Sia

Sia will move to Goliath and make sure none of the flying mosquitos get to his horse and any around him. Any that come close get shot.

[1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7 Long Bow

[1d8] = 6 Arrow Damage

[1d20+2] = 1+2 = 3 Long Bow

After 3 continuous misses Sai tosses the Long Bow into the wagon and draws his throwing daggers

Cassius

On top of the wagon, Cassius is able to take in the surroundings. He sees the horses being attacked by the creatures, and plans to take care of that. But first, he has to remove the threat in his face.

Standing still and firing 3 times, as he has the archer kit.

At the one facing him: 1)Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6
2)Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 8+3 = 11
Longbow damage: [1d8+6] = 1+6 = 7

At one attacking the horses:
3)Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 12+3 = 15
Longbow damage: [1d8+6] = 8+6 = 14

Dinner Guests 2

The blood-sucking critters swoop and dive, flap and screech while trying to sink their long proboscis into fleshy parts on their intended prey. Kranston swings wildly, calling upon the gods of gravy to aid him...and his prayers are answered as he swats one of the creatures so hard it sails over the others and lands in the woods some twenty feet away!
The other blood sucker tries to grab onto his feathered cap, but Kranston manages to avoid its claws and keep his hat on at the same time.

Sai and Cassius likewise avoid the bloodsuckers, but not Muldgarr, while he tries to fend it off with steel, the nimble critter manages to latch onto his shoulder and drive its poker directly into the top of his neck! (Dmg 1)

Sai runs toward Goliath, firing arrows at the creatures, but hitting none. With a grunt of disgust, he doffs the bow and draws steel.

Cassius, however, shows off his marksmanship by picking off two of the flapping neck jabbers in mid air!

Initiative Order:
Kranston (2), Stirges (3), Muldgarr & Sai (7), Cassius (9)

Stirge initiative: [1d10] = 3
Stirge hp: [1d8+1] = 3+1 = 4
Muldgarr initiative: [1d10] = 7
Muldgarr attacks: [1d20+1] = 5+1 = 6 [1d8+1] = 2+1 = 3 [1d20+1] = 2+1 = 3 [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2

Stirge attacks Kranston: [1d20] = 7 [1d3] = 1
Stirge attacks Muldgarr: [1d20] = 14 [1d3] = 1 > Muldgarr down 1 hp
Stirge attacks Sai: [1d20] = 3 [1d3] = 3
Stirge attacks Cassius: [1d20] = 2 [1d3] = 1

Each of you has one stirge attacking, except for Cassius; and one is attached to Muldgarr. A few are still flying around the horses. Actions!

Sai

Sai attacks the Stirge trying to bite him. Drawing his bastard sword and wielding it two handed.

[1d20] = 18 Bastard sword attack

[2d4] = 3 bastard sword damage

Keeps an eye out for any on the horses.

Cassius

Cassius winces as he sees Muldgarr get bitten by the creature. He starts to aim in that direction, but the thrashing of wings and friend prevent a clean shot.

He turns his attention to the swarm harassing the horses. One shot per harasser.

Dinner Guests 3

Realizing the mounts are in danger, Kranston backs up, step by step, toward "Eustace!"
His staff connects again, addling one of the critters, sending it flapping away.

While the critters flap around, trying to decide to attack or flee, one takes a parting grab at Sai, fails miserably, and then screeches in agony as he slices one of its wings off with his bastard sword! It flops around on the ground, helpless.

The bloodsucker attached to Muldgarr slurps contentedly (1 hp) until he drives his dagger clean through its bloated body! With a grunt, he pulls it from his neck and flings it to the ground. "What the hell?" he grimaces, jerking a handkerchief from his belt and holding it against his neck.

Cassius is in the "zone" > nocking, drawing, and firing to deadly effect...killing three "on the wing" in a matter of seconds!

With their numbers seriously depleted, the few remaining creatures flap away into the darkness, likely returning from whence they came. Once they are gone, the three merchants emerge from hiding, nodding in admiration to their guardians.
Even Malin grumbles a compliment to Cassius. "Mighty fine shootin'...for a cook."
At least, it was meant as a compliment...wasn't it? The merchant leader helps himself to a bowl of stew and looks around the camp.

"Has anyone seen Montego?" asks Emerell, a look of concern on her lovely face.

Panting, Kranstön walks over to comfort Eustace, who frankly seems unbothered by the whole ordeal.

"Did you see that, Eustace? We vanquished them, heroically," he says.

"I'm hungry," he adds and goes to get some stew.

With his huge arms loaded with fire wood, Montego makes his way back into camp, sweating and bloodied, wondering what he missed.

