Action Thread 4

#1 Post by rredmond »

You are all able to find each other and the light in everyone's eyes start to dim:
Till has 32hps, Yosef 7hps, Jeloon 29hps, Bruard 19hps, and Van is down to 4 (out of 7)
Till wrote:Till will do the following things in this order:
Check on Bruard and Yosef to make sure they're comfortable (and don't hurt themselves stumbling across a body or weapon) while they wait out the effects of the light spells. Done
Stabilize Wergrim to make sure he doesn't bleed out. (Funny enough, he forgets to check on Ovgur...) Wergrim wasn't as hurt as Ovgur. Ovgur dies and Wergrim is stable, though still unconcious.
Check on any other party members who were hurt during the melee. (Van was hurt. Wasn't Rosin or Ancor wounded? Yosef was, as well, I think. Oh! So was Till! Bastards!) See above hp total, neither Rosin or Ancor took a hit!
Praise Rosin, Ancor, and Van for a job well done and make vague mention of a bonus in passing. (Don't know what or how much it will be yet, so... that's why he'll be vague) Rosin and Ancor talk happily amongst themselves, Van mumbles grumpily to himself something about only taking damage and not dealing it out as he goes to retrieve his thrown spear.
Then he'll start methodically searching all of the bodies, starting with Wergrim and Ovgur. He'll take anything of value and put it in a pile next to the campfire. The loot below...
On the dwarves there are:

The regular warriors have some personal items and a total of 6 battle axes, 6 dwarven sized scalemail, 6 shields and a total of 138gps;

Ovgur has a mace, dwarven plate, shield, empty scroll case, potion, and a pouch with 20gp and a gem and he wears a gold ring. He also holds the bone scroll case with the map to the crypt.

Wergrim has his battle axe, chain, shield, pouch with 50gps and 2 gems.

Their DAM has a full little keg (like half a barrel) of ale left, as well as food and water for a few days. Nothing major, actually the food doesn't look enough for the dwarf troop for more than 2 days. There are carefully wrapped dungeoneering items under a nifty carrying saddle that blends with the DAMs coat, and looks like it provides some (AC) protection: some extra cloaks, bedrolls, 5 large sacks, 50' rope, 4 section 10' pole, and the lantern hanging down from it.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Till helps the others put all of the armour and weapons in an organized pile, keeping Wergrim's and Ovgur's items together, then he will take a little time to try and evaluate the gems and the ring to determine their worth.

He asks, "Yosef, can you prepare a spell in the morning to check and see if any of these," he points to the weapons and armour, "are magical? We should probably check the gold ring, too, just in case..."

OOC: Depending on what Yosef finds out, we can consider taking some or all or none of the spare weapons and armour. None of it is really of much use to us, except maybe a few of the shields, but if any of it is magical, then it would be worth taking to sell.

If the mace is magical, then it should obviously go to Bruard. If the battle axe is magical, then it should go to Jeloon and then Yosef should take the magical long sword.

OOC: Ron, how do you handle potions? Is taking a small sip of it enough to get some idea of what it will do?

After the Light spell wears off, Yosef will gather his wits about him and do what he can to help Till and the others get themselves organized. He will also work on securing the respective campsites and making sure that Eyman and all the DAMs are squared off.

Once he's done and returns to the others, he approaches Jeloon and graps her hand in his, tears welling up in his eyes. "You saved our lives, mistress Jeloon. For this, I am ever thankful and indebted to you. I can surely promise you that I will never forget that for the remainder of my days." Yosef then releases her hand and gives her a crisp salute and deep formal bow.
Alethan wrote:He asks, "Yosef, can you prepare a spell in the morning to check and see if any of these," he points to the weapons and armour, "are magical? We should probably check the gold ring, too, just in case..."
Yosef nods his head formally, acknowledging Till's request as he peers at their two dwarven prisoners with what could be interpreted to be malice if one didn't know him better. "It shall be done, master Till. I would, however, like to be present when we... discuss this horrible misunderstanding with our once-thought-well-of friends here. I will need to rest for a while, however, before I can memorize that spell..."

Once the prisoners, the DAMs, and the campsite is secure, Yosef will do his best to relax and slow his still-racing heart, so that he may rest for the time needed to memorize his Detect Magic spell.

OOC: Yosef will need to rest for at least 4 hours and then 30 minutes so that he may then memorize Detect Magic and also replace his other 1st level Shield spell for another Magic Missile spell.

Ron, do we know or can we estimate what the TOD is currently?

Sorry, post more when I can but:

Potions you can definitely sip to get a feel for them, but if it's poison... well it's a chance ya gotta take.

More than half the night is gone, but there is easily 4 hours, maybe more with a late morning start. And the map show's y'all are quite close to that crypt!

OOC: Meh. My saving throws are pretty darn good, so I'll take the chance.

Till takes the slightest sip of the liquid in the potion bottle to see if he can tell what it might be...

