I think that Frank would point the following out as diplomatically as possible (but perhaps a little cooly)
  1. They weren't asking to be paid during the trip, but trying to improve the success of the mission, gratis.
  2. There will be officers travelling warm to prepare for the trip and work with the diplomats to plan the security of the endeavour. It's in the interest of the safety of their own people that we are as prepared as possible.
  3. If some of our troops are going to be travelling low berth then it won't be happening unless we are happy with the medical systems on board.
Ok, from what T has said the last one is not an issue. I think the second one is essential to ensure we are prepped for the mission, and that the team and the diplomats have had time to get to know each other (and officers clearly include NCO's). If they don't agree to the above then I think we ask to speak to the diplomat that is actually running the mission rather than the pen-pusher organising it, and if they refuse that then I think we should walk away.

Have we been told the size of the diplomatic team?

On a different note, are we all happy with calling ourselves The Honourable Mercenary Company? It gets my vote.

Sorry, something else while I remember...

The place has no water. Does combat armour include some kind of water supply, or can we get one fitted? Or is it possible to make it from oxygen and hydrogen, assuming they are available in the atmosphere. I'm just thinking in case we get stuck out in the desert.

Here's  more shopping options (when I know I said I was trying to help you along!).

A desert suit per man (1000Cr inegrated with your armour) would really help Inchin to be bearable and the TL13 (NB available on Collace only) Fusion stile with solar powered compressor would actually be "priceless". The other items are options and the sort of kit you'll run into on Inchin.

I also found the "coldsled" (included at the bottom).

Desert Suit, Advanced (TL 9): An all-in-one suit designed to
minimize moisture loss by trapping sweat between the porous inner
layer and impermeable outer one. The suit is refl ectorised to reduce
the heating eff ect of the sun (though a dulled or camoufl age option
is also available). It includes a hood, face mask and goggles. Cr.
1,000.

Complete Hydro-Reclamation Suit (CHRS) (TL 11): This complete
coverage bodysuit is designed to recycle all of a body’s fl uids
and wastes back into usable materials for the body in order to
survive much longer in a desert or other arid environment. Like its
predecessors, the suit is reflectorised to reduce the heating effect of
the sun. It covers the entire body, covering all orifices and inserting
several ‘replenishment’ tubes into the body. Wearing an empty
CHRS can effectively allow the character to go up to thirty days
without needing water and fifteen days without food before needing
to have its internal scrubbers and injectors cleaned. Cr. 10,000; 6
kg.

Hydro-collector (TL 11): An oval-shaped bowl of sorts sitting atop
a wide-footed tripod nearly a metre tall when extended, the hydrocollector
uses tiny electromagnetic pulses to draw moisture out of
the air and collect it as drinkable water. One eight-hour collection
session will provide a certain amount of drinking water depending
on the average humidity in the local atmosphere. In arid areas this
will produce enough water for one man-day. In temperate areas;
three man-days. In moist or humid areas; fi ve man-days. The device
is solar powered and recharges while it is collecting, in most cases.
Cr. 1,000; 8kg.

Solar Vaporator (TL 10): A device using solar panels to generate
power during the day (and storing it in an internal battery) and
collect moisture from the air, especially at night. Yields 2 litres of
water per 24 hours in standard or dense atmospheres, 1 litre per 24
hours in thin atmospheres and half a litre per 24 hours in very thin
atmospheres. The Vaporator is stored in a compact (50 cm x 20 cm
x 20 cm) package and is unfolded for use. Cr.1,250.

Fusion Stile (TL 13): A fusion stile is built around a small fusion unit
which will run continuously for 5 years. The stile has a hopper which
can take fluids or organic matter. Collection areas within the stile
allow potable water to be extracted, or a just-about-edible nutrient
product normally known as “glop”. The exact composition of glop
varies depending upon what is put into the stile and in some cases
vital nutrients will be missing. The stile’s readout advises the user
as to how good (nutritionally speaking) his or her glop will be today
but even the best technology cannot make glop taste any better.
Glop can be output as dry, jaw-busting bars or a damp and fairly
disgusting porridge. The stile can also be set to simply produce pure
water, or water with a high mineral content. The stile has a power output
socket and a cable for recharging items like powered tools and includes two rechargeable hand lamps which can be connected by cable or taken elsewhere. They will run for six hours if unplugged. It also has a built-in light unit and a heater that can be used to warm a shelter or to provide localized heat for
cooking. Marooned starfarers with a fusion stile will usually find their food
and water needs are taken care of. However, many users cite the
stile’s food output as the single greatest drain on their will to live.
Fortunately, the stile can also be used to distil alcoholic beverages
into spirits for medicinal or recreational use. Cr. 4,500.

