"What news, Captain, can you tell us of the Borderlands these days? Can you recommend appropriate accommodations for weary travelers such as myself and companions?" Magar slips Sabin a gold coin.

Sabin waves off the coin.
That's not needed, but thank you for the offer. There is only one Inn, and one Tavern here. So choices are a bit limited. But they are both fine establishments. The Inn is called The Green Man, Im sure they have a few rooms free. The Tavern is called The One-eyed Cat. Its right next to the Inn.

He gives you directions to find the Inn & tavern.

The Borderlands? Plenty of trouble lately. You are lucky to have reached here safely. There is a large group of Bandits robbing travelers on the road. Orcs, Goblins and worse have increased in numbers. But they aren't brave enough to attack the Keep....yet.

To the Tavern!

Fingal, Human Thief

"Inn and tavern; exactly what we need after such foot-weary journey to this keep!"

Fingal stays with the larger body of travelers as they enter the keep, eager to get more details on the events to which the guard has made mention.

Marda, Dwarf 1

Never seen a Dwarf woman before? Huh.

Marda picks up her pack and makes special note of the guard's profile, and gives him a different kind of wink as the party enters the Keep.

Hey, no cover charge or the like. I may like this place yet!

Is it bad form, do you think, to just go goblin-hunting? I got no plans for tomorrow yet, but I could do with some sport like that.

Foracor the Fleet / Elf

Foracor enjoys the caravan ride, talking to fellow adventurers and travelers about the area, its dangers, and the Keep. Upon arrival he proceeds to the gate, careful to wrap his cloak closely about as new lands and towns attract thieves. Foracor overhears the mage Magar's conversation with the guard.

Ah, a fellow spell slinger and a human one at that, thinks Foracor.Perhaps he would make an interesting travel companion in this new land.

Foracor walks through the gate and hails the mage Magar.

Greetings fellow magic user! I am Foracor of the Fellreev Forests, recently arrived on the caravan. I heard you at the gate speak of magic. It seems we share similar goals of adventure and coin here in this Keep on the Borderlands. Perhaps we could break bread and ale at the tavern with your comrades to discuss?

Marda, Dwarf 1

Marda follows Bayard's lead and gets a room for a few nights, then wanders about town to see what there is to see. She'll settle in at the pub around lunch time and keep a mug of the local brew company for the afternoon, swapping stories of battle scars with whom she can and keeping an ear out for current events. She's not above getting into a drinking contest or two...

If she sees any of her fellows from the trip to the Keep, she'll hail them and pull them up a seat.

Gunther the master of the merchant caravan waits inside the Keep for those who travelled with him.
Ah, good trip my friends. Here is a little something for you, for helping us.
He hands you a small pouch. You open it to find 30 silver pieces.

(This is only for those who stated they travelled with the caravan. If you arrived on your own, you do not get this of course.)

Those of you who travel to the Inn of the Green Man, find a large two story building with a sign of a tree-like man above the door.
A thin , tired man greets you.
Good day. Needing a room? You can share a private room for a gold a night. You can a have a private room for 2 gold. If you want the common room, its a silver coin.

You see a sign with prices on the wall.
Common room 1 silver
Shared room 1 gold
Private room 2 gold
It seems you can also get 3 small meals with your stay for an extra gold per night.
(nothing fancy, gruel, bread, soup, stew, and the like)

------------------

You can get a room for a few nights, and move on to the tavern or elsewhere if you like. Then make your plans to explore outside the next day(s).)

Brother Bayard, Human Cleric

Turning to the innkeeper, Bayard says, "The common room for me, good sir. If you don't mind my saying, you look weary. If you would allow, I will beseech Trithereon to restore some vigor."

If the innkeeper allows, Bayard will cast cure light wounds on him.

Abin, Cleric of Jascar

Abin receives the small pouch from Gunther with thanks and enters the keep. Finding himself in step with Marda and Brother Bayard, and hearing of their plans, he suggests they all make the circuit of Inn, Chapel, and Tavern together:

"Come, Marda! If Brother Bayard doesn't mind the company, a visit to the shrine of St. Cuthbert will do us nothing but good! Then, off to the tavern for sport and sustenance!"

"A private room, if you please." The burly spellslinger will sit in the dining room and attempt to listen for rumors.

Foracor the Fleet / Elf

Foracor accepts Gunther's silver with thanks, reserves a private room in the Green Man inn, and joins caravan comrades Marda and the two clerics in a tour of the town, chapel and inn. He will keep an ear open for rumors of treasure to be had in the borderlands.

Marda, Dwarf 1

Aye, Marda says to Abin, Just let me settle up for me... Common space...

Marda takes space in the common room (bloomin' rip-off, a room for two gold), then sets out to see the town with the clerics, keeping an eye out for other Dwarves.

A bit queer, innit? Havin' just the one tavern and one chapel like. You humies keep family shrines then, do ya?

Fingal, Human Thief

Fingal hands over the coin for the common room and three meals. He then goes to the tavern to make sure the local fare is suitable for consumption, and to keep an ear open for goings on.

Day 1 , 12 noon

The tavern. The One-eyed Cat.

A sign with a cat wearing an eyepatch is above the door. There are several people in the tavern, as it is now starting to serve a mid day meal. Several rough wood tables and benches are scattered about and a long bar is at one end of the room. The smeel of smoke food and strong ale assault your senses as serving wenches weave in and out with trays of food & drink.

A board on the wall has prices and fare available.

ale 1 silver
small beer 1 silver
wine 5 silver
honey mead 5 silver
bark tea 1 silver

loaf of bread 1 silver
pudding 1 silver
soup 1 silver
stew 3 silver
roast pheasant 1 gold
roast joint 1 gold
hot meat pie 3 silver
cheese 1 silver
fruit 1 silver

Prices are a little more than you are used to...but you are on the Borderlands.

Day 1 12 noon

The Chapel of St. Cuthbert of the Cudgel

This large stone building is simple & unadorned on the outside, you hardly believe it is a church. The double doors open into a large worshipping area with many pews. At one end is a large statue of the saint himself, and altar & a poor box.

Three robed & hooded men move about cleaning & polishing.
