Here's an attempt at economy … or to make it look like I had a plan.

I'll post responses as per whichever particular group you talked to at the reception.

Some may require follow ups others may not.

Tiglath, what does our contract say concerning who we take orders from? Could the Deputy Minister make us take orders from Smith? Under what conditions could we void the contract because Frank will not put the troops at risk by taking order from that Rupert.

(By the way, Frank is a Rodney I believe)

You are contracted to the Ministry in the person of the Deputy Minister who has set you to the agreed task of providing security and assistance to the diplomatic mission.

The Deputy Minister can specify how he'd like you to perform the task and not pay you if you don't deliver - he's the customer. However, neither he nor anyone outside your chain of command can order your troops about - he pays you for that.

However, he can take "military advice" on your deployment and the extension of the same from whoever he likes...

Thanks Tiglath.

Perhaps Frank overreacted, but he's got nothing but distain for that stubburn and egotistical popinjay. He'll be dammed if he let's that dangerous fool put the delegation or the troops at risk.

We also have leverage in that "stolen valor". Wearing the Lanth insignia without actually being there, puts Smith at a disadvantage. The TO&E for troops deployed there would be available through channels, and he'd know it.

In case it wasn't obvious enough, I'm sure most of the unit staff present can connect the dots.

1. Jakob and Agent Ellis spent time chatting at the post battle party.
2. Early on, Jakob spent a good bit of personal time off base.
3. The twins, and pretty much every other female at the gathering got a warm, but totally professional, smile from him.
4. He's paying so much attention to Ensign Mallory that a nuke could go off right next to him and he'd probably assume it was just more warm feelings.

I’m planning on a gentle hand wave of the time in jump. The various parties you’ve met have more or less “set their stalls out” so if there are any encounters / additional conversations you want to bring on or actions or enquiries you wish to pursue then I hand the reins over to you. Either pitch them here (if complex) or kick them off IC.

I'll post a "wrap up" of the reception in the action thread shortly.

Not going for a sudden stop here by any means just an advisory as to the road ahead. ;)

Jess will deepen contacts with the CCCoC guys, we really need to have them as friends. Going to do business with them after all.

Got to keep good relations with 4DC too. Dallas seems eager to avoid the Twins of Doom, so Jess'll schmooze Duran.

If we're going to butt heads with Captain Dumb-Bunny it will pay to keep the Iyhlua Clan netted-in too. Jess can help, but the heavy lifting on that is more appropriate for the CO, apparently ;) :D

Any spare time Jess is in the hold, working on making that frelling sieve of an Ambulance serviceable....

I can IC those things happily.

You are more or less rebuilding the entire body so it will keep lots of you effortlessly out of trouble for most of the week.

NB The ambulance's emergency low berth is as per the ship board version - i.e. holds four "patients".

Would Prerna be firing it while on board?

It occurs to me that the best way to counter Cpt. Smith is to have all the other groups on our side.

We can't get all of them though - SuSAG is not amenable. But there is a chance with all the others, which should outweigh those two.

Might mean someone has to be nice to Eddie. Perhaps we unfreeze Trooper Easy for an afternoon. I didn't say that. I would never say that. How could you think such a thing

Seriously though, we ought to make nice where we can.

Question: are there any Marines with Smith, in Low, or is it just him and Liv/Jodi?

Probably not. But, there just might be a practice mode, since it's an electrically-driven system, that steps the velocity way, way down, making it possible to fire it in a pistol range... :geek:

Mostly, though, she will run it through its paces with no live fire; things like tweaking the stock, sling, accessories (bipod?), and sights for her personal tastes, making sure the mags are charged and are loaded with the expected ammo, and so on.

As already said, we need to get the groups on our side, understand their needs. Smith is out, obviously, but we try and remain neutral with SuSAG.

Frank can help with the The Iyhlua Clan :-)

Looks like Jess has already put herself forward with a couple of groups.

So we need to get in with the The Prospectors Consortium. If nobody wants to take them then on Frank will, with Voss's help.

Frank also wants to to speak with the Deputy Minister, so we can understand the itinerary. He wants to understand where and when the group(s) plan to be so we can determine how best to deploy to protect them, and how this might interface with the Baron's troops. He also wants to try and form a working relationship with the Minister (or a higher-up minion will do in a push, bit I'd prefer the minister), so that they can both understand how each others hierarchies work so that there are no misunderstandings on the ground. This is also an opportunity to diffuse anything Smith might be saying to the Minister about the group. I'm not sure I'm explaining myself well, but if we are to protect them then we need to understand how they will be working on Inchin, and this will also help to ensure we don't get in their way.

At some point during the week, Frank will check out the gravitics on the two vehicles.

Jakob will alternate between his loadout (armor, weapons, gear) and the standard Marine loadout. Working to solidify his "Instruction-2" skill, he writes up training plans for rapid gear up, deployment from the ship and vehicles, sensor recognition of the Baron's forces, and team movement. That's mostly morning stuff. In the afternoon he'll work on tactical scenarios sandboxing, and the training plans for those. All the staff are invited, and whomever else Frank thinks might benefit from being there. While everyone has some level of tactical expertise, if not formal training, there are a lot of backgrounds and different tactical and stragetic philosophies. Jakob knows he sees things through a Marine visor; getting everyone on the same page, no matter what book it's from, is his goal.

In between will be physical training, lending his mechanical skills to fix the vehicles, learning their control systems so he can drive them on planet, and spending time learning Imperial Navy stuff. :P

Skip will attend. Also if nobody has better than Mech-1 he can make an attempt to remote rig the gun on the vehicle.

Only Mech 1 here, so go for it. Thanks for the assist. ( I just wasted a natural 12 on scoring Scotch, so I'd best not risk complex mechanics  :D )

We've got oodles of .50's to play with.

Truck's meant to be non-combat though - not even pistol-proof.

Jess is happy to attend. Good way to tie the unit together. She can help with advice on the use of vehicles. What they can't do really, considering what we have.

Hey, take success where you can! If Int can help, Jakob rolled a 9 to contribute to the "how do we fix this thing" of the vehicles. If no Int, then it's just a 7.
Mechanic-1, Int-12 [2d6+3] = 6+3 = 9

I think Tiglath is using CT, with Striker and AHL elements as the ruleset. If so, then there is no Int DM. That came in with later versions. All CT has is the Advantageous Dex/Str DM on weapons I believe.

That's the thing with Traveller, all the small differences between versions - the core system is the same, but the mechanics evolve ( and sometimes those mutations are fit for purpose and carry on into future generations, sometimes they were a dead-end :) ).
