As he finishes Remington throws Kar a look halfway between resignation and hope. Given the mostly polite tenor of the conversation Remington didn't think it was appropriate to point out that Ridley also seemed to be implying that a slave might be considered on the path to join the raider's fraternity. Remington wasn't certain what Oghman social mores were on that point, but he suspected that it might not be popular to suggest that a mere technical slave be considered as a potential member of such a warrior society.

While it is not impossible for a slave to become a full Oghman it is very, very rare. Even being granted freedom is a remarkable achievement. Certainly either of these things can only be granted by a Lord.

It is more common for slaves to be accepted as more equal ( though never actually equal ) members of the crew. I made the top three ranks in Oghma Slave chargen : Trustee, Parolee and Almost Free/Near Oggie to reflect that growing acceptance.

So, the offer of a first step on the path is not totally outrageous to other Oghmen. What might be seen as "bad form" is for a Technician to presume to speak for the Raiders

I haven't posted it here, but the ceremony on Oghma generated a couple of "Fate Points" for the team. Each can be used to either re-roll one result or add/subtract one from a result. Use sparingly - to save a life for example.

He is wonderfully fragrant now. The water was black, the soap froth was orangey from red clay soil, there was yellow and brown sandy sediment at the bottom, and the burrs were green. Colourful character for a black and white terrierist.

It's been a while since he bathed. I only do it if I can smell him normally, and I don't have a good sense of smell.
