Saracen jumps as the dog barks and lifts his mirror to look at what Cu is barking at, sword raised in preparation.

Ware comrades, I fear he comes!

If he sees the creature materialise near the paladin Saracen will use his mirror to run backwards towards Brutus, and pass him heading towards an area where everyone else is behind the creature if he turns and attacks the holy champion. On his way passed he will lash out with his enchanted sword, keeping his eyes in the mirror (so what.. -4 to hit or something?)

Andronichishche patiently listens to Mina's account while examining the apparent wellspring in the floor. His knowledge of geology is superficial, but he does find it strange that this complex of tunnels and caves is situated above a source of underground water on such a small island. One large enough to span the distance necessary to supply natural pools of water in both the large cavern and Cora's living chamber.

When Mina mentioned that Brutus referred to Sister Theresa by a strange name, he immediately thought of the one inscribed on the small box they found ... Marquees. He suspected this is the name of the medusa Brutus was ... is still ... in love with, driven insane after the wizard apparently imprisoned it ... in soul, at least ... into the amulet. The revelation that Brutus attempted to mate with Sister Theresa concerned him greatly, and provided a new clue as to this creature's ultimate intentions. He decided to refrain from sharing his thoughts openly now, though. Andron had learned that his stream of conscious style of thought can be difficult to follow; confusing and disconcerting. Given Mina's emotional distress, his theory would also only help to exacerbate her condition.

Her exclamation of surprise at the current date though, causes him to turn about and regard her with an arched eyebrow. Andron awkwardly reaches back to hastily retrieve a journal from his backpack. His memory skills, both long term and short, were well honed from years of study. Rarely did he bother to record notes, but her response found him instinctively needing to do so. Cu's sudden and wild barking, however, causes him to immediately change plans and he reaches for Nallissa's mirror instead.

He quickly notices the dog's attention is behind him toward the center of the room where Sir Crestbrook is standing alone, on guard. Recalling Brutus's previous attack, he angles the mirror so that he can view the floor around the paladin, looking for any signs of disturbance.

Gruesome Revelations
Freeday, 19th of Goodmonth
Morning, Partly Cloudy, Warm, Humid

Andronichishche looks at the well a little closer, finding the walls of the shaft to be as smooth as some of the tunnels he found earlier, when Cu starts barking in the direction of Cresty. Maag and Carucenus get the now unchained Mina to her feet. The frazzled woman starts to scream when she sees something dropping from the ceiling over the head of the lone paladin.

With their mirrors in hand, most of the group tries to locate the floor around him, or his legs, not wishing to view Cresty's attacker directly. Saracen starts moving in his direction, attempting to get beyond his position to isolate the beasts attacks away from the others.

Cresty doesn't see the monster until the last second, dropping directly out of the rock above his head. The paladin is surprised by this unusual attack, even though he was wary of the walls and tunnels around him. His reaction is a bit too slow for him to move out from under the falling creature, when the immense weight of the large stony beast knocks the holy warrior straight to the floor. Grabbing the humans head in his strong hands, it slowly opens its eyes, looking directly at the fallen paladin for the second time. On this instance however, the results are not so good.

Cresty is instantly wracked with pain as his bones, skin, and blood all begin to harden. In only a matter of a few seconds time, the once living, breathing soul becomes nothing more than a stationary stone statue destined to decorate these tunnels for eternity, just like the many minotaurs who guard these halls. Ignoring the actions of Saracen completely, the half-orc is able to use his mirror to skirt the danger and get past the horrid scene.

The large humanoid figure slowly stands again to its full height of nearly 8 feet tall. Completely hairless and covered in strange darker markings that cover its hard, stony textured skin, the expression on its face is one of pained anguish. Seeing its prize prisoner now released, the thing begins to cackle and scream loudly like a mad man as it beats its hard chest, seeking out its next victim.
The one you're up against looks completely crazed, and far less friendly, but you should get the idea here.

Since Saracen moved less than half his movement last round, I will allow him an extra attack this round, if he so chooses.

Anyone trying to fight while looking through a mirror to avoid eye contact will do so at a -3 penalty.

DIE YOU BASTARD SON OF A SNAKE SKIN WHORE

[1d20] = 14 (the -3 cancels my normal +3 to hit so I just rolled straight d20)

damage

Large or small?
large [3d4+4] = 11+4 = 15

Andronichishche is startled by Mina's scream, his mirror directed as it was towards the floor he couldn't see Brutus phasing through the ceiling. When the lithic monstrosity falls upon Sir Crestbrook, however, it becomes immediately clear what happened. He was powerless to stop the subsequent events and could only watch in horror as the creature forced the young paladin to meet its gaze and transform him into a similar fate as Talkhor. With only one spell left he could do little to harm the towering monster ... except, he did notice the anguish in its face ... perhaps he could distract it, at least briefly. Quickly reaching for the shirt pocket containing the tiny box, he snatches it with his right hand, and still viewing Brutus via the mirror raises the box as if to smash it against the floor and cries out ... "Marquees!!!"

Tlachtga

Looking at the creatures legs Tlachtga casts Faerie Fire on it. She holds Cu back for now, expecting the melee to turn into chaos with everyone trying to to look at the creatures eyes.

OM will have to rule if Faerie Fires +2 to hit bonus applies here.

