Spell Knowledge Check: [1d100] = 9
Andronichishche, after consulting with the "island task force" to delay their return, meets with Darklin the next morning to again swap spells. This time he selects the Charm Person spell, in the event Mr. Brutus in the caves is humanoid and unfriendly to visitors. Interpreting the spell's theory and function were surprisingly quite easy compared to yesterday's effort. However, the Celenese script was still sheer drudgery to read and the overall task completed well past sunset.

Darklin greets Andron at his tent.
Welcome. Glad to see you could make it today. I am really thinking we should put up some signs at the Hi-Lo and see about getting this Mage's Guild idea going. We can use my tent here as the location to inquire. But enough let's get to it. it will be a long day.
Darklin pain stakeingly studies the Identify spell in Andron's book. Making sure to dot every "I" or "Eye" and cross every "T". Wracking his brain for the second day in a row. After some confusion and thought he manages to get the spell memorized.
Intell is a 17 so 75%
[1d100] = 65
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. That was close.

Saracen will settle Down in the morning and pray to the Blinding Light for the renewal of his Light magic. Once complete he will settle on the beach under any shade he can find and begin to whittle and carve and chop the Minotaur horns into small oval shaped plaques.
If any of his companions pass that are injured he will call out to them and offer some healing magic. When he pauses for lunch (some fruit held back from his donation the day before) that afternoon he will cast a Sacred Waters of Pholtus spell on his last empty bottle, bringing his carried bottles of the sacred waters to his maximum of four.
In the afternoon after lunch he will diligently continue his carvings until the sun sets.
As darkness falls over Beachtown he will pack up his carvings and what’s left of the horns, putting the cut plaques he has already made safely into his belt pouch and head over to Randal’s Treehouse.

Before the first rays of sunlight kiss off of the flat ocean, Dexter heads out to sea in one of the two modified boats he helped create. The weather proves kind to the fishermen on this day, with small swells and little wind to fight against at the oars.SirOwen wrote:Dexter Broadleaf
After finishing his supper at the Treehouse, Dexter turns in early. He plans for a dawn trip out on the water.
The pair of boats is well out into the deeper waters by midday, where they begin to fish. It isn’t easy to paddle all that way, and each man at the oars works until near exhaustion before they are ever able to drop a line into the blue sea.
They place their bait on heavy outriggers and try to set them at the correct depth to find the most fish. Barely able to see the land of the small island behind them, they begging trolling, trying all of their usual tricks to lactate and catch fish.
After several hours of trolling, each boat brings in a rather large skipjack tuna. These fish are about 3 feet long and weigh over 20 pounds each, once cleaned. Not exactly a bounty of food, but the fishermen seem excited to be able to successfully ply their trade again.
Happy to have something to show for their hard work, even if it won’t feed the entire town, they start thinking about the long row back to the island.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
After two full days of tedious spell learning and sharing in the less than perfect conditions of Darklins tent, the spell casters appear to have been completely successful with copying each other’s spells.
Their brains are taxed to their limits from the extensive blast of magical formulas running around up there lately.
As usual, Saracen spends much of his time away from the caves all alone, as is the way of the hideous half-orc. He communes with the blinding light often, still thinking about future spells while he whittles away at his minotaur horns. After a great deal of painstaking detail, he is happy with the results of his new ruined inscribed divining plaques.

Hello Miss Marge. I am Darklin Sylvanas, Mage and Warrior of Celene. Freshly transplanted to beachtown.
I am told by the lovely Miss Daisy that you might possibly have some barrels for me? They can be leaking and broken. I have some carpentry skills and can mend them. I need two but will try to fix any that you have. Ill even return any i can fix. I am trying out an invention of using a tarp to collect dew and rain for drinking water. If it works you might try it to save you trips to the river.

Dexter Broadleaf
Dexter tells the fishermen that if they want to head back, that's OK, but not to do it on his account. "Hey, I'm ready to put in the full day. Don't go easy on my account." But no matter what they want to do, Dexter puts in his best effort. "Let me ask you guys something. Now that you have some idea where the fish are, it's mostly a matter of figuring out how deep and when to go after them, right? This is a good start, right?" He wants there to be no doubt that he may know boats, but he doesn't know fishing....yet.

“Pleased to meet you, Darklin. Welcome! And thank you for thinking of the towns needs as well as your own. I like that! I do have a few water casks that we aren’t using because they leak so badly. There are about 6 of them that need repairs. If you want to fix them up for us, you can keep two of them for your own needs. They hold about 5 gallons each. Does that sound agreeable to you good sir?”

