Zellar
To Odos:
"I should like to meet this young warrior. Where can I find him?"
At the War Council:
"It will be imperative that we plan our attack on the orcs to capture their leader and interrogate them or otherwise discover the lair of this dragon. If we simply exterminate them, Burnnkenkrayn will simply find new followers."

"It was a dragon with scales the color of emeralds."

Feargus
Feargus listens silently to the council. Eventually he says, "I can't say as I've ever had the opportunity to kill a dragon...Still though, this is a great danger...and a great reward. They are known to be wily beasts...and this one is certainly older than most. I am willing to destroy this village. If the information we receive in our victory suggests that we can be successful, I am willing to destroy this creature as well."
"Mardan Cy, this has the feeling of a great quest."
"My lord, you have not yet re-established contact with the Scarlet Principality to the south yet, correct? I wonder if my man Goshawk is stranded there. We had heard he was leaving to head north yet, I'm not sure how he would travel north of Alice alone. We will need all of our weapons at our disposal to accomplish this task."

Baron Xelazo
"That is correct. I was hoping to send my daughter south with you, and still intend to do that. If I may suggest, I believe that you have time to pursue other goals. I would say, on the offhand, that it will likely be a week or more before the Shattered Tusk village is aware that the ambushers have been wiped out, and how long will it be before they react to that news? Probably another week or so, would be my guess. We have been questioning the captured orc, and it doesn't sound like they are in regular communication with this "Death on the Wind". Indeed, the captive seems to imply that the dragon dwells some distance to the west beyond their village. How about this: if you have things you must do, plans that must be laid, take care of them now. We will increase our patrols and be on the lookout for danger. If you return to us within, say, a fortnight, I think we may be able to still act and catch the orcs unawares."

Odos gives Zellar directions; Owulf is working in the Keep, in the barracks of the Baron's men, as a cupbearer. He's tall for his age, and whip-thin, with a shock of corn-yellow hair and skin burnt red by the sun. As Zellar approaches he drops the broom he had been using and stands straight up, as if being inspected by a sergeant.beniliusbob wrote:Zellar

"Then I'd like to head south with all due haste and collect Goshawk. This could give Telemachus the time he needs to finish in the library and I could investigate if Alice has any supplies that could be of use against a green dragon. Besides the boy has been on his own for too long. I fear the trouble he'll get into!"

Fifthmonth, Tenthday
The Road South
The adventurers depart, this time southward bound, leaving Telemachus behind immersed in reading. They ride south, passing through terrain they had seen three weeks prior. Already the air is warmer than it had been; the foliage denser and beginning to turn a duller green. They ride without incident, but realize that, at their current pace, they will be camping for the night near the Village of Shadows. They have the choice of either stopping short or riding through, trying to put some distance between the party and the unexplored, abandoned community. Of course, they also have the option of throwing caution to the wind and camping near it, as well.

Before departing...
"You are the one called Owulf? My name is Zellar, of Kimrid. I am a dervish of the Mnencir. Father Odos tells me that you are interested in a life of adventure, and it is my objective to recruit as many opponents of chaos as possible. A great battle is coming in these lands, and all strong arms are needed. Do you believe you have the courage to stand against the beastkin and the other fell creatures of chaos?"

Prior to departure
"Telemachus - It seems I forgot to even take this sword we took from the trolls out of my bag in Kimrid to get it ID'd. Think you can work with the Barony to get that done?"
=======
And later...
"Might I suggest we stop short of that Village of the Damned...until I suppose we clear it, it remains a hazard. I'd prefer not to ride through and get it all riled up before nightfall either."

"I agree we should stop short short of the village and camp, so we can pass it by in the light of the morning sun. I assume we don't intend to clean out the shadows this time, but wait until Telemachus is with us?"

The youth looks nervous but tries to hide it. "I can certainly try, ma'am. My parents taught me in the art of fencing, and I am agile and quick on my feet. I think I could be an asset to your and your companions."

"I will look into identifying this sword while you are on the road."
After spending his eight hours in the Baron's library, the mage takes the sword to the priests and asks about the cost of identifying its dweomer.

Zellar will offer a standard cut of gold and experience, and will offer to fully equip and support Owulf's needs until such a time as he has banked 2,000 gold pieces of his own.thirdkingdom wrote:Owulfbeniliusbob wrote:Zellar
