sort through.

I've noticed weekends are often surprisingly quiet.
Re: OOC and MIA
I'll post something tonight but I'm transitioning between computers which has taken some time...

Urgh, I'm dreading the day I have to do that.
The power jack on this machine only works if the cable is propped in a very precise ( and precarious ) way, and no local engineers will touch it.

good luck with that

Re: OOC and MIA
Sorry, no real sympathy. I use Linux and keep a backup of my home drive. Getting a new machine up and running is pretty easy.
Re: OOC and MIA
I converted to Linux in the last year, after windows 10 dragged my not that old laptop to a crawl. Linux gave it a new lease of life, and I havne't booted into windows for months.

Aaaannnnddd ... we're back!
Apologies for the intermission but you'll immediately notice while reading this that the background whirr of the cogs on the old PC is now absent!
Various preparations were in hand just in case Jess' trip for racing and spares went awry but as per my last IC these seem to have been overtaken by events.

Yeah, I'm not complaining, but sometimes this game moves so fast that I have to spend time thinking about a response and hoping someone else doesn't respond before I can! I also tell new players to *not* look at this game for a posting rate expectation; we're a bit "above and beyond".

The LBBs are on Bundle of Holding:

Though, if you were going to buy both, you might prefer to get the disc from Mr Miller himself ( The Classic traveller CDROM ):

Re: OOC and MIA
Marc sells the CDs with a 443 deal; buy 4, and he refunds one so you only pay for 3.

Re: OOC and MIA
I'd like to recommend a book. Originally printed as The Middle Parts of Fortune: Somme and Ancre 1916, it was reprinted in bowdlerised form as Her Privates We for the mass market.
It's a really good depiction of the experience of men in and out of the trenches in WW1, up there with Some Desperate Glory, definitely top 5 of any list. Top 3 for me.
It's common soldiers dialogue is part of the inspiration for Jess' style, but it is very much saltier. Fs and Cs in abundance.

An appreciation: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/ ... ic-manning
Here's a free Kindle edition: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Middle-Parts-F ... 8&qid=&sr=
And, of course, the physical book exists too. Some editions of Her Privates We ( the earlier ones, not the modern reprints ) are the expurgated version, shorn of profanity:

Power cut, no internet except by ‘phone ( and I don’t have much data on that ). Hopefully I’ll be able to post later, but it’s been over an hour so likely not ‘til tomorrow. Assuming the storm doesn’t bring down more lines overnight...

Ah, a chance to embrace winter sports!
Oh, wait we're not allowed out...
Bah, humbug!
However, could be a useful alibi as to not being here when Erica and Prerna broke the PG rating!!!!
