Ferris
We have tents so we need to pitch them and also corral the horses and mule securely. In some ways it makes sense to actually camp on the are still but after the days cooped up and the constant motion, the gnome is happy on terra firma.
The gnome will busy himself with camp duties and stuff. In a quiet moment he will study his book of legerdemain and arcane chicanery.

Gisella perks up when McTavish volunteers to take a watch "Oh good you and I can take a watch shift together. Always glad to have the company of a fellow dwarf. Who knows maybe later we can have some drinks, share some tales and get to know one another better." she gives McTavish a bit of a look that tells she probably means in a more intimate manner.

Shade
Shade moves off to find Togor. Flashing signs for can we talk private?
So what do you know about this place we are heading? Anything we should know about that has happened on this river bank? Figured since you are a fellow rogue we can help each other out. Any information would be helpful.

Re: Part 1: Fighters Academy (IC Section 1)
Encounter in the night The first 3 hours of watch go uneventful and quiet at about hour 4 of rest there is something noticed by the watch on duty. Beady reflective eyes in the night those that can see in the darkness (depending upon who is on watch) can see the monsters coming towards the camp. Those on watch sound an alert awakening the rest of the camp. From the direction of the swamp comes 6 giant rats (those with infravision can see this and relay it back to the humans.) Gisella comes out of McTavish's tent strapping back on her armor "Giant Rats! To Arms!" the barge captain remains on his barge and remains there ready to defend it or be ready if the group needs to take off down the river, he's holding a strange looking hook weapon. The rest of the mercenaries ready their weapons and light torches to be able to see in the night.
Initiative NPCs [1d10] = 9 PCs [1d10] = 6 the group gets to act first the rats go last.
The rats right now are heading towards the camp and are spotted at about medium range for a shortbow, so there are a couple round of ranged before you would be in melee. The current time is roughly about 2 to 3 am. The rats are in 3 different groups coming from the swamps direction heading eastward towards the camp. The barge is just south of the camp, there are very few to no trees in the area as this is the end of a plain that the camp is set up in.
Actions?

Not one for sleeping in his chainmail, however fancy and light it is, wakes as the guards sound an alarm.
"You gotta be kidding me! Half a dozen whiskered cheese nibblers and you call everyone to arms!" he says, not impressed by the report. He puts his boots on at least and grabs a couple of the firebrands to use as torches. Then clicking his heels together he rises above the middle of the campsite. From the height, ordinarily exposed to archers or spellcrafters, he gets a better view he hopes of any incoming swarm of rats and can direct the field of fire to the most appropriate rat group.
"Over there by the horses. Don't let them get spooked," he calls.

After having donned her armor quickly and unsheathed both Katana's, the Paladin rushes out of her sleeping area and
engages a Giant Rat in Combat!
Main Hand attack on rat [1d20] = 4
Off hand attack on Rat [1d20] = 12
Unsure if 2nd one hits, that would be AC 6
Damage from off hand (left) [1d10+1] = 10+1 = 11

Giant Rat AC is 7 so hit on AC 6 is a hit.
Split Knee the arrow hits the giant rat in one of it's knees splitting it the thing moves at half speed.

From my vantage point above the camp, can I see any other creatures or threats of any kind moving towards the camp?
He watches the battle below, encouraging the skilled fighters to 'get to it' and gives a running commentary on the action. "Ooh, that's gotta hurt! .... a wild slice cuts a tail off ... crispy critters feel flames from the dwarf forge. "
