Goblin Hunting
"It is decided then," Nella starts; her lantern shining down the hallway in front of them. "If they skipped the mirror hallway, we shall find them ahead and they likely lack information of value regarding it. Unari, Gruuthuk - take the lead. I will hold the lantern light back until you report or engage."

A cruel grin splits the bugbear's face. "Let's go kill some goblins," he says to Unari as he readies his bow and sets off down the hallway in the darkness, moving silently. Unari feels a light touch on her shoulder and hears Lika chirp "Stay stealthy, my friend," before she readies her own bow and following the eager bugbear.
(Lika casts Guidance on Unari, which lasts for one minute (or, the way I'm tracking time, 10 minutes).)

Nella is next to move, trailing the lead pair by at least 30-feet, careful to not let the light from her lantern spill around the uppermost corner.


Gruuthuk and Unari reach the corner at roughly the same time. It is the very same corner that served as their initial entrypoint, and peering around the corner to the right, or east, reveals just an empty hall leading to the previously explored room which, aside from a few burnt-out torches and empty potion bottles was empty. And contained no other exits.

Either the goblins are hiding inside the empty chamber at the end of the turn, or there's another hidden exit somewhere?

Nella is quite confident she was thorough in searching the empty room before.
Passive perception 21; rolled searching with a natural 20, total 26.
Perhaps the mystery lies out here in the hallway.

She waits patiently as the two stealthier sorts check the hallway and follow the bloody goblin tracks... if they extend around the corner? If she notices them being stymied, she will advance at their cue to help them search the corner or where the tracks dissappear...

Lika notices Nella's concern and starts looking closely at the tracks. She's trying to determine if they cleverly disguised a backtrack or lead into a wall. He whispers to Nella "Shine the light down the mirror hall, just in case."

Certain the goblins are still ahead of them, the bugbear continues attempting to sneak up on them in the...empty?...room. If he spots one, he will fire an arrow at it.

Mirror Hall
"Shine the light down the mirror hall," Lika requests of Nella, trusting the range of illumination of the lantern more than the light spell on the lit coin from Xanlanan he's carrying.

Looking to not let those leading the pursuit of the fleeing goblins get too far ahead, Nella presses forward after the condition of the mirrored hall remains unchanged from the last time it was explored.

It's not far beyond the branch leading to the mirrored hallway that the bloody goblin prints begin to lighten, and eventually cease roughly 5-feet before the right-hand turn just ahead.

Round 1

Ahead of the rest, the bugbear rounds the corner to the right, fully intent on hunting his quarry. While not moving quite as stealthy as he's accustomed, Gruuthuk still manages to locate the hiding goblins... and catches them unaware:

Note: I'll grant Gruuthuk advantage on his attack. No extra roll is needed, but this will allow him to apply his Sneak Attack damage.

Taking a position not quite halfway down the hallway, the rogue spies the most exposed goblin (blue/orange) picking its nose, oblivious to the approaching threat.

An arrow sinks into the left eye of the unsuspecting victim, killing it instantly.

In a panic, the remaining goblins, realizing they've been pursued, push as into the far northwest corner of the room they occupy, seeking to hide as much as possible.

Adjustment, if allowed:
Nella hands her lantern to Lika as the bird-person shines it at the mirrors, exchanging for the coin, which she then affixes to her bodice. "Better," she smiles. "I appreciate not havingto set it down to brandish weapons." She winks.

Loitering at the corner, she hears the sound of Gruuthuk engaging. "Make sure we don't get jumped from behind," she tells the others.

She advances up the corridor as promised, drawing her bow.
(Unclear if I have line of sight for the bow; options below.)


Her steps are like the air itself as she advances up the corridor as promised, drawing her bow. She preternaturally reaches Unari and Gruuthuk, remaining in tandem with them as they all shoot their bows.
add Bonus Action: Step of Wind.
She doesn't get in front of Unari and Gruuthuk and if relevant will try to keep partial cover from the corner while shooting.

Lika takes the lantern and nods at Nella. "I'll watch the corridors."

