Alright, I think I'm rockin' a Half-Elf Thief/MU. I'll be a walking Swiss army knife!
Actually, the OSRIC RaW don't allow Half-Elf Thief/Illusionists, but the subtler magics would be handy. Would that be an acceptable substitute?

Re: Character Sheets
It was to my understanding that Half-Elves in all versions of DnD were restricted in using the Illusionist class, as well as Elves, at least in ones that I am familiar with. That being said, your Half-Elf may certainly fit in a magic user build for your multi-class character, it just cannot be Illusionist, same goes for Elves.Badger1stClass wrote:Alright, I think I'm rockin' a Half-Elf Thief/MU. Re: Character Sheets
Groovy! Looking at the RaW again, it looks like all mages start with 4 spells: "Read Magic," player's choice, and two random. Considering the restricted nature of magic in your setting, do you want input about what the chosen/random spells are?Rukellian wrote:It was to my understanding that Half-Elves in all versions of DnD were restricted in using the Illusionist class...
When I hear about the spells, I'll put a few finishing touches on and have a sheet up this evening.

Re: Character Sheets
Every Magic User starts off automatically with Read Magic as one of their 4 beginning spells. The player indeed may choose one from the 1st level spell list. The last two can also be chosen as a sort of spell wishlist by the player. If I approve of those last two random ones, consider it randomized
BUT, if I think that the spell(s) would not work well in terms of its limits in this world, I will replace it with one or two of my choosing. So choose your spells smartly! As a level one MU, a player can only memorize one spell at a time. You may switch between your other spells during times of rest, but as it stands, if you picked sleep for memorization, that is the only spell you would be able to cast in battle.

height: [1d4] = 4
weight: [1d20] = 4
age: 130 + [5d6] = 24
Starting coin: [3d6+2] = 5+2 = 7
half-elf age: 22+[3d8] = 11

Well done! I do love myself a well written character background. I really get the feeling that Gwinn will be fun addition to the groupBadger1stClass wrote:I bring you Gwinn!

The only thing I would like to clarify is the amount of starting languages you have compared to the number you can possibly learn.
You have a quite a few down right off the bat. Common is given, and I think I will let Thieves' Cant slide, but the others will need to be learned later on I think. Elven.... well considering your childhood, you did not have as much exposure to the elven language, so that too will need to be learned, maybe more quickly than others, but still. I have to be fair and technical with some of this stuff.
Oh, and the spells look good too, no complaints on my end.

Re: Character Sheets
Ok, cool. I couldn't find a satisfactory explanation of how starting languages work and whatever jumping around the .pdf, so I just loaded her up.Rukellian wrote:The only thing I would like to clarify is the amount of starting languages you have compared to the number you can possibly learn. So she'll start with Common and 'Cant, and everything else is just a wish-list. Is there a "language of magic"? That's the only other thing that I think she might know, or end up learning.
The only other thing I was wondering about and just "made work" to just get the sheet up is starting equipment. I didn't pay for the traveling clothes or spellbook, and I figure she's got a small purse and belt pouch. I don't remember seeing a rule about whether or not wizards just start with a spellbook, but I feel like they usually get the first one free. I also didn't find a listing for ink, but it's usually not cheap, so I paid 10gp for the quill and ink. Sound good?

Re: Character Sheets
I don't think there is a "language of magic". Where did you get that from?
The first spellbook is usually free, its handed down from mentor to student traditionally. The traveling clothes is given, but you will need to buy the small purse and belt pouch. The writing ink is pretty expensive, so yeah 10 gp will do. For items that I cannot find on OSRIC tables, I just refer to purpleworm.org/rules for the missing info.

Re: Character Sheets
Well, like Latin was the "language of scholars," and certainly the "language of the Church," for a long time, some fantasy worlds have a "language of magic." Sometimes it's its own thing, but sometimes it's Elven or Draconic or something, so I just thought I'd ask.

Re: Character Sheets
Well, Elven will be its own language, and if there was a such a 'language of magic' in this realm, it would be a nickname of something else. But yeah, let's not confuse anyone else with it; if it's not in OSRIC then don't worry about it.

Nice pic tooleychris... are you reading my mind or something
(hints at second module after this one)
Anyways, as some of you may or may not know, the Unseen Servant Roller has been acting up with its character sheets. Some people have already lost all of their info and had to get an admin to fix it. The roller in general can be buggy, so I would like to ask for those who have not done so already to post your character sheets on this thread, text-based. Something along the lines of tooleychris' or onlyme's. If you would like to do what Badger1stClass did and send me your character sheet via attachment, that is also perfectly acceptable.
Thank you in advance!
