Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Ozborn, feeling stupid for his hesitation, ducks for cover behind the nearest tree. He looks down at his wound and winces. "One more hit like that and I'm done." he says to himself.
"You guys got this! You're doing great!" he yells, making himself as small as possible behind the tree, suddenly wishing he hadn't thrown his bow to the ground...

Day 5 - Morning - The Forest/Along the River
Round 4
Party Initiative: [1d6] = 6, NPC/Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 1
Segments: Party 1st, Ozborn 3rd, Hobgoblins 6th
[1d100] = 3
While Ozborn limps to cover, and Thurinor cast another Magic Missile, the others make their ways nearer to the hobgoblins at varying speeds.
Swilbosh is the first to arrive, emerging running from the woods to the left of the hobos intent on a charge. He realizes he won't be able to, unless he wants to trip over the fallen (but still moving) form of an hobgoblin lying on the ground. He then sets out to give the humanoid a coup de grace with his trusty axe.
Ozborn begins changing his weapons...
Malone with Stonjuz in tow advance cautiously and come to where the hobgoblins lie. They see a crouched archer nearer to them looking around distraught, specially at the sight of the lizardman who is standing almost over his companion with a bared axe. For some reason, Malone does not press on, but Stonjuz advances to connect and makes a terrible show of fiddling his quarterstaff around and hitting nothing. He can see in the eyes of his that the creature is more surprised at his poor martial display than anything else.
Then the hobgoblin archer's head detonates partially in a shower of of bone and gore amidst a flash of magical energy, and the now-dead body tumbles like a deflated sack.
[1d100] = 100
Ouch! guess where most of the hobgoblin gore landed on? Sorry Stonjuz
In the distance Thurinor goes f**k yeah! to himself at the sight of just how effective his last spell of the day was.
The fate of the last hobgoblin is equally unpleasant. Swilbosh takes the time to let his axe sing its song, and he is joined by Ogirdor with spear and hand axe. It is impossible to say which of the weapons delivers the final blow before the creature stops screaming from being poked, stabbed, hacked and slashed.
End of Round 4 - Combat Ends

Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Stonjuz turns to face a majority of party members, puts his hands to body, and once to turtle, to make sure he has not been hit anywhere, blows two 'snot rockets' and says,.... "By Boccob's boogers. Now that's the way to flush 'em out. Must've been that spell I cast on......wait. Im outta spells? I really gotta control me'self. Can we rest here?"
Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Malone answers, Great battle, friends. I think we will all find our way home with this crew, after all.

"Didn't we just rest?" Andrin comes closer, taking only a casual look at the dead humanoids. "The day is still young, so why rest again?" He then cleans his wound with some water from his skin and makes a makeshift bandage from a strip of cloth that he tears from his cloak.
Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
"No, we aint rested yet. That's what I been going on about. 'Still needs ta' rest and study the rod too."
Stonjuz spent his last spell just before finding the rod. Unless I missed something, we havent rested since.
"Quickly now, check the bodies for clues, valuables, and ..... valuable clues. hehe."

Thurinor can't help smiling at his final triumph of the day. "I only meant to knock him out, you know?" Then he slumps down with his companions and does his best to wash and bandage the nasty bite wounds he has received. "I think I go no further this day, unless it is to a safe place to camp for the night. Between carnivorous plants and rabid dogs turned loose by cowardly hobs, I'm spent."

Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Ozborn comes out of hiding. "All good here? Nice job, guys. I knew you had it in you." He pauses at the mangled corpses of the last two hobgoblins and turns his head to the side, stifling his gag reflex. "Man I feel light-headed. Maybe it's the blood I lost" he thinks.
Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Without a word, Swilbosh turns and follows the hobgoblins trail a few metres to check there are no further enemies steathly approaching.
Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Malone sees Swilbosh's action and speaks, Ahh, smart move there. We should move on a bit. This may be a heavy traffic area, and not good for camping.

Ogirdor will also try to scan the area for more tracks, and will try to identify the way from which the hobos came from.

Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Thurinor reluctantly rises from his slumped position and looks about for a stout walking stick to aid his movement in the absence of healing magics. "You've spoiled me, Stonjuz my friend. I had forgotten what it felt like..." He'll fall into his usual marching spot and try to keep up...
Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Helping the wizard to the path, Stonjuz says, in a concerned voice, "Fer the love of ....How long do you think we can press on at this pace, Ranger. Look at us! We must rest here, or just up ahead, no further. In fact, if an' you ask me, we could and should, retreat an acre or two. Whyyyyy, that spot back there that...."
The dwarf's words fall into a murmur as the group presses ahead. ".... just up ahead here. Yes. No further than just up ahead, Poo."

Just wait here while I check the area, my friend. says Ogirdor as he moves on to track as previously indicated.Stonjuz wrote:Helping the wizard to the path, Stonjuz says, in a concerned voice, "Fer the love of ....How long do you think we can press on at this pace, Ranger. Day 5 - Morning - The Forest/Along the River
While the ranger checks the area the rest of the party despoils the bodies of their fallen foes. Between themselves the hobgoblins owned mixed coinage adding up to 4 gp. One had a pouch around his neck with a small (empty) snuff box inside, of superior make and laced with obsidian stones it looks quite valuable. The leader who led the dogs also had metal key on his belt. Their studded leather armors and ill-made and ill-fitting to any but a large man. Tallying the weapons gets 3 shortbows, 3 longswords and 3 quivers containing a grand total of 24 arrows.
As expected, Ogirdor determines that the hobgoblin hunters came from somewhere deep into the forest, to the west. Though it is impossible to tell if their original point of departure was in that direction or how far it lies. Neither him nor Swilbosh find signs of any more enemies, and the tracks seem to correspond to the number of foes they just faced: a trio of dogs and a trio of humanoids.
Following the tracks to the woods carries the risk of the party loosing itself as per normal rules.

Stonjuz starts to make a seating area. Kicking limbs and small stones away, the dwarf says, "When they come back."
The group momentarily waits for the dwarf to finish the sentence but it soon becomes apparent that he may already have, and that he may have been talking to the turtle, again.

Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
We can try to follow the tracks left by the hobgoblins, but I believe most of us are short of our optimal fighting condition. It is still morning but it might be wise to set camp and spend the day tending our wounds before moving on, as Stonjuz suggested.

Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Thurinor is surprised at Ogirdor's skill at magical healing. "And here I thought only our dwarf could give such aid. I feel much better now. Maybe just a short rest and we could carry on," he says, marveling at his previously wounded limb.
Thurinor is at full HPs. Wasn't Oz down too?
I had completely forgotten that Ogirdor is multiclassed. I thought we had used up all our healing for the day. If Og's got another as security, I don't see why we couldn't press forward for a short while longer... cautiously...

Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Swilbosh returns to the group and wearily strips off his pack. Its not long though before he has his knife and a block of wood out and he is whittling. He continues while the next move is decided.
Re: Action Thread #9 - The Forest
Malone sees Swilbush return and looks around.
Hopefully that means nothing more coming our way? I still would feel a bit more comfortable if we got away from this hunting traffic and moved down river a bit more. Set up camp an hour more down there instead.