Once the light spell has worn off, Bruard checks everyone in the party to see who needs healing. "Please speak up and I'll call upon Shinare to cure your wounds."

OOC: I'm thinking I ought to heal Van as well, but please give me your opinions on that. Ought I save the spell instead for what lies ahead, and let him sleep it off?

IC: your experience in the past leads you to believe that this is a healing potion ;)

Van doesn't speak up at all when you ask. But I'm thinking Yosef might actually look the worst.

OOC: Well, you never know. Always best to be on the safe side! :D Any information on the value of the gems and ring, Ron?

IC: After the slightest sip of the blue potion, Till's eyes light up (no, no, he just gets excited - glowing light doesn't come from his eyes) at the familiar taste and he tells the rest of the party, "It's a healing potion."

"He doesn't look like he's going anywhere, but we should tie him up none the less," he says, staring at Wergrim. "Then you lads can question him all you want in the morning and figure out what to do with him after that."

OOC: Till would have been less interested in saving him and just let him bleed out, I think... He's pretty tired of people pretending to be nice and then turning on the party.

"I'm just a little wired right now from all of this action, so why don't the rest of you try and get a bit more rest and I'll keep an eye out until morning. Then Yosef can check the weapons and armour and that ring and we can examine the map more closely and try to find this tomb."

Till goes over to his gear and grabs his water skin to get a few drinks and wash the blood off of his wound (which he just remembered he had, having forgotten about it in the rush of activity earlier). He binds it up with a bit of spare cloth and sets about honing a new nick out of the edge of his sword.

In the morning, he'll have the hirelings drag the bodies over to the far edge of the canyon and move the items from the dwarven camp that won't be needed over next to them. The rest will be loaded onto the dwarves' DAM.

From your list:
(1) potion of healing (heals 2d4+2)

Your best estimates for prices on the very nice jewelry below:
(1) gem @ 200GP
(2) gems @ 100GP and 250GP
(1) gold ring @ 75GP

During his watch through the early morning hours, Till ponders what kind of bonus to give Rosin and Ancor...

OOC: Their monthly salary is 30sp each. I figure for jumping in and helping out in the fight (not like they had much option, with the dwarves engaging them), a bonus of 10gp each should be sufficient. I'll take this out of Till's remaining personal purse so as to not mess up the treasure division.

In the morning, when everyone is up and about, Till will grab two of the sturdier-looking dwarven shields and pull Ancor and Rosin to one side. "Well done, lads. You've certainly earned this bonus," he says as he gives each of them 10gp. "Obviously, we don't expect it to happen again, but," he then hands each of them a shield, "these might come in handy if it does. Keep your spirits up! You're doing a grand job! I'm sure by the time we make it back to town, you'll have several opportunities to prove your worth again - just remember, I reward my loyal men well."

Then he'll walk back to camp and check on Yosef and his Detect Magic spell...

Yosef tries his best to get some relaxing sleep. In the morning, he snaps to and looks around quickly, realizing that it wasn't just a nightmare. He gathers himself up, grabs a drink of water and consumes some rations before settling down with his spell book to memorize a Detect Magic and another Magic Missile spell.

Once completed, he makes his way over to where his companions are and looks over to Till. "I am ready to cast my Detect Magic spell on the items in question. Regarding the spell's duration, I will have approximately 6 minutes or so before its magic is used up..." Yosef will cast his spell on Ovgur and Wergrim's items and will also check out the contents of the dwarves' DAM and all of the other dwarven items/equipment while the spell is still in effect.

"Well, it looks like we have ourselves a magical battle axe and shield, gentlemen," Till says, upon seeing the eerie glow cast off by the two items.

Till mentally goes through everybody's armour and weapon inventory...

"What might make the best sense, and best use of our own gifts and talents, is if Bruard replaces his stout shield with the magical one, then Jeloon wields the battle axe, and Yosef takes possession of the sword. How does that sound to the rest of you?"

OOC: Agreed on Bruard getting the shield. I would vote to have Jeloon keep the magical longsword, mostly because she's specialized with it & would put it to its best use, imo. I appreciate you thinking of Yosef here, but he still has a decent offensive arsenal of options (especially since he still has 2 charges on the Wand of Fire! :) ) Just a thought: mayhap Yosef could hold onto the healing potion? That way if he gets in trouble and Bruard is engaged/unable to get to him, he'd be able to suppliment his whopping 10 hit points??

Is any one of our npcs, such as Van perhaps, proficient with battle axe?

I was just thinking Jeloon with the battle axe and Yosef with the long sword because she has proficiency with the battle axe and you have proficiency with the long sword. That would give two of our main characters magical weapons. Considering we might be headed into a tomb, where we might very well need such items to hit certain undead, it seems like our best option.

I guess we could ask for a ruling from the GM about Till using a longsword... He certainly wouldn't pass up the chance to wield a magical weapon!
