Action Thread: Episode III

Lord and Terra both cut loose with stun blasts which connect with the fleeing technician; causing him to stumble and then fall face-first onto the bridge and slide unconscious into the control room on the opposite side of the shaft from where the Rebels started from. Walex, Caius and La'Reth move to the center of the shaft to the control computers there and the last terrified technician and Blissex begins to immediately pull up data on the computers while the terrified Imperial looks at the alien and the one-time pirate and sputters out an "I....surrender...please don't kill me!"

La'Reth moves cautiously but steadily closer to the frightened technician reaching out with his hand and with the Force to try an calm his fears. Relax. Calm down. You have nothing to fear, neither myself nor my colleagues. We only desire to leave this ship as soon as possible.

La'Reth will spend this round moving closer to the technician slowly and, using the Force, attempt to alter the man's frame of mind to a more trusting, less frightened, posture. Since I am still relatively new to the game, is this an Alter roll, or a Control roll? Or is this one of those Control+Sense+Alter types?

Terra quickly dashes after the technician she and Lord dropped with their stun blasts; when she comes to where he stopped skidding across the deck, she first makes sure he's alright, then she searches him for anything useful.

Caius Grendel

Caius reaches the now unconscious technician he had been chasing, frisks him for any equipment of use, especially weapons, keys, and electronics, and looks around for an exit past the bridges.

LaReth recalls hearing his teacher long ago mention knowing some techniques to utilize the Force to Affect a person's mental/emotional status; but he has not yet mastered the ability to do so himself*. However his words seem to have a somewhat calming impact on the Imperial who nods his head and takes a few gasping breaths in an obvious attempt to calm down....

Caius and Terra find a comlink and an empty tool belt on the unconscious Imperial Tech; nothing else is of any obvious use to the Rebel escapees. Walex immediately gets to work on using the computer workstations and glances over at the one-time Pirate turned Rebel. "Excuse me lad; but you may want to take a look at this whilst I speed up the self-destruct mechanism"; while motioning to a view screen. As Grendel comes over; he can see that Blissex has broken into the secure comms messages again; utilizing the security hacks that Caius had used earlier. The Rebel's eyes widened upon seeing the readout**...

As the Rebel Engineer and one-time Pirate work on their tasks; a couple of long minutes pass. The other Rebels can tell that there are two ways to go from here; the way they had just come from and across the recently-extended bridge to a control room and presumably access to the Star Destroyer's decks on the opposite side of the shaft. Terra, Lord and Grey Starr kept anxious watch as the computer-jockies did their thing. Walex suddenly gasped in surprise and dismay....

"I don't believe it! Surely this is impossible...someone has set the self-destruct mechanism using a sequence that only I know! I built it into the ship's design as a failsafe option but never revealed it to the Imperials running the shipyards....it's an option that cannot be altered and to tamper with it any further would result in the Star Destroyer's immediate destruction! But who could possibly have set it? Why....besides myself; the only other person in the Galaxy who possess the knowledge of how to set the sequence is....my daughter!"

At that moment; the Rebels see movement and hear the echoes of armored boots moving rapidly on the floor echoing throughout the shaft. At least half-a-dozen White armored Stormtroopers cradling Blaster Carbines can be seen moving into both control rooms on either side of the shaft.The entranceway is only wide enough for two of the troopers to take up a position at a time; but they are clearly about to open fire. To make matter worse; the painfully familiar voice of Captain Kolaff suddenly comes over the Intercom;

"How VERY disappointing. Just when I was beginning to think that you might have a micro-bit of warrior in you after all, you play directly into my hands. Sigh....bantha herders...Very well; here is your next and almost certainly last lesson; I call it; 'Being Killed in Action'..."


*LaReth cannot attempt to manipulate other people's thoughts or feelings yet; this is an Alter Force Power called "Affect Mind". I have house-ruled that all Force Powers only fall under 1 of the 3 Force Skills (Control, Sense, Alter)...so there will never be a power that you have to use more than 1 skill for.

VSD Subjugator Battle Report; Logged by Captain Kolaff, commanding officer, VSD Subjugator

Enemy force encountered outside of the Kwenn System. Originally believed to be pirates; upon further review it has now been confirmed as a Rebel Task Force by intercepted enemy communications.

Makeup of Enemy Task Force included 1 Rebel Star Cruiser (Mon Calamari class), 1 Rebel Escort Frigate (Nebulon B class) and 3 Rebel Corvettes (Correllian design). Motivation for the attack is unknown; but probably just seizing the opportunity to attack an unsuspecting, long Imperial warship. After the initial heavy bombardment which heavily damaged the Subjugator; defensive maneuvering and counter attacks were made using all available weapon systems. Moderate damage was scored against the Rebel Cruiser and 1 Corvette was confirmed destroyed and a second crippled. The last Corvette and Escort Frigate are believed to have only sustained light damage. At this point; the Rebel Task Force retreated; leaving the Subjugator crippled. Long range scans show that the Rebel ships are back and moving into attack range; it is estimated that they will reach point-blank range in approximately 2 hours and 43 minutes. We will 'play dead' and draw them in close and destroy them with the self-destruct mechanism when they undoubtedly close for possible capture of such a powerful vessel and useful Imperial technology, supplies and prisoners. This log will be launched via probe in just over 1 hours time as we remain under communications blackout.

