To an extent, but it goes deeper. A man may live in the wilderness, and it would hone his survival skills, but it wouldn't make him a barbarian. I think there has to be a cultural component and you have to be born into it, or cross over it during a long period of submersion. Tracking, knowing the land, these are Ranger skills. Raging/Shape shifting are different, and can't be something you just decide to train in.Olorin Crebain wrote:The question.....is Barbarism a instinct rather than something that can be taught. Something that develops all by it self from living out in the wilds?

Re: C&C: Into the Darkenfold
Okay, you want me to continue this in Character Gen?
I did some thinking and thought I would start out in some Orcish Barbarian tribe that had taken some human prisoners. My Human mother was then used and gave birth to me. A half-Orc child, who was accepted into the tribe, but wasn't really well respected because of my half human heritage. It wasn't after my rite of passage or manhood ceremony that I was banished from the tribe due to a conspiracy.......While in my wandering I almost died until I was found by some members of benevolent order of Monks who soon adopted me.
Another way we could do this is.....
I grew up in a tribe of human barbarians, when my Orcish heritage became more apparent I was soon ostracised perhaps not long after my rite of passage. While in my wanderings, I was almost killed if not found by benevolent order of monks who nursed me back to health and taught me their ways.
I think I need some of that help you told me about. As I don't have any books on the game world yet. Yes, I do have Castle & crusade books, just not any on that game world. Not yet anyway.

Very understandable. The Players Guide to Aihrde is a nice addition as it has some history, the gods, almanc, etc. You don't need it, but the least expensive way to get the info. Let me think about it, and I'll give you some ideas on Monks over in the game. Just so you know I tend to have a slower posting rate on weekends because I'm not always at the computer like I am on weekdays.

My second option sounds better to me, would you agree?

Either one works so it's fine which ever you choose.
Here's a link to the Troll Lords new site on World Anvil. All the Aihrde source materials are up and available for free at this time so you can get a bit of info about the world. This campaign is going to start in Brindisium and head into the Darkenfold. I'd think Orc or Human starting tribe would be somewhere out in the area West of the Rhodope Mtns in a great plain called Dulset, or at least the Western edges of the mountains.

Yes, I found the place on the map, it's in the west to the south a little and from what I read of the lesser divisions of humanity, I might be Ustracan.

Yep that's it!
Re: C&C: Into the Darkenfold
Bumping this up as I'm still looking for players. This will be a bit of a sandbox with lots of options for growth on board as well as on the character sheet. This is s a free city, and as such about the only rule is the winners get to walk away from the fight.

Hey, I've been able to recruit some players from other platforms. If anyone else is interested let me know.