NB To add a solar power option and filter/compressor unit for Inchin's atmosphere to the above 500Cr.

Cryoberth (TL 10): A cryoberth, or ‘icebox’ is a coffin-shaped machine
similar to the low or frozen berths used on some spacecraft. The main
difference is that a cryoberth works much faster than a low berth,
freezing and preserving its occupant almost instantly. A cryoberth can
be used to place a severely injured individual into stasis until medical
treatment can be provided. A cryoberth’s internal power system
can function for up to one week on its own but a berth is usually
connected to a vehicle’s power supply. Wt. 200 Kg, Cr. 50,000.

Hopefully answering shaidar's posts above:

the diplomats will grudingly allocate you two staterooms (It becomes clear that the administrator simply doesn't understand matters military).

the low berth revival systems are top spec and as safe as can be. The autodoc has medic 4 and is supervised by a nurse practitioner with a specialty in cryo medicine.

desert kit / desert proofing the unit covered in my previous post (Min: a 5KCr TL13 "stile" (still?) and 1Kcr per man)

the diplomatic team is still being assembled and will occupy at least five staterooms

you really do need a name! ;)

We'll take six staterooms, and stuff any ancillary diplomatic flunkies into the low berths. That should give the CO his own bunk, and the rest of us can rotate.

If those of you who are hardware aware want to start allocating gear, we can probably spin up the unit fairly quickly.

I've taken a copy of the kitlist, I'll crunch the numbers..... Thursday, no, Friday, realistically. Busy few days ahead. Hopefully the 'phone line gets fixed tomorrow though.

We need to finish recruitment before we can finalise the shopping list. Having one fewer troopers to equip with CA makes a big difference to what else we can afford for each.

Jakob has a little money. I'm just trying to not "meta-game" and have him throw it at the group.

Besides, dating an Imperial Marshall could get expensive. :P

So, are we saying we have a good idea what kit we want to buy, but need to complete recruitment first?

Is it worth setting up a poll to choose the company name?

Yeah we just add the climate control gear to the previous load-out and recalculate based on the number of people we manage to get. No point spending on 21 sets of CA if we only have 18 bodies to wear 'em.

A poll might be a good idea. Focus everyone on making a decision

I was going to make a poll, but it seems players don't have the right permissions, so it'll have to be done by Tig (assuming he has the right permissions) . I'll try collate the options a bit later, so he doesn't have much to do.

I found this in FAQ but I'm not sure if players have the ability to create poll. If not please list your options and I'll bring the democracy! No getting used to it though - normal tyranny will be restored asap! :D

How do I create a poll?
When posting a new topic or editing the first post of a topic, click the “Poll creation” tab below the main posting form; if you cannot see this, you do not have appropriate permissions to create polls. Enter a title and at least two options in the appropriate fields, making sure each option is on a separate line in the text area. You can also set the number of options users may select during voting under “Options per user”, a time limit in days for the poll (0 for infinite duration) and lastly the option to allow users to amend their votes.

Thanks Tig.

I've tried and can't create a poll, so I really appreciate you doing it for us. I'll post a list of options soon.

Thanks again

Re. main thread:

Point out that it seems sensible to have the troops you're paying to protect you ready to perform that function immediately upon arrival. Disembarking is a danger point, better to be strong there.

As to shopping:

Adjust to 20x ChamCA, 20x CES saves 36.5k

25x Desert Suit upgrade = 25k

Fusion Stile w. solar/filter 5k

Solar Vaporator 1.25k

5.25k spare ( +2.333 from previous estimate for c. 7.5k uncommited )