"I have found something......disturbing in the forest nearby. It seems that we have set up camp very close to a worgs den. I was able to kill one of them, but I fear there are more. I spotted what must be their leader, a huge multi-legged beast, exiting the cave and heading into the forest. Then I went inside for a look around, but all I found was an angry, now dead worg. I heard others coming for me, so I escaped back to camp to tell you all the bad news."

"I fear that if we stay here, we will have trouble in the night, so we should either plan on doubling the night watch, or pack back up and continue moving through the night. We cant afford to lose horses to those abominations in the dark."

He checks the condition of the horses, wondering how badly the merchants will complain if they decide the camp must be moved further down the trail.

"Must we really break camp?" Malin asks, disgruntled. "How do you know there was more than two of those creatures you killed? Did you cover your tracks or did you leave an easy trail for something to follow?"

Sai

Montego, Good to see you back, I was just preparing to go looking for you.

Pauses for Montego's reply.

So what do we all think should we move or just go hunt down the worgs now. I anyone badly injured from the Bloodsucking Bats or whatever they were? I can do some healing if needed.

Takes a few moments and gives his horse Goliath a good look over and check for any injuries.

Muldgarr Petri

What were those creatures? I feel woozy, maybe I do need some help, but I must inquire on Nan-tathren for I fear she may have been attacked as well. He drops to one knee....

Sai

Sai moves to Muldarr and moves him to sit against the real wheel of the nearest wagon and then preforms some healing and bandaging. Breaking open his healing bag using what he needs.

This should make you feel better. Let me see what I can do with some bandages if I doesn't help I will use some magic. Just sit still and I will make it as painless as I can.

Wis 16 = [1d20] = 1 Healing Check

[1d3] = 3 HP Healed

Backing up and looking at his work. You still don't look so good.

Pulling out his Holy Symbol he casts Cure Light Wounds

[1d8] = 6 CLW

[1d8] = 5 CLW

Well that looks better. You will have to take it easy for a while. You may still feel light headed but yuou should be able to travel for a while and be ok.

Montego responds to Malin's questions.

"There were more inside the cave. I didnt actually see them, but I could hear them chasing me as I ran out."

"I didnt cover my tracks, because the cave is just right over there, a little ways into the forest. They wouldnt need to follow tracks to sniff us out so close."

"It's the big one that worries me. That one seemed different, bigger and stronger, smarter than the others."

He turns to the rest of the group.

"If we dont want to pull up camp, perhaps we could all go back there together to sort this out. I am no coward, but there is strength in numbers, and if the big one returns, we will be better off fighting in a large group."

The large ranger awaits the consideration of the group and the caravan leader.

Cassius

He simply nods at Malin to acknowledge the half-compliment. "Those Wyverns went down easier than I thought they would." He hops down and starts examining his bow for wear. "The stew may still be hot Kranston, eat up."

Cassius goes to examine the creatures, muttering "I wonder how much meat is on that, and what it tastes like."

He keeps quiet, knowing it's not his place to make this decision.

Decisions to Make...

After checking on Eustace, Kranston makes checks on the kettle of stew, and Cassius confirms it is likely still hot. As the Dwarf helps himself to a bowl, Sai prepares to seek after Montego...but then the missing ranger shows up with an armload of firewood and a bloody shoulder.
While Montego tells of his encounter with the worg, Sai turns his attention to Muldgarr, the only person wounded in the battle with the stirges...or "wyverns" if you believe Cassius. Opening his healing bag, Sai cleans the puckered hole in Muldgarr's neck, and bandages it well (3 HP = healed up! No need to use your CLW spells; you'll need 'em later I'm sure :twisted: ).

Cassisus is examining one of the "wyverns" for a possible meat source while Montego and Malin have an intense conversation.

"It's the big one that worries me. That one seemed different, bigger and stronger, smarter than the others."
Malin sighs in disgust, putting his hands on his hips.
"That's just great! Blaze a fracking trail right up to the camp! Just great!"

Tell the Commander our guards decided gathering pelts better served their needs than the protection of the realm of Furyondy?"

Just then...from somewhere in the woods...a wolf howls...and then another...and then another.

Montego sucks in a huge breath of air, trying to calm his nerves during the conversation with Malin.

“You are right, of course Malin. We can’t run off and leave you now.”

To the others, he continues.

“We must form a plan quickly! We must devise a way to defeat a few of these worgs so the others see we are dangerous and leave us alone. If you have any suggestions, now is the time to voice them. If any of you have the ability to heal, or a potion, I could use a little aid if we are to fight.”

Montego suggests forming the wagons in as close as we can get to a circle and keeping the horses in the middle, asking the wagon masters if that would even be possible.

Muldgarr

He shakes his head in agreeance with Montego...Yes, we must not forget the aerial assault we just took as well! Those bat like creatures like blood and know where to find it. Circling the horses with wagons and getting our caravan folks up into the safety of the trees, would be beneficial for their existence...
