Lucus

He stops and retrieves his sword and returns it to his sheath. Looking to the 2 Held thugs

So what are we going to do with these two?

Alvar shrugs "Well we could take them to a local constable, or tie them up take their things and leave them bound and in their skivvies here at this wagon." the fighter/mage replies nonchalantly as he starts searching the defeated brigands. "That or we could free them and they'd likely keep doing this to other innocent folk. Or we could dispatch them here. Basically those are the 4 options I can see before us."

Sasha:

Puts the rats to work forming a defensive perimeter for the moment.

Agree'd, they will probably enact more thievery left to their own.... let's have the rats chase them all the way to town.... nude.

Berek

Berek ponders the words of his friends.

Horus does not forgive brigandry, and should these scofflaws be brought back to town, they would be put to death by law. But I would not be their executioner. Still, should they survive this generous ordeal, they will surely engage their depredations on others. The wages of setting upon travelers is death.

We cannot let them go unaware upon others. They must be marked for the future. It is traditional for thieves to lose the thumb and index finger so that all will see them for what they are.

OOC: Trying to balance the good and the Horus/Vengeance (more LN); if this is something against his code, please let me know.

Alvar suggests "I've heard of thieves having their hands cut off. But never heard that bit about just a finger or thumb. I have also heard about some places branding them with a mark using a heated brand like some farmers do with cattle, or merely cutting a T on their forehead. But I am no lawman by any means. Personally I'm in favor of the leaving them naked and tied up or tied up naked being chased by the rats."

Alvar "I don't think the tied up left in their undergarments is torture. But sure I can see how being chased by rats might."

Berek

Berek gives a quizzical look at Pieni.

No one should condone torture, and the lawful exaction upon brigands would not be that. Horus does not seek either information from them, nor a confession as to what we witnessed. I am .... unused to the principle of a lesser punishment being disfavored, but perhaps I misjudged the quality of mercy; it was never an attribute I cultivated.

He gives a slight shrug.

Whether they are put to the sword here or in town is of no difference to me, but Horus will not countenance the grave crime of setting upon unwitting travelers. They have already been judged; it is only a question of when the judgment arrives.

Sasha:

Their attempt to steal Berek's life from the start is indicative of their spirit, their intention was not to take captive or hostage.
With a shrug. They should be put down or we might meet them again on our way back... in an injured state.

Alvar tired of the discussion walks to the two held men and takes out his dagger rather than slit their throats he stabs them both in the brain through the temple. "There it is decided I certainly did not want to do that, but it appeared the discussion was going that route anyway. I do hope none of you look down upon me for doing simply what was needed to be done."

Alvar cleans his dagger blade and lays the bodies gently on the ground and closes their eyes. "I'm sorry I tried to be as humane and merciful as possible." he says with the sound mercy in his tone.

Berek lowers his head.

May Horus's virtuous judgment free them to an afterlife where this sin will not follow.

He looks up at Alvar.

There is no shame in carrying out the law. The mercy that the law showed to them here was far greater than that which they have showed to others. Should we see what is in the wagon?

The wagon contains 2 barrels of ale, several weeks bread, oats, and dried meat for at least 10 people.
