looking to play, old-ish school and low crunch for player

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

looking to play, old-ish school and low crunch for player

#1 Post by whattime »

I guess that's the subject. Ideally I'd like a chnace to join a game with low crunch on the player side. Heavy on exploration and resource management. Relatively low on playacting except when fun.

Is there anything like this?

The TABA game by Old Duergar, and pretty much anything run by Tibbius, are very low crunch for the player. I'm not sure what you mean by play acting, but Tibbius' games have been fun. Haven't gamed with Old Duergar, so I can't really comment there.

There And Back Again (TABA) is a very rules-lite system focused on Tolkien's Middle Earth works and the crunch is minimal indeed, compared to Dungeons & Dragons (theater of the mind only and more erring towards collective storytelling). The game started a few weeks ago and is still in the starting stages. Please bear in mind I have no play-by-post experience and this is my first attempt to run such a game.

Tibbius is also playing in my game and I can third the recommendation: his posts are of excellent quality and capture the game's theme.

Feel free to take a look at the game here: viewforum.php?f=1003

I know little of the games Tibbius runs as DM: but if his posts as a player so far are any indication, they must be great indeed.

Ah ... um. Thanks guys.

I'm all over the place with what I run. The game Leitz was in went very much into character and personal relationships; I don't think we ever actually had a combat, though there was a pretty tricky trap that the party had to overcome in order to acquire the armaments for a future conflict.

The game Paladin played was very much a dungeon crawl - actually lifted it from https://dungeoncontest.com back pages. Almost finished that adventure (Paladin had to drop due to time constraints v. post rate). Moving on to a new scenario after this one, assuming the other players stay interested - and of course P always welcome to rejoin with his stealthy trapmaster. That's a Tiny Dungeon game. I like Tiny a lot bc it runs fast and smooth.
