After breakfast Newton will contact Madame Fleur, to catch up on the situation in Junction.
Madame Fleur

"I'm glad you are getting in touch," Fleur says, "and it is good to hear that you are well, and alive still. Let's see, what has happened . . . the other band of adventurers -- I believe you met one or two of their number -- have claimed an abandoned keep to the south, near the mouth of the Sarn, and have repaired some river boats to start making supply runs with workers and materials to repair it. A meteor shower lit up the skies over Junction at roughly the same time as their return, and I believe they set out to recover some of the starmetal. The road to Rocky Peak is still closed, although the Baron's men have started to patrol the land you cleared on the opposite bank of the Sarn, and some brave souls have already moved across and are beginning to build homesteads. There's also a small consortium of merchants that are commissioning some more river craft be built, probably to take advantage of the clearing of the river passage south. It will be a month or more, at least, before the new craft are ready."

Newton

"I am glad to find you well, madam Fleur"

Newton goes on to outline their adventures and their plans for the near future "...so as you see it seems that we will be staying the north for a while longer. It sounds like things are moving along quite quickly in Junction without us. With our current plans I would be interested in your on thoughts on whether your skills are best used with you remaining in junction or coming to Rhea's Ford, or even further north"

The adventurers return to see Helmmarma. "Aha!" she exclaims, "good to see you again. I did some checking last night, and I think I can say with some certainty that Maknor lies here!" She refers to the map the adventurers have, pointing to the hex labelled 219.120. It looks to be almost directly north of Junction and west of Draea or Kimrid.

Reker Nus

Upon returning to see Nus the sage greets them somewhat more coolly than last time. "You have returned," he says, "have you reached a decision with the mask?"
"Thank you, Helmmarma. You are most gracious and wise! This information will serve us well."
Is there a map that depicts the location of Draea with respect to Kimrid or Alice? I was looking earlier and couldn't find one. I know that we travelled from Draea through Alice to Rhea's Ford, but I'm not sure if we were actually on the same road that would lead us on to Kimrid. If we travel from the Ford to Kimrid, do we pass through Alice and Draea necessarily? I seem to recall Draea is "off to the side."

Zellar

Zellar, Sigmari and Alwen visit the market and acquire horses, harness, provisions and a few adventuring supplies. They report back to the main group that they are ready to depart for Draea.

Alwen Nar

"Aye, it's been some time since I've tested the edge of my blade against orcflesh. I'm eager to see if they still bleed red."

Sigmari An

Draea is in hex 236.124, so it's in a straight line between Alice and Kimrid. I haven't updated the 6-mile overview hex map to show the roads . . . actually, here's a snapshot showing the map.

Gardo

"Good sir! Greetings this day, Master Nus! Good to see you well. I first want to say that I thank you for identifying this glamourbox here." Gardo hold up the Isenden relic. "Perhaps I will find that item that powers it and demonstrate it for you sometime in the future. You are deserving of that."

Gardo pauses and clears his throat a bit. "Now, about the mask and this misunderstanding that seems to have occurred with my comrade Newton. We do wish to sell it to you for your services, we would be foolish to try and get any other offers for it. I understand that you were rather put out by his counteroffer. It is understandable and I ask that you forgive our total dumbness. We are adventurers, braving some of the deadliest things that men can face and we are used to common men who are willing to haggle over prices. I guess that is our fault for thinking you are just a common man. Anyone who could figure out this lantern thing was a glamourbox is not common, now are you?"

"Now, I was talking to my man, Mariusz, about this last night and he had an interesting thought. You see, the more you research things for us, the more successful we actually could become. What does that do for your reputation? If people hear of our awesome travels and deeds and learn that Master Reker Nus is the one who supplies us with quality knowledge, how much more does your reputation grow?"

"After he said that it reminded me of this guy I used to work with, Alger Split-eye. He was another one of my former boss's.... problem solvers is what he like to call us. Anyway, Alger was sent to collect a debt from this one guy who was not paying. I went with him to help find the guy and we tracked him to a bar a rival of my boss had and was about to pay him some money. We quickly grabbed the money and the guy and took him back to his house. There, Alger reminded the man who really should have been paid first by knocking the guy out with one punch then, taking this weird hand axe that he always carried, chopping the guy's left hand clean off. The guy woke right up when that happened too. It was one of the cleanest cuts I ever saw."

"We torched the stump to stop the bleeding and went on our way. Alger got a reputation from then on of being merciless, even though he really wasn't a violent or mean guy. He was just good with that axe. When people saw him, they knew our boss was real serious and they paid real quick. I mean, he didn't want to end up like the previous guy, Vernen, who went out once to collect some money and remind a guy who should get paid first. Only Vernen wasn't really good with any weapons. He could barely use a fork without stabbing himself in the face or hand. Vernen went to chop off this one guy's hand and he didn't do it right the first time, so he kept trying. I heard it took him fourteen times to finally get the hand and the guy's arm was so badly mangled that he bled out by the time the last chop occurred. I'm just glad I wasn't with him. His reputation really wasn't something the boss wanted around. The boss always said that dead people can't pay you money, you can just sell them for parts."

