OOC I
Re: OOC I
I'm less concerned with the formatting than where the discussion will take place.Darklin2 wrote:That was supposed to be an OOC- Just to give my input for the order. Red didn't take for some reason.
I would much prefer you guys discuss and finalize your marching order her, in the ooc thread, and not mixed in with the action thread.

Re: OOC I
"Marching order" is still hypothetical... for this encounter we're positioned on the boat. Right? We can set our "marching orders" when we reach shore.
I think we have posts from all six characters now.
How we doing?
I am assuming it is just initiative order from here? (Loran throws rocks, then Tharmyr/Wyreth try to talk to it?)
For those describing held actions, do you need any specific details from us? Do you want us to post rolls conditionally in that circumstance, given the speed of PbP?

Re: OOC I
Apologies for the delay on this one. A few quick comments:
Yes, no marching order is required while in the boat (I actually have more exact positioning while you're in it). It will be important to establish a default order once you're back on land, however.
A part of the delay in this game in particular has to do with -- well, three things:
In fact, I didn't even realize their was a post here in the OOC thread for me to respond to (my Inbox is littered with unread email I need to catch up on), and was actually just checking in on my own accord because I know an update here is very overdue. Again, my apologies. But, I will almost certainly be moving the game again tomorrow (Sunday).
With work getting back under control and my 2e game potentially coming to an end, take my word that things here in this one will definitely start fall into a more consistent pattern very soon.

A part of the delay in this game in particular has to do with -- well, three things:
- The map. Plus, because it's the first encounter, I need to find tokens for each character; plus any other relevant tokens. This is actually a biggie (for me).
- I unexpectedly missed four full days of work the other week and have been very stressed while trying to catch back up -- which I almost completely did this past Friday.
- I've been paying an extra level of attention to my 2e game, where the group is entering the 17th round of combat in what is shaping up to be the potential final battle in that game. I'm very interested to know how everything shakes out in that one.

I was not remembering, last night when I wrote this, that today (Sunday) was Mother's Day, which is not like any routine day for me.dmw71 wrote: But, I will almost certainly be moving the game again tomorrow (Sunday).
So...
I am going to start working on the next update now, but there's a chance I might not be able to wrap it up until tomorrow.

The map is set up, but the actual update itself is still in progress.dmw71 wrote:I am going to start working on the next update now, but there's a chance I might not be able to wrap it up until tomorrow.
This, unfortunately, is going to need to wait until tomorrow.

Re: OOC I
This game will definitely be updated later tonight. In the meantime, however, a question:
Which type of token do you prefer?
Feel free to share your feedback and/or discuss.
Which type of token do you prefer?
- Actual tokens that I've purchased, that I do the best I can to match to your character's descriptions?
- Or tokens made from images you've provided for your characters? (Note: I'm missing one for Qilynn.)
Feel free to share your feedback and/or discuss.

Re: OOC I
I don't have a real preference as both are good.
If I needed to pick, I would pick the round tokens with our images because, well, they're our images. We obviously like them. I also imagine that using what we gave had to save you effort over trying to match our descriptors yourself.
I appreciate the work and care you put into this. I am used to "theater of the mind" and trying to get more used to using tokens as I teach my daughter (she's very tactile and visual). I am learning a lot from watching you work.

I'm fine with either. Here is my image for Qilynn:

Re: OOC I
You pick. You've run a few games with each. And you have to deal with moving them around.

Re: OOC I
Actually... I literally just learned how to create tokens from images last night. Out of necessity. The opponent you're about to encounter -- I swear, for the life of me, no tokens exist for it. None that I could find, anyway. So, another part of the delay in getting this one moving again was my scramble to figure out how to create the tokens I need for this first encounter.Monsieur Rose wrote:You pick. I'm using the first simple method I found, that I got to work, and it's actually kind of cool. The only real negative in my mind is that the images supplied aren't all... similar. Some are just a close-up of a face (Tharmyr) and some are full height (Kari). Both are cool, and there's nothing wrong with either, but they seem just a bit out of place when viewed together.
I think I'll go ahead and use tokens that I actually create for this game (I suspect there will be more monsters down the line that "official" tokens may be tough to come by). It'll also be good practice, and over time I can explore other methods of doing it.
Now, back to work on the update for this one.

Re: OOC I
Anyone else read that as "you're about to face a monster the likes of which you've never seen before" and feel a shudder run through them?

This is awesome to hear, man. I appreciate it.Marullus wrote:I appreciate the work and care you put into this. I am used to "theater of the mind" and trying to get more used to using tokens as I teach my daughter (she's very tactile and visual). I am learning a lot from watching you work.
If you ever have questions about how something you see here done, don't hesitate to ask. The process is more involved and complicated when prepping for a live game, where players will log in and being controlling their own tokens, but for my purposes (basically setting everything up for battlefield maps), it's really pretty simple.
For example, the tokens I created... I learned what I needed by watching the first few minutes of this video:
The tool he talks about and uses -- Token Tool --- still works, but the video is so old (2016) that the software had changed. Continuing to watch the video wouldn't have been really helpful because; well, everything was different. So I just started playing around with the tool for a while and eventually figured out it. The basics of it, anyway.
But, seriously, I'm glad to help if you have any questions.

That's exactly what I was going for. Expect a LOT of unexpected in this one.

Strangely, I'm only seeing 3 healing potions on dndbeyond: greater, superior, and supreme. There is also an elixir of health.

Perhaps use the Paint app (simple, on Windows forever) to crop headshots out before tokenizing them? The only real negative in my mind is that the images supplied aren't all... similar. Some are just a close-up of a face (Tharmyr) and some are full height (Kari).
