The Knife

The Knife looks up at Elnaerel. "Of course I was talking to him," he says matter-of-factly. "He's a very smart fellow."

"Well, I wouldn't exactly call it seasickness. But he's very irritable. I mean, think about it: he's made of metal, if he falls overboard, he'll sink. And on top of that, all this salt air makes things rusty. it's really not a safe place to bring a knife at all."
He reaches down and pats the knife's hilt. "I'm sorry".

Then The Knife recalls the next part of Elnaerel's question. He blushes, stammers, and looks at his feet. "Er...Ah...Ah...yes...Well, he did say you smelt bad... sorry! I was trying to tell him that, you know, we are on a ship in the middle of the ocean and fresh water is for drinking only out here. I mean, you can pour a bucket of seawater over yourself. Then he said that must be why I smell like old fish." The Knife looks up at Elnaerel again. "Sorry".

"Anyway, lets try to forget about that. What's your name?"
The gnome extends his hand. "I'm The Knife".

Elnaerel chuckles at The Knife's nervousness when he's saying all that. "My name is Elnaerel. And don't worry, I'm used to wandering in the woods but you always can find the regular lake or pond here and there... Yes, being at sea doesn't allow you to take a bath that often." She smiles and shakes his hand.

He asks Captain Quark: "Should we fillet the fish here on board or should we wait till we get to the coast?"

Drakkar

The Dwarf opens a single half eye from beneath a pall of languidly twirling smoke. He sizes the young Gnome, coughs and spits a thick gob of phlegm over the rail. "I recall ye. For ye were useful, aye.", Drakkar grunts dourly. Pondering for a good moment, he offers finally: "I call the Yeomanry my home. Th' Freehold under the mighty Jotens, west of Keoland, if ye know yer bearings. A fine place... if ye like hard work. Speaking of which, who be dat Maxwell ye spoke of and his silver hammer earlier?"

Sorry Darklin, but its been two days here...

The Open Sea

The Captain smiles at Keyon when he offers to secure the ropes around their massive catch, handing the wet elf an armful of the hemp coils. When he hears the dwarf still complaining from a distance, the stern seaman offers a bit of advice in his direction."Lighten up, Drakkar."

Feanol approaches again to wish her friend good fortune as most of the others slip away from the manual labor. The captain answers Elnaerel while Keyon prepares his hair. "Unless ye have a 10 foot blade on ye lass, I think we will need to wait till we get her ta shore before we start any cutting. Even on firm ground this monster will be difficult to portion."

Keyon swan dives back into the water with his armful of rope to a few coos from the ladies on board. In no time at all, the fit elf has the ropes secured around the fish and is collecting arrows and bolts from its thick hide as long as hes already down there. The sailors secure the carcass to the side of the hull and the captain makes ready to sail the remainder of the way to the island. Just before Keyon is about to climb back on deck, he spots something shining in the deep water directly below the ship. Unable to see the ocean bottom at this depth, he cant tell what the object might be. It is somewhat round in shape, and about the size of standard wagon wheel. It is probably 50 feet or so below the surface of the water.

Keyon

The young elf, perhaps stronger than he is wise, grabs the rope and pauses before his leap, sending Feanol a daring grin before he vanishes into the brine. The job is soon over and a pouch filled with armaments to return to his comrades. But a gleam beneath the water catches his eye and Keyon pauses in his ascent.

"Captain..." He calls slowly, his head tilting as he squints into the gloom. "Know you of a great beast with an eye like a wagon's wheel that shines beneath the water?" Keyon remains perfectly still for several moments while he watches the gleam to detect any hint of movement or change in intensity. If it seems to move or alter in any way, he'll quickly climb aboard.

"For if you do, I think it best that we cut this great fish loose and hope that the beast will eat it rather than us."

Feanol

Still holding her ground amid ships she watches nervously as Keyon mounts the rail. His smile before he dives causes her to blush. She waits watching those at the rail intensely for any sign of trouble. When she hears Keyon's call to the captain, she rushes to the rail, and looks down to see if she can see any danger approaching him.

Jinx stays in the shadows until the mention of something shiny below the water’s surface. She rushes forward and peers over to see if she can see what the tall elf is pointing at. Perhaps she can see more from upon the ship. It could be treasure

The Knife

The Knife raises his eyebrows at the sight of Drakkar running below decks. "You don't often see a dwarf running away from the prospect of gold, do you, Knife?"

"A-ha! I believe you're right. He thinks he can get to it faster by tunneling through the bottom of the boat!"

The Knife chuckles to himself and heads over to the side of the boat to see about getting in on a share of the gold.

The Open Sea

Keyon stares into the darkness of the water below the ship and sees the large circular eye wink at him one time. That is enough to get him moving again as the others make their way to the rail for a closer look. Nobody on board the ship can see any treasure in the water, but Drakkar takes no chances, quickly grabbing up his gear before this damn death trap ship is ripped to pieces.

Captain Quark listens to the words of Keyon and his demeanor changes instantly. He is no longer smiling from ear to ear, his grim expression leading to more shouting of orders for the crew to get the ship moving again. The captain grabs a pair of hand axes and bravely hops over the rail on top of the huge fish, now shouting to Keyon before he can climb back aboard. "If what you saw is what I think it is......GET TO CHOPPING, BOY!!!"

With that, the stern ship's captain begins wildly hacking large chunks from the top of the dead fish secured to his vessel. He kicks the bloody chunks into the sea as the boat slowly starts to pull away from this area, sailing the last few leagues to the island.

Can I get a normal Wisdom check from everyone in your next action posts, please. Thanks!

Feanol

Wisdom Check: [3d6] = 10

The young wizard readies her Magic Missile and keeps a close eye on the giant eye. She is ready to cast if it starts to attack. She also gets as good a grip on the rail as she can. Checking on Keyon as the captain starts to dismember the flathead.

Jinx will ready her bow and nock an arrow, aiming it at the mysterious creature should it try and surface.

Keyon

The young rogue has faced a score of angry husbands and murderous fathers without flinching, but the massive eye blinking once freezes his blood. Fear engulfs Keyon and he climbs rapidly, but a blur of motion sailing over the side catches his attention just as he grabs the rail.

"Damn it, Quark," he swears under his breath. "Now I have to look brave." Stifling a groan, he masks his terror with action and kicks off the side of the ship to leap atop the great fish. Careful to avoid the captain's mighty swings, Keyon draws his sword and frantically hacks away huge chunks of meat, following Quark's lead and kicking them into the sea.

The Knife

The Knife groans. "Something else wants to eat us? How many fish are there in that sea and they can't just happily eat each other!" He strides back over to the rack of belaying pins. "Let's see if we can hit something this time eh, Knife?"

Brandy

Brandy moves to the rail again with her Bow and quiver. Waiting for anything to surface.

Not again. Must be lots of large fish staying in this area. Hope we make the island at this rate I will run out of arrows before we get there.

Elnaerel

Normal Skill Check [3d6] = 13 of 17.

"What are you doing? Start chopping the fish! You have to know whennto fight and when you can't. Trust the captain. He knows what he talks about." Being herself lacking in any kind of slashing weapon or tool, the elf will try to get a hold of any she may find cloae at hand while she says that. Then she gets to work and helps captain Quark.