"So.... what was I saying... Right! Reputation! Think about this. Our little group has reopened the road to Kimrid. We have found a group of people called siderenos, the Iron Skinned people, who we just introduced the daughter of the Baron of these people as a diplomat to the Scarlet Prince. And the Baron has some interesting books in his small library that would be very interesting to a man such as yourself. We are heading back north as it is and look to be facing a dragon sometime in the future. When we defeat it, wouldn't the reputation of Reker Nus grow if he was the one to supply us with knowledge to defeat the beast? I say to you, isn't our success that in turn grows your reputation worth something?"

"So, would you do twelve months or meet us somewhere in the middle? Can a deal be reached?" Gardo puts on one of his best smiles as he finishes.

The sage winces a bit at Gardo's description of Alger Split-eye, but soon shrugs it off. "I can do 9 months trade," he says, "but that is all."

I think it was green dragons in general and this one dragon in particular.

This was character mode. He wasn't paying attention. He just wants someone to point him in the direction he should go.

"I will discuss this with the others, and if we want to rearrange things we'll have a message dispatched to you before we leave Rhea's Ford, which is very likely to be today, or tomorrow at the latest...one last thing, I believe my Drakeskin armour is due to be completed within the month, could you have it dispatched to Rhea's Ford, or Alice if we end up with a presence there."

If there is nothing else that Madame Fleur needs to discuss then Newton will break the connection and take his new wards shopping. If Toma wants to keep his inherited chain armour and sword then Newton will see if they can find somebody to restore the items to better condition, although Newton will suggest to Toma he might want a bigger sword.

When they return to the Inn he will give them some brief instruction on maintaining there kit "Equipment in poor condition can cost you your life. You need to pay attention to what I tell you as we travel, and do as you are told. Just because you have weapons and armour now it doesn't mean you can rush into battle, you'll get yourself killed."
I've updated the equipment for Wilter and Toma. Toma was described as having a short blade so I've taken that as a short sword. I've given both a short bow, but I'm wondering if Wilter might want a light crossbow. I also think that it would be good if Toma use his family armour and weapons, as it'll be good characterisation, but I'll take your direction on this TK

I'm fine with you fitting out your hirelings as you see fit, and playing their reactions.
Fifthmonth, Sixteenthday

The rest of the Sixteenthday is spent equipping the newly hired adventurers, replacing those mercenaries that have fallen in battle -- a relatively easy task in such a large city, although if they sought to hire more it might take some time -- and otherwise preparing to head back north.

The adventurers rise in the morning and begin to plot their next course of action.

Newton

On the evening of sixteenthday, at dinner, Newton brings up a question

"I spoke to madame Fleur today", he then brings everyone up to speed with what she told him "...so do we want Madame Fleur to remain in Junction? As we will be remaining north for a while it would make sense to have Tolnier relocate to Alice and have madame Fleur in Rhea's Ford where we can use the mirror to direct the sages"

Feargus
"Agreed. Having a connection to the sages and to the Prince could be useful. Likewise having Tolniel up north makes sense as long as he's willing. And if not, we can find somebody else up there who can take that responsibility...Besides that, my crew stands ready."

Fifthmonth, Sixteenthday
Rhea's Ford
The offices of Tolniel Fer
9:00 am

When the subject is broached the factor frowns, briefly, but then brightens. "Of course," he says, "What you say makes sense, although I will certainly miss the culture and refinement of this city, perhaps traveling northward would prove an interesting experiment. Things have gotten somewhat boring around here, I must admit. Give me a week to pack and ready my things, and I will head north, following behind you. I should have an office established by time you return south. I will also send a messenger to Fleur, letting her know to come east."

And, with that business out of the way, the adventurers are ready to move north once more, unless anything else catches their fancy.

Fifthmonth, Sixteenthday
Rhea's Ford

The adventurers leave after arranging this with Tolniel Fer. Xandar, their new recruit, is nowhere to be seen, but he has left his treasure map behind, along with a note that reads: "Take this. It will serve you better than me."

The adventurers travel north along the road under a clear sky. They reach Bastion in the later afternoon and rest there for the night.

Fifthmonth, Seventeenthday
Bastion

The adventures rise in the morning. The day looks to be overcast, but without the scent of rain. They follow the road, winding its way down out of the Ironshard mountains, to the wooded plains beyond, and stay for the night in Shard's Keep, the fortified inn where the adventurers met Mardan Cy.

Fifthmonth, Eighteenthday
Alice

The adventurers rise early and leave. The day is still overcast, the clouds pregnant with rain, but nothing falls. It is almost unpleasantly humid. The companions arrive in Alice around midday, and find the roads to be abuzz with activity. A dozen wagons line the main thoroughfare, in the process of being serviced; men and women lead oxen, and it seems like every porch and streetcorner contains two or more lounging mercenaries, crossbows slung over their shoulders. Mixed in with the crowd are soldiers in the red surcoats of the Scarlet Prince.
