Re: OOC
FYI - Here's what I saw in my version of DCC, not sure which version it is offhand though:
Subdual damage: You can use the flat of your sword to
subdue an opponent you wish to capture alive. If a character
is proficient in one of the following weapons, he can
inflict subdual damage with it: swords, axes, clubs, spears,
and staves. There is no attack penalty, but subdual damage
is one die lower than normal for the weapon, according to
the dice chain. An opponent brought to 0 hit points via subdual
damage collapses unconscious.
Unarmed combat: Unarmed characters inflict subdual
damage of 1d3 + Strength modifier.

There's only one version, thanks for posting that. Okay so Subdual is very doable just with a lower dice chain attack i.e. d16 instead of d20 in this scenario. In this case I won't allow it but good to know for future encounters.

Add a new rule to the basic rules thread just in case you guys weren't aware:
16.) If a PC dies loot is open to be picked up just as it would be realistically. Gone are the days where a companion dies and their magical equipment disappears to the mists.

I also want to give a friendly reminder to everyone since i'm feeling kind today that for this week and this week only if you guys want to actually claim some of the loot on the treasure thread that doesn't have a name by it do it now. Anything by the end of next Friday that doesn't have a name by it and hasn't been posted on a character sheet will be left where it was found. This includes gold, i'd like to keep loot accurate and realistic as you can only hold so much and there isn't a magic pool to hold it all until you return to town.

Kunno put in a bid for one of the silver rings in the thread. Also, wasn't the party coinage being pooled?AQuebman wrote:I also want to give a friendly reminder to everyone since i'm feeling kind today that for this week and this week only if you guys want to actually claim some of the loot on the treasure thread that doesn't have a name by it do it now. Re: OOC
I wasn't very firm in my response hoping you guys came up with your own system. I would prefer you split it or keep it as you go. So situations like a character being eaten actually has consequences because "hey Kunno has all our gold" is a possibility.Stouthart wrote:Kunno put in a bid for one of the silver rings in the thread. Re: OOC
I'm playing Kunno like he doesn't know anything that has happened in the cavern up to the point where he showed up on the beach. That is why he is heading towards the menhir even though it appears others have interacted with it. He's the typical over-eager kid that wants to save the day.
Re: OOC
Since Aengus was next to Heltel at the beginning of round 1, does Aengus have a move action remaining in round 1 after he makes the will save?
If he does, and if he can disengage without drawing an additional attack, he will make a rearward advance from Heltel as far as possible.

Re: OOC
Prolly should have adjudicated this better. Your initial failed save was your round one save. Your second roll was for round 2 so technically Heltel will act under the compulsion because he failed before Aengus because hes earlier in the initiative.NJWilliam wrote:Since Aengus was next to Heltel at the beginning of round 1, does Aengus have a move action remaining in round 1 after he makes the will save?

The thread update list is going wonky on me. I hadn't even realized Kunno had replied to Goratrix.AQuebman wrote:Goratrix stand and watches the in-fighting in horror

You guys don't have to but I highly encourage you to please post on the newly created "Character Images & Profiles" thread I created. I thought it would be fun and maybe a bit more interesting if you guys all had a space to post how you imagine your characters and maybe some backstory or whatever you would like.
I realize this is a little harder to do in the funnel but I thought i'd provide it anyways. Hell feel free to include a beloved dead character too it's totally up to you guys.

Re: OOC
So nothing is final but I am seriously considering opening a second DCC campaign group within the same world as you all but separate at least to start. I wanted to first see if any of you would be interested in joining if I did such a thing and if there were any opinions or objections to my possibly doing that. I would run it exactly as I do this one and it would start at 1st level. Again it would be module based as this one has been with my own twists as I see fit.
I really value my players and their opinions to please lay it all out there I love to hear from you guys and i've been having such a good time running this one it's made me want to expand my DM'ing opportunities. This group would likely start with 4-5 characters as 1st level's are a little heartier and to keep it from being as jumbled a mess as the funnel is in a PbP environment.

Re: OOC
I would advise against it for both practical and selfish reasons:
- A new DCC game means you will have less time/resources/effort to devote to ours
- New players starting characters at 1st level with all the wonkiness of DCC rules might cause problems
- Running a 1st-level DCC module simultaneously set on the same setting of the 0th level one denies the 0th level players the chance to play it when they level up
- Being a player on both a 1st and 0th level DCC module simultaneously set on the same setting just seems...kind of lame
- New players starting characters at 1st level right off the bat is injurious and insulting to us slobs who are funneling 0th level PCs as its supposed to be done

Well to coincide with this I have been heavily considering leaving some very slow dead weight games i'm in currently to focus more on DM'ing which I find to be more rewarding so my time wouldn't be overly strained but I agree as a player that could and should be a concern.
- New players starting characters at 1st level with all the wonkiness of DCC rules might cause problems
I think this again just falls on explaining some rules which for the most part are pretty straightforward or written blatantly in the book. The luck mechanic is probably the hardest thing to explain but once players realize they can burn luck to aid rolls etc it's pretty well understood.
- Running a 1st-level DCC module simultaneously set on the same setting of the 0th level one denies the 0th level players the chance to play it when they level up
IF I do this it will not be until you all are already 1st level and since I can very easily and openly use DCC and 3rd edition modules I plan on being really wide open with what I let you guys run. If any of you ever played in a campaign by Jamabarn over on dragonsfoot this is his method where he takes a vote for the next venture based on clues the party has heard about etc... I like this because it leaves it in character and out of my hands to decide what were running. Also whose to say I wouldn't give you both a chance at the same place, again your two separate parties in the same world I can't stop if you both intermingle at some point.
- Being a player on both a 1st and 0th level DCC module simultaneously set on the same setting just seems...kind of lame
You wouldn't have to join the second group I just like the idea of using the same world and making it feel alive and to allow myself to expand my creative DM juices beyond one campaign. I would likely set it up similarly to how the ToH game is being run where it's two parties with threads that are connected. The difference is mine would be in the same world other than that it's essentially two totally separate games.
- New players starting characters at 1st level right off the bat is injurious and insulting to us slobs who are funneling 0th level PCs as its supposed to be done
Again refer to my note above, you fellas who scraped and crawled your way from the clutches of death will most certainly be 1st level before this ever came to pass. I am merely planning and thinking that is all at this point.

Re: OOC
Posted my characters on the background thread. Thanks for the prompting on that, Aquebman, had fun doing it!
On the idea of a second group playing in the same campaign world, I'm fine with that as long as, like Vargr said, you make sure you have time to keep our game going at least at the same pace it is now. As far as the second group having the advantage of starting out at 1st level, it kinda sucks but I can see why you'd do it that way on pbp. As long as we're already at 1st, I'm cool with it. I'm a pragmatist most of the time, when I'm not being an idealist...
Besides, if they run across us, we'll kick their a$$e$...
Just ordered a physical copy of DCC, as I only had a pdf before. I've found it too difficult to run a ftf game off a pdf, and going to convert a campaign with my kids that started out 4e (that was a mistake, let me tell you) and that's been using DnD Next (hard to run a campaign with a truly wonky ruleset that keeps changing) to DCC. DCC is a beautiful book and a very fun ruleset once you get used to it!
EDIT:
BTW, thought I'd add that I really don't want Heltel to kill Aengus but I'm going to play it like he's truly lost it. I'm fine with you all doing whatever has to be done. It's DCC! Pull no punches!
