Xenos continues to keep an eye out, in the direction of Kaul and all around too.

We are simply escaped slaves, looking for passage off of this horrible island before we are all worked to death in its bottomless mines. Will you not aid us? Deliver us from this accursed place if you can?"
Kaul takes in the wretch's condition and though he is a hard man, the barbarian isn't cruel. "Slaves working the mines...no one who calls himself a man should feel the yoke. All I can do is give you some food, fresh water, maybe some better clothes. But to get off the island with the vessel behind me, alas...that is not up to me. Come with me and make sure the rest of you come unarmed."

Though the Kimmerian takes the escaped slave's account at face value, Kaul still remains alert and wary for treachery. "Tell me more about these mines and who runs them."

Where Are We Again?
The Dark Beach
Night, Cool, Breezy

Despite the warnings, Ragnarr and Hakon start making their way across the soft sand towards the barely visible dead figure on the beach.

The haggard man near the tree line appears relieved that Kaul seems genuinely willing to help them out. "Thank you sir. We will do as you say. We are unarmed and severely dehydrated. If you have fresh water, we would be mighty grateful for some of it. I'll call the others out now, so you may see that we mean you no harm."

As he turns to address his friends, the others shout over to Kaul from the boat, much to the chagrin of Pako who doesn't appear to like this situation one bit. "What's that brute doing? Cap'n aint gonna like this at all. And stop all that damn shouting! This island aint completely uninhabited, ye know!"

The words barely leave the salty sailors crusty mouth when everyone hears a sharp screeching noise coming from up the dark beach in the direction these men appeared from. And then another. and then another. They seem to be either getting louder, or getting closer, but nothing can be seen yet through the pitch blackness of night.

Kaul notices the eyes of the man bulge with fear as he hurries the others out from their hiding spots in the trees. Pako aims his crossbow towards the sounds. "Dammit! Well, we're in it now. Any a you got a way to shine some light out there?"

This is the best I can do for mapping with my limited computer skills, so please let me know if you need any part of it explained. Thanks!

Valkrina

Without a weapon to attack at a greater range, she again vocalises the bardic inspirational song to influence the martial prowess of warriors in the boat.

Xenos shakes head "All I've got is a handful of torches, that's it.

He points his Crossbow at the screeching sounds, trying to see the creatures making them.

Upon hearing the screeches from further down the beach and seeing the faint shapes coming their way his lips curl back over his teeth.

Run, you sons of whores! Run to the ship! Then he cries out to the vessel, Let down the rope ladders! Toss down my sword and shield!

Running, Kaul turns to the man who came out to him. Those noises, who or what are they? Be they beast or demons?

Kaul's first intention is to take up his sword and shield and protect the escapees as they board the vessel.

Euripides Nereos

The Atlantean will hurriedly unfurl the rope ladders. Hurry! he shouts, though those on the beach need no encouragement.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. Xenos will throw down Kaul's sword and shield. If it looks like he'll be facing multiple critters on his own then Xenos will join him.

Valkrina starts her singing again as Xenos tosses Kaul's sword and shield into the sand below, debating whether to join the man or not. Drest shouts for the others to return while Euripides readies the boat for boarding.

The distant screeching intensifies, like a twisted unseen battle cry that continues to crescendo from the darkness. One thing Kaul notices right away is that most of the noise seems to be coming from close to the ground. The Kimmerian rallies the disheveled men in the forest, urging them to follow him if they want to live. He shouts out to the ship before demanding to hear what these men know about their attackers. Their leader tells him everything he knows as they all hustle to keep up with the barbarian. "Pesky little dog sized lizard creatures. They aren't dangerous unless there are more than one or two around. This island is full of them, but I don't think they're native to it. They are night hunters, probably following all the noise from our shouting."

Instead of returning to the boat, Ragnarr and Hakon draw steel and prepare to meet these monsters head on, allowing Kaul a bit more time to muster the others and reach his weapon. Their distant torchlight soon reveals four dark shapes hurrying towards them. They are indeed the size of dogs, sprinting on two chicken-like legs with tiny clawed arms and horrid heads that appear almost draconian.

In the limited light, they are hard to make out, but it appears that 2 of them are headed towards the Viking dou while 2 others are headed straight for the ship. Pako takes a shot with one crossbow, sending a bolt harmlessly into the darkness beyond the monsters. "You heard the Cap'n! Protect the ship at all cost!"

For combat, I will generally take care of things like initiative rolls and such, depending on the situation. All you should have to do is to state your action and include any rolls you might need. Thanks!

Xenos

Seeing the two creatures making their way towards Kaul, the Ixian fires his crossbow at the closest of the two before grabbing his sword and shield and jumping down onto the sand next to the Kimmerian.

"You think I'm going to let you have all the fun and fight these on your own. I don't think so, I'd never hear the last of it!"

Valkrina

Whets the carved blood letting sawteeth on her spear head, "Teeth and claw. Those raptors
are pack hunters."
she observes, then counsels the crewmen and slaves huddled on the beach.

"You don't have to outrun those critters. Just outrun that lame cripple at the back."

She anticipates the guy at the back being overwhelmed and torn to shreds by the hungry drakes giving fractions of time for others to flee.

Drest

Drest fires into the center of the mass of on coming critters.

Short Bow [1d20+1] = 2+1 = 3 to hit [1d6] = 1 damage

Short Bow w/silver arrow [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11 to hit [1d6] = 2 damage

Not sure if I get 1 or 2 attacks with the bow. Ignore the second if I only get 1.

The base Rate of Fire for a bow is 3/2, allowing 1 shot on the first round, and 2 the second.

Depending on Class and Weapon Mastery, of course.

Euripides Nereos

Leaving the shouting to others, Euripides fires his sling at one of the rapidly approaching creatures.

Now armed with shield and sword, Kaul will interpose himself between the oncoming critters and those poor souls scrabbling to get up the side of the ship. Valkrina's song makes his blood sing as he swings at the first one that comes near him.

Kaul Sword Attk:[1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7
Kaul Sword Dam:[1d8+2] = 6+2 = 8

Xenos and Drest shoot wide as the tiny monsters approach. The dark warrior eventually hops over the side of the ship to aid the struggling barbarian, his swing also failing to injure one of the frightening looking monsters. One of the terrified looking fellows they are trying to save steps alongside them as well, brandishing a long sharpened stick he must have made in the jungle. The trio's blockade allows the other struggling ex-slaves to slowly gain access to the ship, much to the chagrin of Pako who scowls at the entire episode, firing off another errant shot from his crossbow.

Valkrina continues her song, finally snapping Kumaglak out of his sugar stupor long enough to at least acknowledge that his party is in trouble. He cracks his knuckles as he moves towards the front of the boat. Euripides slings a stone at one oncoming creature, hitting it squarely, but not hard enough to bring it down. Hakon and Ragnarr draw two of the monsters towards them, crying out to their Viking gods as they engage the things in battle. Their shouts bring two more of the critters out of the darkness, one rushing towards them, while another heads for the action at the ship.

In a flurry of raking claws and snapping beaks, Kaul and Ragnarr are both injured slightly by the oncoming attacks. 2 dam The loud screeching from these monsters doesn't abate once they are engaged in battle.

Xenos

"By Krimmr, you're one ugly looking turkey!"

He swings his sword at the beast

Long Sword: to-hit [1d20+3] = 15+3 = 18, damage [1d8+3] = 5+3 = 8