Carucenus starts approaching the creature, also looking at its feet.
Since I don't know if he'll be able to attack, I'll roll here in the shadow

Cresty

The paladin collapses to the floor under the immense weight of Brutus. The pain is too much. He roars in agony By the brotherhood of the... the gaze of the beast meet his own eyes. In an instant he is turned to stone, lying on the floor with his right hand still clutching his sword.

The hand still clutches the sword everyone. Way to go Sir Crestbrook the Mighty

Lerrick

The cleric watches in horror the event take place culminating in the paladin turn to stone. Seeing the fighters charge the foe she immediately moves to the freed captive and quickly moves her behind the rest of the party. Stay with me. Keep your gaze down towards the floor. I will protect you the best I can. She grips her mace tightly and keeps her eyes trained to the floor.

Saracen calls out to the creature in common and then orcish. Oi, you miserable pigdog bitchtroll from hell! he lifts the mirror to face away from him and towards the creature, so that if it looks in his direction it will definitely catch its own reflection!

In his other hand he still holds his sword ready. As soon as he sees the creature begin to turn towards him, Saracen will clamp his eyes shut to avoid the beast’s gaze.

Alordan watches another comrade succumb to a sickening fate. "Cresty!" He races forward without thinking of any mirror - which he isn't holding - or any effects from the stone creature - which he doesn't think to avoid looking at - and swings his longsword in attempt to kill the bastard.

Long Sword Attack [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11 (THACO=18)
Long Sword Damage(+1 str/+1 weapon) = S/M: [1d8+2] = 2+2 = 4 / L: [1d12+2] = 12+2 = 14

OOC: would be great if that +2 farie fire would kick in here and give us a chance! :)

Maag

Maag uses his mirror to try and get close enough to take a swing. Unfortunately he can't watch the mirror and the floor at the same time and trips at the crucial moment.

'arry the Bastard Sword (THACO 18) [1d20] = 1 Dmg S/M [2d4+5] = 4+5 = 9 Dmg L [2d8+5] = 8+5 = 13

I tried to work out his STR bonus, the penalty, the Faerie Fire. Then rolled that
Chance of being Suprised: 33%

Gruesome Revelations
Freeday, 19th of Goodmonth
Morning, Partly Cloudy, Warm, Humid

Saracen shouts at the monster while holding his mirror out towards it, hoping to turn the things powerful gaze back upon itself. When it starts to turn towards the half-orc, he scrunches his eyes closed tightly to avoid the same fate that poor Cresty just suffered. The beast swats away the mirror hand with one muscular arm while pounding his other fist into the side of Saracens unwary head. 7 dam When the monster then physically tries to open the half-orcs eyes with his stony hand, the rest of the group springs in to attack.

A shout from the distant Andronichishche clearly catches the attention of the beast, who stops pulling at Saracens face long enough to turn towards the person shouting this obviously recognized name. For a split second, the priest of Rao sees a definitive change in the expression of the monster, but his actions dont seem to bother the crazed beast much at all. Once the others jump in to attack, the crazed monster snaps out of it and begins flailing around again. Lerrick stays alert, moving over to Mina to keep her calm and protected in her vulnerable state. Tlachtga keeps the barking Cu at her side and begins chanting.

Finding fighting fairly difficult while looking through a tiny pane of reflective glass, Alordan, Gramble, Carucenus, and Maag all charge in to attack the thing while Andron has it distracted, but only Gramble's blow causes damage to the large sized creature. A lot of bloody damage. Yet, the crazed monster continues to screech and cackle, almost as if it enjoyed the pain from the blow, still looking for its next victim to eliminate. When it sees that Alordan is the only one brave enough to fight it face to face, he turns in his direction next.

The creature suddenly starts to glow a distinct violet color that covers most of its body, making it a little easier to target now. Andron, though perplexed that his charade didn't work, can take solace in the fact that his distraction likely prevented the thing from turning its gaze to Alordan sooner. (Can I get a Save vs. Pet. from Alordan with this next round of action please, in case it is needed?)

Saracen Steps away whilst Gramble pushes his attack, moving around to the creatures side and some steps back, before he begins to incant a spell, hoping to use the Blinding Light of Pholtus to blind the creature and hopefully prevent it being able to turn anyone else to stone.

Step away some 10 feet moving to the side of Brutus and then cast a light spell upon his eyes.

Andronichishche mentally notes confirmation that the name, Marquees, does indeed have significance for the monster. Although, given the apparent disregard for the box, he now believes Marquees is its name ... or was. He also quickly realizes Alordan is in danger of sharing the same fate as Talkhor and Sir Crestbrook. Remembering that the monster called Sister Theresa by a strange name, he decides to take a chance ...

Andron turns to Mina and loudly whispers to her, "Mina, call out to it ... use the name, Marquees!" He hopes his theory is correct that the monster, in its crazed state, may confuse her for his love. Distract it. He stows the tiny box in a shirt pocket and prepares to cast Magic Missile ...

Tlachtga

Tlachtga moves half the distance to the melee, still restraining Cu and drawing her scimitar. She keeps her eyes looking around elsewhere so she isn't caught in its gaze and to keep watch so something else doesn't attack from surprise.

Yes, call to it Mina. Eyes down. If it charges us the others will get to attack it without having to evert their eyes. Call to it. The cleric holds Mina up so that she can put all of her leftover energy into call its name. Eyes down please
