I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

[voice chat] Possible Boot Hill one-shot

#1 Post by rredmond »

So I have an offer from Cameron Waggoner, he created a BH 3E campaign.
He has been going back and forth about running a PbP here, I'm still working on him ;) but he's thinking about running a one-shot of something he wrote and asked me to offer to you all if you'd be interested.
TheMightyWagon wrote:The reason I ask is I might have the chance to run a one-shot sometime as GM for Boot Hill if they're interested, and if it's established as a one-shot I can dedicate to and, quite literally, build a day around running said one-shot rather than coming back to the forums over the course of God knows how long to do a whole campaign.

Admittedly, I enjoy writing campaigns more than running them (as I have drafts for both a D&D 5e and Star Wars RPG campaign in the works atm), but it seems like your crew can't wait much longer, and I would hate to see interest in this niche RPG I've come to adore die out.

If any of them are interested, I would be willing to run a one-shot of Boot Hill via voice chat (in whatever app, it honestly doesn't have to be Discord) for a group of 3-5. The campaign (including my usual break schedule, which is normally a 5 minute break every 2 hours and a 20 minute one every 4) will likely run 4-6 hours, but if they would like I could feasibly coalesce parts of the main campaign with the one-shot to make it run longer (again, if that's something they'd like). I'd be happy to help with character creation, as well as explain the rules of the game to any interested party via DM's of whatever platform we end up using (again, I prefer Discord due to my familiarity with it).

Let me know what the group thinks. As it stands, I could run a game as early as next Sunday (1/26) if everyone gets their ducks in a row by then, though it would more likely be at a much later date (like the weekend of the 22nd in February).

Do you still have the link to the campaign I wrote? If so, you could give them a synopsis of each one-shot and see which one they're most interested in (it's been my brief experience that most people tend to go for the Wendigo one).
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

A Boot Hill "one-shot." I see what you did there. ;)

So apparently I linked to the actual module/adventure that he wants to do - I've deleted it. If you saw that link, please do not read the "Side Quests" in it

But the options for the one-shot would be one of those, as he mentioned above, and in summary they are:
Story: Someone, or something, is leaving a trail of corpses in it’s wake: all brutalized in ways unlike anything even the most dangerous of man or animal could feasibly do. The local Algonquin tribe speaks in hushed whispers of a “Windigo”, a beast of myth seemingly capable of such savagery. But surely it’s just a myth?

Story: The town has been experiencing a long period of thunderstorms, and while it was initially a godsend the ongoing downpour is beginning to wear it’s welcome, and the lightning has posed a serious safety risk. At night, some seem to hear the flapping of giant wings accompanying the claps of lightning.

Story: The traveling band, Betty and the Brown Hats, has come to you asking for your help: their band’s lead, Betty, has gone missing! They’re set to perform for the town’s July 4th party, and if they don’t have their lead they’ll have to cancel.

Story: Recently, you and the gang have come across an ancient map detailing the location of a secret Spanish treasure room that may have been untouched since the early 1600’s.

Story: A local scorned engineer laughs maniacally as he pilots his new invention into the town square. Running on a seemingly endless pile of coal, the machine of death, the Goliath, lurches forward, threatening to destroy anything in its path. It’s target: the train station, and the people who run it. Not only are lives threatened, but the local industries will suffer greatly if the mode of transport they rely on for necessary goods is destroyed.

Story: In the course of traveling the desert, you come across a pool of water, a seeming oasis in the midst of this unforgiving land. As you lean in at the water’s edge to cool your hot head, you notice a bit of metal sticking out from the middle of your watery salvation…

Story: Surrounded on all sides by a Rogue Indian Warband that has swept in from Indian Territory, a Wagon Train from out East is pinned down and can’t do anything.

I'll try to get him to work out the details here. I'll be a poor go-between. :D

I would be interested but have 2 issues.

1. I have never used Discord and am not good with tech so that could be an issue. I have used Roll20.
2. I also can't play 1/26 as that is when I am running our monthly FTF game.

Any of those look good to me, the first one would be good one for Nahum, the PC I ran in a Boot Hill Game here. viewtopic.php?f=595&t=7463

I'll amend my statement of interest: I'm not sure I'd be able to make a six-hour voice chat game. It'd all depend on the date, most likely.

I'm interested dependent upon scheduling.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

Hey y'all, Cameron here. If you're interested and feel comfortable with using discord, feel free to join in via this link (it's set to never expire so take your time): https://discord.gg/bvSUMHZ

Otherwise I'd be happy to reply to any specific inquiries about this game in this thread or through DM's.
