"Thank you," he says as he takes a small sip. "Always did enjoy good tea. Tea and tobacco," he says with a faraway smile as he pats his pouch. "The smells of home." He shakes off the wave of fond memories to focus on the present.
"Do you know if the various factions war with one another, or do they reserve their ire for outsiders? I hope to spend more time exploring the jungle nearby and am attempting to learn the ins and outs before I wade into something I know nothing about," he admits.

Max
Max returns to his tent after buying the hammock, hammer, and nails. Proceeds to put the hammock up. Installs it over his bedroll and chest across the center and end poles.
Talking out loud: A library isnt very functional with out access to books. Maybe it should be a hospital. And i'll call it. Max's Anti- Sickness Hut. M.A.S.H. for short.
So i will need at least 2 more hammocks, 2 blankets, bucket of clean water, whiskey or other pain killer, herbs, candles and some kind of examination table.

The half-elf nods at the thanks. "I have not seen any fighting among them yet, but I believe it might happen at times. I myself have encountered 5 different clans of the phanaton. None of them were outright hostile towards me, but some were less than happy to have someone traipsing through their territory. None of them speak the common tongue, so that has made communications......difficult at times as well."Paladin wrote:Cealwyn Blackthorn

Darklin will rise the next morning and make sure Keg is awake and able to fend for himself. Gathers the broken barrels and drags them outside. And gets to work trying to fix the last 4 that are leaking. Casts Mending on the one he couldn't fix and sets it aside for later delivery to Marge.

Daisy
Daisy scowls at this word. The transformation from chirpy girly-girl to hard-as-nails Head Nurse is immediate.
Then Ah reckon Ah need to go talk to this Constable. One of ya'll mind pointing the way for me?
It's hard for a Halfling to stomp- especially in soft, sandy soil- but Daisy stomps away to find the Constable.

Cealwyn nods along and makes mental notes at pertinent points. "Have any villagers or adventurers managed to pick up tidbits of their speech?" His brow furrows. "I'd like nothing more than to establish some sort of rapport. We've had minor trade dealings and a few encounters during that last mission, but very little contact, otherwise. I'm not the most social of folk, so perhaps I'm not the best to accomplish that goal. But it would make travel and sharing information across long distances much easier if they were disposed to be friendly and we could communicate more clearly."

Raythan sits back and folds his hands behind his head.
"I have spoken with them, with the help of my magic. As have others, I would imagine. But I haven't heard of anyone here trying to pick up on their language. I think that might be a difficult proposition, since their lexicon appears to be made up of a combination of screeches, clicks, grunts, hand signals, and facial expressions. Im not sure that it is something that we could ever master."
"I agree that it would benefit us greatly to have some form of long distance communications, and from what I have seen, most of the clans are friendly enough to deal with. However, you shouldn't think that they will all respond the same. Have you ever been to any of the bigger cities of Oerth? Because that is what it is like up in the canopy of this jungle. There are literally thousands of phanaton of all kinds living in the trees above our heads."

Darklin
Darklin will rise the next morning and memorize spells and read his spell books. Get dressed in his harness and thigh sheaths and gather the barrels he has fixed and take them to Marge.
Marge, Here are some of the barrels I promised, all but one is fixed. I will have to cast a spell on it so I will keep that one. Here are the other 4. I hope this helps you out with the water gathering. I will be doing some repairs to things around camp so if you need anything else I am around. You once told me about a Mage named Raythan who lives here in the town. Can you tell me how to get to his home. I am thinking he could be an important player in getting a Mage Guild started here so the town will be stronger. And I wish to see if he has any spells he would be willing to share with others.

Marge thanks the elf profusely for fixing her leaking barrels, but seems less enthused about the request.
“Raythan? Oh, you don’t want to go anywhere near that guy. He’s lost his mind, poor fool. Didn’t I tell you that last time?”

No, you didnt say anything about it. What is wrong with him? I was hopeing he could shed some light on a problem i have. Is he coo-coo or just eccentric?
He shakes his head.
Is there anyone left that has been here as long as he has? I am looking for information about some buildings or structures that may be in a circle around this island.

"Well, he's not a bad guy, I suppose. But he has definitely got some issues. I heard he was afraid to come out of his cottage."
"There are a lot of us who have been here longer than him. He came in with a bunch of adventurers, a few months after we started out here."
"I dont know about any circular structures, but I have heard there is an old ruined temple at the end of the loggers trail over there."

"Indeed," Cealwyn replies with a nod. "It does sound complicated. My aspirations aren't quite so lofty yet. Perhaps a first step in a long journey." His brow furrows. "My usefulness lies in being in the wild," he confesses. "I'm no good in the confines of town. It suffocates me. We've only just returned and I'm restless to venture out again." The ranger sighs. "Got to give these wounds time to heal a bit and settle on a course of action." He ponders briefly. "Do you know of anyone else seeking these obelisks or studying their significance?"