The fishermen are so impressed with how well Dexters modifications worked on their boats, they are more than happy to show him as much as he can learn about how they do things.SirOwen wrote:Dexter Broadleaf

Andronichishche, having just completed the day long work of transcribing the second spell from Darklin's spellbook shuffles over to the tent flap of the elf's new abode. He quickly peers outside to ensure nobody is within the vicinity before he closes the flap and turns about to face Darklin. "Mr. Darklin, before I leave you should be aware of an event that occured just a few days ago. It's important however, to keep this information on a need to know basis as it's related to another ... confidential ... investigation. Constable Glansandi is aware of the details."
Andron again turns to peek through the tent flap to ensure they have no uninvited eavesdroppers before continuing. "Captain Quark, as you may know commands a vessel that regularly ships goods and passengers to and from the island. The leader of the pirates is ... or, was ... Captain Bing. On the 11th of this month, Captain Quark witnessed the complete destruction of Bing's ship from a sudden, violent storm. All hands were lost, including Captain Bing, who is missing and we presume dead. The pirates left on the island may as yet be unaware of this."

Ma'am, That sounds like a heck of a deal. I have a few other ideas but i was recently taught that you need to make sure things are going to work before you go blabbing around town about them. Especially in the Tavern. Ill get to work on these as soon as i can. The Constable has tasked me with a job that will take priority but once that is done, ill have your barrels fixed up right. Do you have someone that can help me carry them all. If not ill take two now and return right away for the rest.OGRE MAGE wrote:Marge is a strong willed and strong backed human woman who knows her way around the inner workings of Beachtown better than anyone. Thank you
He follows her to the barrels and loads the quiver of arrows and 2 flasks of oil into 2 of them and pauses for an answer and heads back to his tent after hoisting them on his shoulders.

Marge smirks when asked to find help, sizing the elf up and down as she answers.
“I think I could carry as much as you can, let’s find out.”
The big strong woman hoists two casks in the same manner as Darklin.
“I’m always willing to lend a strong hand, or back. And I must say that it pleases me to hear that you have already learned a good lesson to remember around here. Keep learning as you go, and you will surly prosper.”

Though Dexter does not, one of the other men spots the anomaly floating upon some flotsam on the surface of the waves several hundred yards away.
“Is that a.......what is that? Looks like a man! Should we row out further and take a closer look?”

On the way back to Darklin's tent him and Marge make small talk.
So Miss Marge have you been here a long time? Do you know of anyone that may have been here longer and may have explored some of this Island? Maybe a Wizard? I am looking for an ancient stone structure, that may be in the center of the island somewhere.

The big man can make out land in the distance. He was paddling as best her could with his hands from atop his crude and hardly seaworthy raft of flotsam. He chanced standing up on his knees and waving his arms and shouting occasionally before going back to rowing as the tide began carrying him toward the island.
HEY! HEY! OVER HERE!

“Well, you certainly don’t look 148.”
“Actually, I was one of the very first people here. Came in on the first transport over and have been here ever since. There aren’t many of us left from that maiden voyage.”
“Here are a few things I have heard, though I can’t rightly say whether they be fact er fiction.”
“Nobody has been to the center of the island that I know of, but folks say that the islands elevation clearly rises towards its center. The thick vegetation growing everywhere makes it difficult to determine what things are far off in the distance.”
“I have heard that a ring of strange clear stone structures exists, but have never seen one of them myself.”
“Almost everyone who returns from the natives camp at the waterfall tells me that there is far better soil and growing conditions over in that area.”
“There have been sightings of a small grey whispy wizard type who likes to sing or play music to draw people to him. He has been seen in a few different places out in the bush.”
“An old wizard named Harold came over on one of the first ships. He wandered far into the jungle alone, they say, but I haven’t seen him around here in a long time now and fear the worst for him.”
The large woman rubs her chin, trying to remember anything else.
“I have met a few other wizards since then. They spoke of big aspirations, hoping to start up a spell casters guild here, of all things. I haven’t seen any of them in a few days now either, so their fate remains unknown as of yet.”

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Dexter and his fishing crew row their 2 boats even further away from the shore of the big island, putting lives at risk chasing what might only be a mirage upon the water.
Then, suddenly, that mirage kneels up and waves its arms at the boats.
After rowing through even larger swells in the deep sea, they eventually reach what appears to be a rugged though thoroughly waterlogged human male floating on what might be the remains of a shipwreck. The man is somehow dressed in full gear and armor, clinging onto all that remains of his worldly possessions in spite of the unrelenting motions of the deep seas.