He retrieves a coin and takes a page from Xanlanan, casting light on it and tossing it far down the mirrored corridor. She turns to her muse and remarks. "Guess we get watch duty."

Lika shines the lantern down the south corridor, glancing down the two now lit corridors at regular intervals.
If Needed: [1d20] = 1 lika appears to watch the wall instead.

Xanlanan nods in agreement. "Indeed! Someone must ensure our rear guard is not surprised! We must stay diligent!" After a few seconds of being diligent he can't help but ponder the mirrors in the hallway near them. He starts to ramble on a bit as he ponders. Why would there be mirrors in a dungeon? What purpose would they serve? To help light an area? If so, they should be angled to direct the light outward, I think. Certainly not to be used by those feisty goblins to preen at I most certainly conclude! What else then? oh! What about some type of magic?! Hmmmmm.... but what type..? Hmmm, indeed!"

Unari moves forward until she has a shot at the goblins, then shoots her bow at available targets.

First combat round, Dread Ambusher active.

Round 2
Hot in pursuit alongside Gruuthuk, Unari, using her ambushing tactics, bounds forward with unusual speed and sends a volley of three arrows at the cowering goblins. All three, unfortunately, clank harmlessly against the far wall.

"I'll watch the corridors," Lika squawks, accepting the lantern from Nella and passing the illuminated coin to the monk in exchange. The warlock alternates shining the light down the long southern corridor and the side, mirrored hallway, noting no changes in either direction.

The goblins, as if they recognize and accept their fate, continue to cower; pressing as close to the corner of the room as goblinly possible.


Nella, her steps like the air itself, effortlessly trails Unari, passing the halfing briefly, and fires two longbow arrows into the conglomeration of goblin targets, eliminating two more of them, and leaving only a pair of them remaining.
Note: Both your unarmed strike and Step of the Wind require your bonus action, so only one could be used each turn. In order to cover the distance needed to get into position to make ranged attacks (and slink back to cover), you would need to use your Step of the wind ability, so that is what was used (which also makes sense since there was no opportunity for an unarmed melee strike anyway).

I'm mainly raising this point to clarify the action economy and what is possible within a single turn.
After her attack, Nella backtracks slightly and positions herself behind Unari, ready to continue her ranged attacks over the halfling's head.

"Fools! You made a big mistake messing with us," Gruuthuk announces as he stealthily bounds around the corner leading into the goblin hideout, sinks a well-placed arrow deep into the chest of one of the remaining goblins, then quickly repositions himself just outside the room, hiding.




"We must remain diligent," Xanlanan reminds Lika as the pair maintain their position as rear-guards. After a few fleeting seconds of diligence, however, the sorcerer begins to ponder the mirrors in the nearby side passageway, quietly sharing a running monologue of his thoughts: "Why would there be mirrors in a dungeon? What purpose would they serve? To help light an area? If so, they should be angled to direct the light outward, I think. Certainly not to be used by those feisty goblins to preen, I most certainly conclude! What else then? Oh, what about some type of magic?! Hmmmmm.... but what type..? Hmmm, indeed!"

Picking up arrows, then. :) Also, the short rest should have refreshed her Ki points. (Only 1 now spent.)

The Baroness stores her bow and pulls her arrow shafts from the deceased goblins, looking them over. She looks up from them at the goblin and gives him a broad smile. "There's a good fellow," she croons in Undercommon. "Do you understand me? Will you tell me now what we wish to know about these chambers?"

Hearing squeals and cries from what seems like goblins, Lika assumes the situation is well in hand. He continues keeping watch both south and east. "Many under creatures dislike seeing themselves. The fact that these are unbroken suggests they stay away. Possibly trapped, or forbidden?"

She shrugs. "We can experiment when the others return. I can send something into the area before we venture in ourselves."

Xanlanan sighs. "I suppose we could wait for the others to return..... but your reasoning makes sense. Perhaps we just peek at the edges to start...." He'll look at the edges and walls of the nearest mirrors without crossing over them or looking into them just yet.

The gangly bugbear wanders into the room, showing the surviving goblin a big, toothy grin. I would suggest answering the lady's questions. Otherwise...I am getting hungry.