Terra snags the comlink off the unconscious technician, offering it to Caius if he doesn't have one. If he does, she pockets the device.

When the Subjugator's commander's voice comes over the ship's intercom, Terra rolls her eyes and snorts in disgust. "I really wanna pop that guy in the mouth!" she says as she once more takes cover. Once in cover, Terra lines up a shot on a trooper and fires.

Lord seeks cover then starts shooting like a maniac.

"I wonder if those fools wasting time trying to kill us even know the ship is going boom soon...", he says as he fires.

The battle in the engine core shaft begins with the echo of the armored feet of the stormtroopers as a pair from either side rush forward towards the central platform the rebels currently occupy and their brethren behind them open fire; though only another pair from each side can shoot....

As the battle is joined; Lord opens up with some suppressing fire that manages to halt the progress of the two charging Stormtroopers on the bridge to one side AND throw off the aim of their two companions behind them so that the blaster bolts just sail into the walls of the shaft....

Meanwhile Terra manages a well-aimed blast that drops one of the two troopers charging across the opposite bridge; sending him falling into the depths of the shaft; yet not before he drops his Blaster carbine which skids across the bridge and winds up next to a crouching Grey Starr....

A pair of blaster bolts lances through the shaft at the Rebels and one passes between Caius and Blissex; missing both by mere centimeters. The last bolt grazes the shoulder of La'Reth; causing no real harm; but forcing a slight hiss of pain and the smell of burnt fur to waft up into the nostrils of the serene would-be Jedi....

Rather oblivious to the deadly crossfire all around him and indeed that barely missed him; Walex Blissex remains focused on the controls in front of him; while still finding time to answer Lord's probably-intended-to-be-rhetorical comment with a; "Oh...I rather doubt it. There are no signs that any escape pods or abandon ship protocols have been enacted.....hmm.....I think I have an idea! I believe I can change the nature of the energy field created by the power shaft and utilize it to create a make-shift repulsorlift field! Then we could just leap down the shaft and use it as a turbo lift! Hmmm...should only take a few minutes...."

OOC: Sorry for the really late reply; I was waiting for actions from La'Reth and Caius; sorry if that wasn't clear. Okay; the current situation is that 3 stormtroopers are rushing across the bridge towards your group; probably within say...5 meters from you all. There are somewhere around 8-10 stormtroopers behind them; with 4 of them able to shoot at you all at a time. The captured Imperial technician is just hugging the ground and closing his eyes. Actions/questions?

Terra lines up a shot on another stormtrooper and fires. Fortunately she's got the cobbled-together headset comlink on, and is listening in on the Imperial channel. Hopefully she can get some insight into their plans...

The rising tide of blaster fire and resulting sounds of missed shots causing miniature explosions as they hit instrument panels or connected causing screams created a cacophony that all but drowned out Walex Blissex's statement that; "I'm nearly there with the process on re-routing the energy to turn this whole shaft into a makeshift turbo lift...."; his attention so focused on his task that he never even flinched from a blaster bolt near-miss....

Terra's shot narrowly missed her opponent; but over the din of the battle; she could hear on her jury-rigged comlink an Imperial message; "-moving into position now for a crossfire...."; and with a quick glance around the powershaft; she could indeed see the sight of several silhouettes moving into position to utilize the windows to the shaft as firing ports at several points on both sides of the curved shaft...

Grey Starr snatched up the Blaster Carbine from the fallen Stormtrooper and wasted no time opening fire with it and hitting and wounding the Stormtrooper that Terra had just missed. The wounded trooper fired a shot that lanced between Terra and the one-time Scout; narrowly missing both and blowing out small chunks from an instrument control panel....

On the other side of the platform; Caius opened fire and hit a stormtrooper with a glancing shot and took a stinging blast to his upper left thigh in return.* Hissing in pain; he did take a bit of grim satisfaction in watching Lord's shot drill the stormtrooper who shot him and sending him plummeting to his doom....

Lord's shot dropped the second Stormtrooper moving towards his and Caius's position and sent him plummeting to his doom; but also opened his field of vision to see a quartet of Stomtroopers on the other side of the Bridge extension; with two in a front rank kneeling down and two more standing behind and over them; all preparing to open fire....

The Bothan student of the Force meanwhile attempting to concentrate on the Force and trust in his senses; but this was spoiled by the impact of a Blaster bolt to his right forearm**. The wound caused him to gasp in pain and momentarily lose his connection to the Force....


*Caius is now at the "Wounded" status; he will be at -1D for all actions until healed
**La'Reth is in the same situation as Caius.

Terra calls out to her companions. "They're setting up a crossfire!" She quickly points out the positions the troopers are moving to, aiming her blaster at the first of them she can see and loosing a shot.

Lord backs up Terra, aiming his shots at the nearest positioning, cross-firing trooper to himself.