"I have not been approached by anyone.....yet. But if I were to guess, once word spreads about them, that will change."
The half-elf hermit thinks for a long while before he continues.
"When I first came here, I witnessed some really terrible things. I thought this island was going to kill us all. I stayed hidden, certain that I had made a mistake by coming to this dangerous place. But once I found the obelisk east of here, it has been literally all that I can think about. The allure of the strange monument never leaves my thoughts now. That drive is what got me out exploring again myself, though I must confess that this place is 100 times more dangerous when you are out there alone."
"There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever, that once a few more people hear about these obelisks, they will be the number one focus on the minds of every adventurer on the island. I will go so far as to say that I envision people fighting one another to discover the next one."

Dexter Broadleaf
Early morning of the 21st,
A bit hung over from a night of rum, dinner, more rum, a long chat with Daisy, a bit more rum, and buying grog for the house once or twice more. (5 more gp? If more let me know.) Dexter still manages to rise early, trained from a youth working at the shipyard. He makes his way down to the fishermen, and looks over where they are they are with the modifications with their boats. If they seem to be on track with his suggestions, he simply throws in and gets to work. "Sorry I missed yesterday, men. I was asked to help with something out in the jungle. This seems to be going well."
If they are doing anything wrong that will set back their work on the water, Dex points it out very politely and with no hint of insult or accusation and starts showing them the correct way and informing them why their way wouldn't have worked.
Dexter will take this entire day, except for a long lunch to deal with some personal business, and work getting the fishermen as ready as they can be for the deeper water. He also makes sure to warn them about the sea monster that attacked them on the beach, describing it, giving them the location and advising them to stay clear of that stretch. "It's a killer, in the water or on the beach, men. Do not get too close to it. We're working on a plan to kill it..... and if you men have any ideas about how to kill it, let me know. New ideas are always a good thing."

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Dexter finds a bit of progress being made on his deeper water improvements to the fishing boats. Though, it doesnt look like the men were keeping themselves too busy with the task yet today. Most of them are sleeping off their gorging from the day before.
"We did a few of the things ye asked, but then Quark showed up with all that fish, so we spent the rest of the day cutting up meat and eating like slobs."
"Ye recon we can make the rest of our improvements before all that fish from yesterday runs out? That was a LOT of fish, I wonder if the townies are getting sick of eating it yet."
5gp is fine. Thanks for keeping track. There are a few things about the improvements that could be adjusted, but these men appear to be good followers of basic instruction.

"I'd bet we're good for one more day," says Dexter."That is a lot of fish. Besides, if we can get these boats finished, we can start bringing in bigger catches ourselves. Maybe not like that beast, but enough to put the town on an eating basis." Looking over the good work they've been doing, Dexter compliments them on it. "This is what I meant, right here. This looks really good. Let's tighten up those fastenings and get them a bit closer. Damn it's nice to work with people who know what they're doing." Dexter gets them moving and working, being the cross between the ambitious co-worker and the friendly foreman.

And because of his past, he is less than welcome in parts of Beachtown. And I prefer the wilds to town life. If you find yourself in need of comrades upon your search for these obelisks, perhaps we might explore together." He gathers his thoughts for a moment. Our interests intersect, and a group of three is marginally safer than one."
"I intend to help supplement the food supply here with hunting expeditions and slay a tentacle beast that blocks our water-bearers from completing their task. But after that..." Cealwyn shrugs. "We're free as birds on the wing."

Max
Max gets his tent interior set up the way he wants it, minus all the other occupants. He opens his chest and looks through his spell books and thinks about who here could maybe help to increase them. He decides to walk down to the beach and see what is going on around the cook fires and see if there are any rumors or information to be had. Upon arrival he approaches one of the cooks.
Hello, Is there any of thing left to eat around here? I am a new arrival and need to get to know the town a little. Mind if I ask you a few questions while you work?
Who do I talk to about setting up a Hospital here? Is there a town counsel or ruling body?
Is there an establish Mage's Guild, where one can find spells to learn?
Were can one find wood planks to build tables and book shelves at?
I know it seems a lot but there is nothing set up here like I though it would be. You don't even have normal everyday food and water set up. Where can one go to find water too. Salt water will make you ill and can't be drunk.
He waits for answers and thinks over more questions in his mind.

He thinks for a while longer, leaving you to endure a fairly long uncomfortable silence.
When Cealwyn gets to the part about the beast on the beach, Raythan sucks in a quick breath of air and looks up horrified.
“WHAT? What did you say about danger on the beach? What are you talking about?”
